Bullshit. If this were true, the PS3 would get left behind badly in technolgical advancments. Can you imagine the sega dreamcast lasting ten years? Sure, Sony might improve the PS3 greatly, but if there were to do that for 10 years, by the end of it's life cycle, it would be unrecognizeable from the 1st gen PS3. Compare the xepria to the 1st gen PSP, it what Sony say is true, then this life cycle will change the PS3 radically, much like the 1ST gen PSP and the Xepriria.
The reason PS4 is unlikely is that there isn't much "new" to bring to the table. Not in the way DVD playback and network connectivity did for PS2 or Blu-Ray, Media playback and wireless / internet connectivity and integration did for PS3.

this generation of consoles is slowing down the whole market of gaming...... Im playing batman arkham city on my PC at DX11 maxed out and the graphics are astonishing. meanwhile the consoles can support only 256mb on DX9 and thats really sad !!
@Saaduk92 i think people are forgetting the ps2 continued to live on quite successfully after the ps3's release, so a ps4 releasing and the s3 continuing for a while longer seems quite likely

if you want a new console so bad just ditch them all together and get a PC. you can update them any time, your old games will always be backward compatible and the control and graphics are much better.

@karindi1 Well not really, just look at Battlefield 3, there are major difference between the PC client and the console clients and thats a new engine from ground up. The only one thats suffering from lazy developers are PC gamers like me (atm) because we just get a poor port from the console sometimes which gives us poor quality games compaired what they could be.
PS3's processor is incompatible with it's VGA, which limits it's capacities to what we see now, in games like Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3.
If you want to see an actual difference in graphics, you should definitely want there to be a new generation of consoles. I mean, I'm only counting consoles, cause even though a good PC is already ready for the next generation, game developers won't make those, exactly because of the outdated console specs.

I think it's waaaay too soon for Microsoft and Sony to be bringing out new home consoles. Nintendo are bringing out the Wii U, which is fair enough, because the original Wii didn't have HD graphics, and now that the whole motion controller gimmick has worn off, they don't really have a choice, otherwise they'll lose money...wii games in general aren't selling well. I say wait a couple more years, I'm more than content with the consoles available now...

If the Wii had HD graphics to begin with I don't think Nintendo would have had to announce the Wii U either, and miss out on massive franchises like Assassins creed, Batman, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, etc. could have stopped a new console war and saved us all some money for a few years.

Impossible man.
PS3's processor is incompatible with it's VGA, which limits it's capacities to what we see now, in games like Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3.
If you want to see an actual difference in graphics, you should definitely want there to be a new generation of consoles. I mean, I'm only counting consoles, cause even though a good PC is already ready for the next generation, game developers won't make those, exactly because of the outdated console specs.

I think it's waaaay too soon for Microsoft and Sony to be bringing out new home consoles. Nintendo are bringing out the Wii U, which is fair enough, because the original Wii didn't have HD graphics, and now that the whole motion controller gimmick has worn off, they don't really have a choice, otherwise they'll lose money...wii games in general aren't selling well. I say wait a couple more years, I'm more than content with the consoles available now...

@advers1078 Exactly, however, I don't think the wii was idiotic at all, it was definitely revolutionary hence why it sold so well when it first came out, and inspired both the kinnect and move. If the Wii had HD graphics to begin with I don't think Nintendo would have had to announce the Wii U either, and miss out on massive franchises like Assassins creed, Batman, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, etc. could have stopped a new console war and saved us all some money for a few years.

@HIvanH91 again I agree, the wii was definitely revolutionary, I meant idiocy in the sense that running around your room to play a game just wasn't going to last forever as an idea, but if Nintendo did include HD graphics and tapped into the Playstation and Xbox market, the hardcore gamers market, then it may well have taken over like the ps2 did in its day leaving only the fan boys to their respective consoles, that's a missed opportunity really.
