Why do they have to be putten down it breaks my heart :( i can take them all !!! In poland i think in warsaw there is a shelter that dont put dogs to sleep ever. ... They said they take care of them until someone adopts .. Even if they get old they dont put them down to sleep

In all honesty I think the real crooks are the breeders who are out there making money off pure breds and the people who adopt from them that's why shelter animals are dying crooked breeders and the people who buy them. Everytime you buy off a breeder one more of these shelter animals wil die,

i may not be from CA but there are 2 sides to every story. there needs to be a compromise somewhere between both parties not an i'm right & you're wrong mentality. if we are truly on the animals side then lets show it. if the bill that increases vet services passes just think of how many more will end up in shelters to be killed cause greedy people couldnt figure another way to balance the budget. I am active in dog rescue. My puppy was pulled from the shelter the day she was to be euthanized. (she's an adult dog, no one wants the adults) She was shy and sick and super thin. Now she's a big, happy girl and I can't imagine life without her. People who let their animals breed unwantonly don't love their animals. It's like letting every teen have babies every 10 months (or teen boys getting as many girls pregnant as possible) Who would take care of those babies?
Part 2: Bottom line....the fault lies with the person who took that animal into their home as a pet and then threw it away. Breeders would not breed so much if the demand was not so high. Back yard breeders would not allow their females to get pregnant if they were fined when they brought in the pups because they could not find homes for them. Funny how the majority of cats and dogs in shelters are MUTTS!

Educate people on dogs and behavior, so they know what dog is for them. The biggest problem is that it's not a pet population, but rather unwanted pets being abandoned. Second, from what I've seen, this won't stop backyard breeders, but more or less have them flee underground

Doesn't matter where it was shot. It's a universal problem. I shoot with Doctor Henderson frequently. He spoke at the City Council meeting, pushing for mandatory spay/neuter, which passed that day. He is probably the most outspoken person I know on the subject. He said to me that no animals should be bred until every animal at the shelter has a home. He believes in responsible pet ownership. The video is just as applicable now as it was TWO years ago when I shot his interview.
Think about this If the human Race was for some reason had only 20 to 30% left that could reproduce and out of that only a smaller part could turn out healthy children.. would that be bad? again its not the Owned pets that are the problem do the math.

I saw some stupid couple yesterday gave their wonderful, sweet 10 year old healthy female corgie mix to the shelter because the stupid owner (woman) was going to have a baby! My parents had four children and they never gave away an animal because a kid arrived! A pet was a part of our family until the very end.
A dog who has been with the family her entire life than the woman gets pregnant and all bets are off for the dog?

The pervasive "throw-away mentality of owners causing them to avoid their responsibility to find the next family for their pet. Dumping their pets at the shelter, giving some flimsy excuse, going home to dinner....while someone else grooms, feeds, cleans up after, makes Public Service Announcements, transports the pet to a adoption site on some business front, holds them in their arms when they are confused, finally kills that pet to make room for others dumped.

Where in AB1634 do you see it educates owners to the value of their animals . If owners valued their animals they would never Dump them at the shelter.
I admire the people in this video who care for shelter animals, do it with heart and have the grit to return day after day. The public must spay and neuter, breeders must be curtailed, and legislators must act to force change.

You don't get it. How is it reprehensible? Far too many animals are bred or accidentally produce litters that shouldn't. Every mixed breed animal should be sterilized! And the majority of purebred pets aren't of breeding quality. look at how they are plagued with genetic issues. Spay and neuter is obviously the answer.
Even pure bred dogs that are "breeding quality" in some breeds are NOT worth breeding. Eg: most pugs, bulldogs & more. These breeds are going to the gutter with the extremes people are breeding them to. It's not that any breed mix or not is "plagued with genetic issues" it's the breeders breeding dogs (pure breed or not) with BAD genetics and without health testing to rule it out. I'm for Ethical breeding not breeding just because they have a dog and it's cute (*KC reg or not) *rolls eyes*
