Mine has this problem, it wakes me up at night and it's annoying as hell. I'm ready to take it back to the Apple Store and beat someone to death with it.
i never had this problem at all with my MBP from April 2006... but i did have issues like one fan did not at all spin, of course got that fixed Still currently being used today lol even tho next month i am planning on building my own Quad Core AMD PC...

MAC zealots, time to FACE REALITY!! Apple is giving you crap Quality control (china) while marketing it with glossy nice appearance, high price, overselling the quality.
THIS sound pissed me off so much that I returned the Laptop right away even though they didn't want to accept it! I like the MacBook Pro's Software and features but I guess lately Apple is using shitty material inside while they make the outside look good.
If you are ok with microsoft Windows, I recommend Lenovo T series or W series
this is what I'd like to know.. how did you fix it??
if someone has an idea.. feel free to answer.. but if it's just to say "go back to your old pc" don't even bother coz.. I won't .. hehe you're just jealous..
My mbp emitted this sound for about a year and i got the fan replaced 3 times and the hardisk 5 times and now i got the entire unit replaced. guess they couldn't figure out the problem.
MBP's are notorious for overheating because of the size of the case and the processing power. Most laptops that have full desktop processors are thicker allowing for better airflow.
So the fans die quicker from overuse.
Ounce its fixed just invest in a $10-$20 cooling pad and it will keep it from overheating and overusing the fans.
I still haven't had this problem, i bought the cooling pad when i got the MB.
i had this exact same problem. i brought my macbook in twice and the fan still failed. they just replaced it again and it seems to be working fine...for now
try shutting your computer down hold the apple key, the option key,R and P.....holding them all down press the power button until you hear the start up apple sound 3 times then let it go....maybe it will help
I had this as well. The MBP is in for repairs now.
Be sure to notify of this failure if you also have a failing logic board. They switched my logic board but transfered the fans (apparantly, new logic boards ship without fans unless specified).
I have to say that's pretty funny. They really need to get new fans. I have a 17" Powerbook, and when the fan comes on it's noticeable, but at least it has a bearable noise, unlike whatever is in you MBP :)
nice drop

Here are some instructions for fixing this. It takes a while to get the mbpro apart to clean the fans, but it's not that difficult.

Wow. I have a late 2010 macbook pro and my fan makes the same noise sometimes.
It will randomly start doing that, and other times it is quieter.
I am going to take it to the Apple store.

You can replace the bootloader on any windows laptop and run MacOS on it. The install disc for MacOS is only $30.
poiesis1111 2 years ago
there's a video on youtube showing how to replace the fan, just do a search for Macbook Pro fan replace.

why don't you send it to tech support and let them fix it? should be cheaper than a new laptop...

that sounds like the bearings on the fan are gone... or it might be full of dust. Get some compressed air and blow it out through the vents

what was the fix? and is this something you can do on your own, or must the Apple Techie handle this?
