@tlekbek Republicans believe this stuff because they don't read. Every real historian knows that the Socialist wing of the Nazi party had been defeated by the middle of 1934. In Hitler's view National Socialism meant everyone viewing themselves as a part of the national team and thus this was "socialism", he didn't mean equal distribution of the wealth. Hitler's idea of socialism had nothing to do with economics. The wages of the working class dropped, profits for business owners rose.

We're a type of representative democracy (17th amendment made this more true) with a constitution to limit government power over its people. If someone says we're a type of republic then they're right, and if someone says we're a type of democracy then they're also right, we're just not a pure democracy. Is it american to compare something with hitler or marxism, perhaps its because the americans need to make a choice just between two partys? Would be easier to call them good and evil than democrates and republicans. Many european countrys have a SOCIAL democracy, especially germany and its one of the best democracies world wide. @tlekbek Republicans believe this stuff because they don't read. Every real historian knows that the Socialist wing of the Nazi party had been defeated by the middle of 1934. In Hitler's view National Socialism meant everyone viewing themselves as a part of the national team and thus this was "socialism", he didn't mean equal distribution of the wealth. Hitler's idea of socialism had nothing to do with economics. The wages of the working class dropped, profits for business owners rose.

1927 US Supreme Court case known as Buck v Bell made legal in the United States the genetic modification of humans known as "eugenics", yet nobody seems to remember that. The last state to put that in practice was Virginia who voluntarily stopped using forced sterilization in 1979.
It should be noted, the US was using eugenics, with government backing, for 6 years before Adolf and his party came to power in Germany...

We're a type of representative democracy (17th amendment made this more true) with a constitution to limit government power over its people. If someone says we're a type of republic then they're right, and if someone says we're a type of democracy then they're also right, we're just not a pure democracy. This is more complex, and not just black and white.

Meritocracy is a good goal, which would never happen under Socialism.
Economy? Yes I have studied it. I have read a lot of history and Sociology. Sociology was one of my dual majors in college.(The other was Zoology. Minor was math). I've been around the block a time or two. I grew up during the Cold War and saw the effects of Soviet style of suppressing freedom.

Beck likes to make a lot of associations so weak minded people believe him. Hitler was a vegetarian, does that mean vegetarian are inherently evil? Only an idiot would believe that, and pretty much only idiots believe Beck.

@shalcall Where is he wrong? Fascism is nothing more than big goverment and big corporations working together. There are plenty of examples of that in today's society. Not to mention the fact that socialists, just like fascists, require big goverment in order to push their "social programs" through (i.e. Hayek). It has nothing at all to do with a name.
As for vegetarians. They are evil. That's why I eat cows.

@DarthKap In case you didn't learn it in school, fascism is a jingoist authoritarian structure of government. This government has never come close to fascism. Not once, not even under GW Bush, who may have come the closest (and was still miles from true fascism).
Socialism is on the opposite end of that political spectrum. Just because they both may require "large" governments does not make them the same. A monarchy needs only a small gov't. Do you think that's better than what we have?

@shalcall Oh it hasn't come close to a fascist goverment. Are you totally sure about that? Look at what Bush did to the Consitution (and what Obama continues to do). The so-called healthcare "reform" is nothing more that the federal goverment working with large corporate insurance to make everyone pay for health insurance. If fact, if you don't, you ethier get fined or send to jail.
After all within the bill we hired additional IRS agents.

@DarthKap oh, so you agree that we should have a single payer system? Well it's nice to meet another progressive. By the way, despite the new health care bill not being perfect, it does not criminalize non-participation. Everyone's taxes are going up. if you purchase health insurance you get a tax break. If you don't, well that's fine.
Now if you don't pay your taxes, that's an entirely different story.

@shalcall Single payer system? Ah great more big goverment monopoly that I get to pay for it (or have everyone else pay for me). Ironically for what I pay for alone in the income tax I could easily afford to pay for my own medical costs. I could even save that money or invest it in the economy. It would be even more difficult for the federal goverment to wage meaningless wars, infringe on our freedoms, or waste money on bridges to nowhere.

@shalcall I like the idea of single payer system. The new health care bill is actually an insurance reform bill which pumped money into their corporations to add millions of new customers who will be forced to buy from the private sector.The system has not changed.Loopholes for denying pre-existing conditions is still going on.Insurance groups are now saying the bill only requires they don't drop coverage for pre existing conditions for customers they already have, NOT new customers they take on

@shalcall And raising everyones taxes by 1-2% and then saying "if you get insurance, we'll lower your taxes" is still a fine or tax increase for those who are not getting it.....its just a way around to say "no, were not taxing or fining you, were just raising everyone's taxes and those who get insurance will go back down where they were".
I don't really mind 33% taxes...heck, raise it 37% or 40% as long as we have a new healthcare system that doesn't make me go bankrupt
