As a Rover 75 2.5 ltr coneusseur owner i cn say they are really great cars and have always been fantastic value for money and great car to drive.
As the Roewe 750,here was a great chance to enhance the design even further, which was missed?
The Roewe is just a 75 on the outside a straight copy (a design which is now 13 yrs old?) and on the inside it has lost the charm it posessed with al lthe plastic and no wood??
I own a Rover 75 Tourer CDTi SE Connoissuer 131bhp. It is definately the best car I have ever owned. I have had two BMW 3 series, a Jaguar X Type and an Audi A4 estate. The Rover feels more solid, never rattles offers amazing comfort and the fuel consumption coming from the BMW engine which is superb. It has electric everything and nothing has ever gone wrong in the 4 years I have owned it. Future classic....wait and see!
It seems everyone wanted to celebrate the Britishness, build quality and image of this car except the British themselves. Bloody shame BMW bought Rover just to destroy the brand after they realised the 75 was pulling sales away from series 3's and 5's. Maybe they will sell Roewe's in the UK one day!
The Hair Blair bunch did not do anything to help British industry. Other makes lost were Peugeot at Ryton, Ford in Britain (trucks and cars), ERF now built by Germans, Foden, TVR, Vauxhall at Luton, Alvis (as in military hardware), Seddon Atkinson killed off in Spain and Scammell. The list goes on… And many more were killed off in the '70's. AEC, Albion, Riley, Wolseley, Hillman, Humber, Singer, Sunbeam, Commer, Karier etc. etc. under old Labour!
Hmm well i own a MG ZT-T ,and to be honest it is a fantastic car for the money, it also has the BMW diesel engine and is great on fuel .
As for British built cars , well i have to say i love them "BUT" and its a big but , and that is i cant help thinking that the british goverment (maggie thatcher) could have done more to save it .
Same old story we sold everything british , Now we will pay for it . WHO SAID PRIVATIZATION WAS CHEAPER ?????????
@OliBN1 they still turn my head today. Beautiful cars when will we learn. How comes Italy can still produce FIATs, and France Renaults. When you think that not that long ago Skodas were considered a joke along SEATs (lazy boy FIATs) all turned round by VAG. All we have now is a so called MG.
@darthlleyr Yes, you're right! After MG-Rover collapse, SAIC bought MG and Ford bought Rover. When Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover, Rover was also sold to TATA.
Unfortunately, Rover is now a "sleeping brand" but MG is now being produced and sold in China and UK
It makes me laugh...the ones who call Rover cars crap are the ones who've never owned one! Hard to believe but Rover cars weren't crap. I've owned several 800s and they were the best in their class. Before knocking the product...drive it! Never again will you drive Eurotrash.
@TheRockcottage I've actually owned quite a few. They are great cars while they work but there's always some kind of issue. Take my 827. Great car but constantly had issues with the buttons on the dash. My 75 killed an engine within two years and rover tried to dodge out of the warranty before paying up. My 820 turbo broke a gearbox twice in two years then overheated in traffic. Since moving to BMWs I've had one problem (a window clip) in 10 years.
Good video collation, I have a 1970 Rover P5B Saloon and love the old girl and am now looking at a Rover 75 as a general car. Such a shame the Rover has been taken overseas, it had such a lovely history in Britain and China produces good look alikes but poor quality in production. The Rover has been lost to the rest of the world from now. Ah, memories...lol
at least the chinese will probably build them better now that they own the rights to everything that was once rover , pity really ...... yet another english car firm that has gone tits up !! Par for the course really I suppose .
The Rover 75 could not have been made to a better standard, it was better than all of the opposition, and sold in greater numbers than the BMW 5 series in Germany.
really ???? ....... I guess thats why they were always highly regarded on top gear and why perhaps they were so profitable as a car manufacturer !! Especially with their ancient honda based clones from the rest of the rover range !! The small rebadged indian Tata built metro was an exceptionally good car as well wasn't it ? If you can't tell , I am being highly sarcastic !! BMW sold the company back to the private investors of rover for 1 pound just to be rid of it !! Enough said !!!!
" Actually it was 10 pounds " , not 1 pound !!! ....... Gee , you really argued a postive contermeasure there didn't you ! Well , you just keep driving around in your 75 then mate .... but if I were you I would buy all the spare parts for the car in circulation as you're going to need them ... and even more so now that Rover doesn't exist ! I doubt the chinese will care about exporting parts for dying rover models in the UK !!
well it just proves that the information that I give is correct. By the way, are you one of those individuals that believes that if a company makes some mistakes, then it can never do anything right? Because the Rover 75 does get a bad press you are correct there, but why? Is it because the car is bad? No actually the car is excellent, it is just the history of certain decisions that were poor by Rover that tarnishes the 75's image. Meanwhile us 75 owners have great cars, at great value.
you may well have a good car in the 75 , it would be the only rover ever made that was half way decent ! And all courtesy of .... you guessed it : BMW !! Whom designed and engineered the car to be unlike all rovers before it .... DECENT !!!
The fact is that the only input from BMW, was the Diesel engine, the rest of the 75 was in fact designed by Rover. The only reason that BMW sold the 75, back to Britain was because it was a threat to their 5 series BMW, which sold in smaller numbers in Germany than the 75 (FACT). Also if you look back in history to the 50's, 60's and early 70's, the Rovers of the time (P5, P6 etc) were second only to Rolls Royce and Bentley. And they were VERY much the mark of a discerning purchaser.
.... heh heh .... sorry , trying not to piss myself laughing reading your sad little rant there , yes , of course ... Rover miraculaucly came up with the whole design and engineering for the 75 by themselves whilst under BMW ownership when all previous attempts at car creation were rebadged Honda models which were somehow worse than the original donated Honda architecture whilst Honda had a decent shareholding of Rover at the time !! Yes , the way you explain it seems quite rational !! he heh
Don't believe everything that you hear on top gear!!!! They are just the opinions of 3 men. By the way have you ever been in a Porsche? Absolute CRAP they are, there is no room in them, the seats are uncomfortable, they cannot hold much shopping in the rear, and they are soo fast that it is difficult to drive one without getting speeding tickets. You see, there are bad issues with every car ever made.
I notice that there are no bad Australian cars. Because there are NO Australian cars.Ford = US
oooohhh , quite the car connoisseur aren't we !!! Yes there are australian cars mr.uninformed , go and look up ford falcon or holden commodore on wikapedia ! Or better yet ... drive past your local vauxhall dealership and you will see the VXR8 or the HSV Maloo in the window , both are holden's . Both are certainly better than the rover 75 clone MG version .... look up the review between both of them on youtube spotswood old chap ..... Geeza !!!
First of all Mr Big mouthed Australian, as I stated in my previous message, FORD are American, and NOT Australian. Then you mention the Vauxhall dealership, that is very interesting my old cocksparrer, due to the fact that Vauxhall are owned lock stock and barrel by GM of... you guessed it America.
You should realise that just because cars are assembled in Australia, it does NOT make them AUSTRALIAN. They are actualy from the country that owns the company. TATA own Jaguar so INDIAN now.
mini - german , does england own anything anymore ?? Big mouthed australian .... well , I 'd prefer to be that than to have a mouth full of " bad geeza teeth " which you are no doubt in possesion of !! Holden manufactures engines for many car companies and all right here in australia , they power most of the SAAB's and some Alfa Romeo's which you may know of . In fact , Holden is one of the biggest engine builders in the car world . Search that one up " me old mukka "
Bad geeza teeth? How bizarre, as you do not even know me, I will put that down to your low class Australian (criminal) upbringing. Anyway i see that as you now realise that there is no such thing as an Australian car company, you have to mention Holden as an engine manufacturer. Sad really, I mean how one can be proved wrong, but yet try to get out on top in the argument by mentioning an engine manufacturer. As usual the Great Briton prevails.
ha ha .... you are definately an " arseclown " aren't you ! Oh Britania , britania rules the waves .... heh heh .... apparently there is no such thing as an english car company . You must be so upper class .... you know .. seeing as you own a rover 75 and everything !!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA
You are english ....... everyone has their faults ! You appear to manage everyday with your disability ...... so if I misspell a word here and there I will live with that .
So you see it is you who happen to be uninformed. A car can be made for the Australian market by FORD, for example the FALCON, but it IS an American car. And yes you are right on one point. I am a car connoisseur, thank you very much.
Please do more research before posting your badly researched DRIVEL.
ha ha ha ... ooohh , wound you up did I " me old china " The falcon and commodore are made , designed , engineered and catered for the australian market . They are the only cars from their parent companies that are so , in fact geeza the commodore has proven a success in export when it has not really been catered for the export market . GM owns holden , Ford is ... well ford , we all are fully aware of that !! Yes , rolls royce are german , bentley-german ,TVR-russian , aston martin-kuwait
So you see I was right all along, as my argument was nothing to do with wether or not the UK still had any car companies. My argument was that Australia doesn't have any, and you have confirmed that.
That makes the UK and Australia equal in that respect as the Falcon and the Commodore are NOT Australian.
you are definately going around in circles with your argument , Holden is an australian car company . GM may own them now but they are still kept separate financially , they were one of the few GM outpost companies that weren't going to be sold when GM filed for bankrupcy as they were deemed to be beneficial for the GM recovery .
They may be based in Australia, and their finances may well be kept seperate, but they are no longer Australian. Just like jaguars are still made in Coventry in England, but the parent company is TATA, so now they are INDIAN,
it appears that you seem to be the one whom finds it so difficult to realise that the rover 75 model , whilst it broke the english car stereotype of " not being terribly reliable " does not make it a car in the same class as BMW or Mercedes !! That's the crust of the argument " old chap "
It is easy to call someone a twat when you are miles away. If you were stood in front of me you would not dare say it, and if you did then it would be the last thing that you ever did. And that is a promise!!!!!
ooooohhhh , big scary english man with bad geeza teeth threatening me over the internet ..... I am so scared !! Stop your stereotypical whinging you dirty pom !! Your car is shit , everyone in the motoring world knows it , suck it up and piss off to the pub to drown your sorrows !
Say what you want, no one listens to an insignificant Aussie any way. Australia is not a major world player. On the other hand, when Britain speaks everyone takes notice due to the fact that we speak with reason and knowledge to back us up.
By the way if I did go to one of our wonderful pulic houses for a beer or two, at least that is what I would get, real beer.
They say that drinking in Australia is like making love in a canoe. It is fucking close to water. Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!
" When Britain speaks , everyone takes notice " ..... ha ha ha ha ha ha ...ooooohhhh ... stop it ... I didn't realise you were a comedian too !! aahhh , ha ...... maybe everyone gives you your 5 minutes of fame to speak ... right after you've asked for permission to speak from your boss , you know ... " The Americans " !!!! On the beer front , well .... we don't really care for room temperature ales !!!!!! ( you should try making love with an actual person rather than your hand geeza ! )
Our beer has taste. Aussie beer and US beer have no taste because it is far too cold. Oh and America listens to the UK, because the Yanks have the power with their enormous military, but we have the brains and the worlds finest spy network.
Aussie land is just full of Britains reject criminals.
your beer has taste ?? Yeah , similar to warm piss !! You obviously enjoy the taste !! Nobody listens to britain or gordon brown .... and I think the best ones left england and you are left with the dregs !!
@likeaaaglove A great many people here in UK loathe Gordon Brown . He and his government are closet Marxists and they are trashing the UK. They sold off Rover / MG to the Chinese. Now bankrupting us paying out borrowed money to benefits claimants. The best ones WILL LEAVE England if Gordon Brown wins the 2010 election and finally turns UK into a totalitarian Marxist state ......God help us if that happens !!!
so you want the torys in who will just fuck up the country even more in 4 years than labour have in 12 dont you remeber what the torys did yhry sold of all public services which is why so much stuff is fucked up and we still have to subsidise it
@spliffthedog I see your vocabulary includes the F word and your spelling is atrocious. Doesn't say much for all those years of education under Marxist Labour.
Labour could have used the MG/ Rover marque to develop class-leading electric technology for our motor industry. Instead they allowed it to go as it represents too much that is traditional and good about UK. The Rover 75 is a wonderful car and future classic and appeals to the discerning. 'Nuff said !
@alernest Your choice of language is definitely the hallmark of one of Marxist Labour's centres of learning excellence. Perhaps Charlie Whelan (UNITE ) was one of your tutors. (smile ) Or even Jonathan Ross ? MG/ Rover , to get back to the subject , should have been saved by Labour and the marque used for developing electric car technology . Could have been a world and class ( oops , sorry ) leader. Think on .
I mean, it is rather simple: if one is an ignorant grease monkey, if one is a bit unconfortable with issues that exceed one's intellectual capacity of comprehension (politics, ethics, philosophy...) one is usually prudent, refrains from acting in a way that may give that fact away and tries to live otherwise happily...
... not you.
May I kidnly ask, what is your IQ? I mean, really, what is it? What PhD do you hold? Most certainly philosophy, right? Hence the "brave" comments...
oh , I thought you were just arguing because you were a pathetic englishman with bad hygiene skills ! You know , the whole english and their dislike of bathing etc...
@spotswood4444 I agree entirely !! What are these detractors of Rover on about ? They've probably never opened the door of a Rover 75 , let alone driven one. So much brainwashing and ' anti-patriotism' out there.....it's quite staggering !!
@AhmadAmor Buying a more reliable, better built, faster, cheaper car isn't anti patriotism - it's common sense. The 75 should have done well but look at what had gone before it. With that hanging over it's head it was already behind before it started.
rover would still be in buissness if a the managers werent assholes and b the british public brought rovers the germenas brought bmws and vws and audi merc and the french brought french cars and same with the italians we didnt so now we dont have a mass car industry that is actually english powerd and made and owned
@mikiowned I totally agree. Tell you what else... Topgear has a LOT to answer for, they took every opportunity to take the piss but squeeled like girls when they took one around the track.
rover out of business ?, I don't think they made cars did they ?, besides who in the crowded UK goes 4 wheeling all the time ?, I hear the new Jaguars use BMW motors.
@mikiowned Yep...nail on the head. Unpatriotic British drivers killed MG/Rover. Serves them right that they now have to ride around in inferior cars. Many car buyers didn't even test drive Rover cars in order to compare them to the opposition. They don't know what they were missing. The 75 is one of the best cars ever made.
@TheRockcottage Whilst I agree that the 75 was a nice car, you have to be unbelievably naive to blame the British public for being "unpatriotic" as the cause of Rover's downfall. The whole reason the public stopped buying British was because, with a few honourable exceptions like the 75, the cars were utterly crap and badly made crap at that.
The UK car industry collapsed because the products weren't good enough and due to poor management, it's as simple as that.
@mikiowned Guess what - nobody bought them because they were built like shit. You can point at managers all you like but the fact is BMW owned/managed them for years and couldn't get the quality up enough - even after giving them engines/etc.
The 75 was a great car but it was against better cars so people got the others. If the lazy fukkers in the factory had built them properly (not the 75) in the first place the 75 wouldn't have been born to a tardy image and we would still have rover.
@GingerPhilG The 2.0 diesels and the V8's in the range rovers. There may be others too but I'm not sure. The engines weren't the only things either. Quite a few bits made it across. The problem was how it was all put together. Look at the Honda/Rover link up. Rover built Honda designed engines but without the same level of quality control. That's why the Honda's don't break all the time.
It was terrible to watch Rover messing up time after time even when offered a perfect oppourtunity.
@mikiowned all because of the management they started to play with supercars meanwhile they needed a sucessor for the 25/45 series to make money with it.
Rovers proud history?!!! I take it you have never driven an allegro, princess, TR7, Maxi, Metro, Maestro, Montego, Ital, Marina, SDI, P6, 100,25,75....all total shitbuckets, and thats on the rare occasions they started. Amongst the worst cars humanity has produced. The english flushed away far more viable industries employing far more people than Rover ever did...Like Aerospace and ship building to name just two...
Stop showing your ignorance. Hardly any of those cars was a Rover. The ones that were, like the P6 and 100 were fantastic cars, used by Royalty and Prime Ministers - even over Jags and Rollers. The latest 75 (there was one in the 1950's too) is also a fabulous car. I suggest you learn something about the British auto industry before you start making such stupid statements. Dont get MGRover confused with the bad old days of British Leyland or the "Honda-Rovers"
Sorry I am ignorant...After 27 years in the Industry (8 of which spent at Longbridge, 4 at jag) I know nothing. If Royalty and Prime Ministers drove them, they must be good. Utter bollocks. The "latest" 75 was so good no one bought them. And those that were sold, made a loss. ROVER WENT OUT OF BUSINESS BECAUSE THE CARS WERE SHIT IDIOT. THINK BEFORE YOU TALK RUBBISH.
I guess that says it all. 27 years. That puts you back in the 80's, when even a Jaguar fell apart due to extremely poor workmanship. So you were one of the those people who produced the shit then! Member of the communist party too then are you? I too have spent 20+ years in the industry - but we obviously see things from a very different direction, so I'll leave it there.
Worked on 75 and S-type too. I am far from a communist, i believe in competitive markets, which is were the Japanese and Germans still sell quality product people want to buy. What destroyed our motorbike and car industry was people like yourself not accepting British product was shit. Jaguar? Quality? Compare the new XF's shut lines with an S-class or A8...yes, we will leave it there. Argue all you like, JLR are in the shit and Rover has gone. VW and Toyota are doing fine.
Your right, its only the British way to flog off or let "British industry" go against the wall.....One question, if foreign companies can make a British company work, why can't the british??
I agree, I do not understand how in this day and age the British got it so wrong, go aganist the grain, making bad mgmt decisions. The 75 is such a beautiful car. Best of luck, i would love to see the Roewe in the States, its a good looking car.
Your right, its only the British way to flog off or let "British industry" go against the wall.....One question, if foreign companies can make a British company work, why can't the british??
you can't say that, Rowoe is not typical chinese copies. They wanted to buy the Rover name but Ford/BMW denied. So they had to go Roewe. Apart from that, every bit in the car is designed by ex-MG engineers. So although it's chinese, this car is very british (and very gd quality)and not that chinese piece of shit like others. BYD can go fuck themselves, copier of BMW...
As a mechanic of 2o years i feel qualified to air my views on these cars. They where very unreliable. The K series engine had major cylinder head/gasket problems. The turbos where made out of chocolate. the american v8 engine was lame and liked to put conrods thru engine block. The door panelswould fall off as would all interior trim. Electrics not as bad as Rover 25 and 45. Worst of all in my opinion MGTF. Would anyone like to comment on my Rover Experiences ?
What's wrong with Chinese buying Rover? This is the age of globalization and many of u still have the mindset of 100 yrs ago. At least the Chinese save the car and keep it as British as possible in all their advertisements. They even made the new name very similar to Rover. In Chinese characters, Roewe means honor and pride.
It was a sad day when the British New Labour socialist government allowed the demise of part our heritage , Rover / MG. I suppose the bourgeois image was just too much for loathesome Gordon Brown and his New Age Communist apparatchiks to stomach. Happily , USA and France are very protective of their car marques.
We all know that if Rover had been French or German the governments in those countries would NEVER have allowed it to fade away. After all Rover/ MG IS our motoring heritage here in Britain. It's unfortunate that Rover got into trouble during New Labour's tenure of office. These ' New Age Communists ' deplore anything middle-class representing all they loathe and just stood by idley and let it go under. The Rover 75 / MG-ZT will be around for a very long time to come despite Gordon Brown !!
How can the roewe 750 be any better than the rover 75, its slung together by a bunch of unskilled peasants in a forest clearing somewhere in SE China, who are only concerned about diluting quality and making a quick Dollar. BMW, the owners of rover when they were producing cars under the 75 branding, radically improved rover quality and reliability . Now the 75 will be banished to being another nameless, souless chinese product. If you're trying to stimulate an argument, you have no thesis.
Rover is one of the best cars around. it was one of the last british cars. I really feel so sorry for rover though because they made such great cars like the SD1, P5, P6, 214, 216, 400...... but if you see a Roewe 750 coming down your street, think of it as a rover 75 mk2, IT HELPS ME LOL!!!!!!!!
RIP Rover...really wished it could be revive again soon in the near future...it has been established for almost 100 yrs and it shouldn`t fade away just like that...REALLY LOVE ROVER TRULY AND ALWAYS WILL!!!!!!
I agree entirely . See my comment . I would also add that the middle-class traditional ethos that these cars exude is anathema to New Labour 'new-age communist' chavs who absolutely verge on the moronic. Tradition to them equals oppression so we all have to pay now in the form of dumbed -down motoring for the masses. Sad end to a great marque.
Rover is the best ...liket they said...A CLASS OF ITS OWN !, the Roewe is just a chiness puzzle toy on witch back is wrote Made in China !!! You simply can`t buy a Legend and the ability of perfection !
lol hey peepz, only a specific model of Jaguar and a Model of Ford have been sold to TATA,TATA have not bought all of jaguar, i read it on the old papers yesterday, thanx
Vitesse1971 is only partially correct - the Rover "brand" went with L-R and Jaguar to Tata, but the design intellectual property to the 25, 75 and MGF/TF went to SAIC. The ICR for the 45 remains the property of Honda. Ratan Tata can stick a Rover badge on the Nano if he so desires.
The "ex-Buick V8" on this video is also incorrect. The V8 in a Rover 75 uses a Ford 3 valve modular V8, as fitted to the current Mustang.
Well lets put it this way mickey, put your Rover 75 next to a Toyota or Honda, you will see quality set apart from the cheap, outdated, unreliable features of the Rover 75 - in fact the whole Rover range. Everyone knows about the head gasket problem that the K series engine suffers from.
Rover werent the best (but were far from the worst) but they sure as hell are me interesting and better designed that any bland, souless Japanese or Asian crap!!
damn right, everybody that i know of that has had a rover 75 or range rover vougue, it has fuckd up, its got all sorts of mechanical faults, the chinese will install their stock and increase demand on the vehicle
Cocomarco is incorrect - Rover has NOT been sold to Tata, only Land~Rover and Jaguar, whereas the Rover Car is now owned by China.
Just one discrepancy in the Roewe Advert - whilst the music "And Did Those Feet in Ancient Times Walk Along England's....", the car was LH drive, and driving on the right side of the road, whereas in England, the cars are RH drive, and they drive on the left side of the road! Rovers were beautiful cars.
Fuck this !!! When rover sold to that fuckin chinese crap corp I cried!I want the original biritish rovers back!!!If I had a one wish god be my witness it would be that!I have a rover 400 series and I know the biritish way of rover
Rover 75 is one of the most beautifull cars of the world. I´d like that it were sold again but I don´t like very much the new roewe 750, in my opinion it´s a bad copy
now tata has the rights... what a shame what a shame, first it was its own brand, it was doing well it had land rover and the mini. then bmw buys in. they sell land rover to ford; rover to mg; but decides to keep mini. then mg goes bankrupt. nanjing buys in, but gets pissed when ford got the rights to the rover name because they paid more in wanting to protect land rover (now paid with jag), so nanjing creates roewe. then lr and jag gets sold to tata along with rover due to insufficient funds.
i wouldnt say that the chinese are bad people, but i am glad tata bought in because i think they are moving the land rover/jaguar brands in a good direction.
Mi sono messo a piangere... non doveva fallire una casa automobilistica così, che fa auto migliori di bmw e mercedes, paragonando i modelli delle 3 case negli stessi anni. E poi non si chiama roewe, si chiama ROVER! Cinesi di merda!
Had a Ford 4.2 V8 (same as fitted in the mustang), if you look under the number plate on a ZT with V8 fitted you'll see a little mustnag in honour of this! GIUY!
And ps...............why do saic motors make an ad as if the cars British, they dont even sell it over here?

It makes me laugh...the ones who call Rover cars crap are the ones who've never owned one! Hard to believe but Rover cars weren't crap. I've owned several 800s and they were the best in their class. Before knocking the product...drive it! Never again will you drive Eurotrash.
TheRockcottage 1 year ago
@TheRockcottage I've actually owned quite a few. They are great cars while they work but there's always some kind of issue. Take my 827. Great car but constantly had issues with the buttons on the dash. My 75 killed an engine within two years and rover tried to dodge out of the warranty before paying up. My 820 turbo broke a gearbox twice in two years then overheated in traffic. Since moving to BMWs I've had one problem (a window clip) in 10 years.

Khrapov1991 1 year ago
Good video collation, I have a 1970 Rover P5B Saloon and love the old girl and am now looking at a Rover 75 as a general car. Such a shame the Rover has been taken overseas, it had such a lovely history in Britain and China produces good look alikes but poor quality in production. The Rover has been lost to the rest of the world from now. Ah, memories...lol
aussierider223 1 year ago
at least the chinese will probably build them better now that they own the rights to everything that was once rover , pity really ...... yet another english car firm that has gone tits up !! Par for the course really I suppose .
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
The Rover 75 could not have been made to a better standard, it was better than all of the opposition, and sold in greater numbers than the BMW 5 series in Germany.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
really ???? Enough said !!!!
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
Actually it was £10.
And I love my Rover 75 Diesel, it is better than a BMW series 5, and also a Merc of the same class. I have owned both so I do know.
The Rover 75 was by far the best car ever made by Rover, but it was too little too late.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
" Actually it was 10 pounds " , not 1 pound !!! ....... Gee , you really argued a postive contermeasure there didn't you ! Well , you just keep driving around in your 75 then mate .... but if I were you I would buy all the spare parts for the car in circulation as you're going to need them ... and even more so now that Rover doesn't exist ! I doubt the chinese will care about exporting parts for dying rover models in the UK !!
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
well it just proves that the information that I give is correct. Meanwhile us 75 owners have great cars, at great value.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
you may well have a good car in the 75 , it would be the only rover ever made that was half way decent ! And all courtesy of .... you guessed it : BMW !! Whom designed and engineered the car to be unlike all rovers before it .... DECENT !!!
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
The fact is that the only input from BMW, was the Diesel engine, the rest of the 75 was in fact designed by Rover. The only reason that BMW sold the 75, back to Britain was because it was a threat to their 5 series BMW, which sold in smaller numbers in Germany than the 75 (FACT). Also if you look back in history to the 50's, 60's and early 70's, the Rovers of the time (P5, P6 etc) were second only to Rolls Royce and Bentley. And they were VERY much the mark of a discerning purchaser.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
.... heh heh .... sorry , trying not to piss myself laughing reading your sad little rant there , yes , of course ... Yes , the way you explain it seems quite rational !! he heh
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
The Rover 75 was completed before the association with BMW began.
If you look in to the history of Rover cars they were very good quality pre 1975. Second only to Rolls Royce and Bentley, as stated before.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
second only to Rolls ROYCE and Bentley .... ha ha ha ha ha ....ahhhhh , you are definately good for a laugh !!
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
Don't believe everything that you hear on top gear!!!! They are just the opinions of 3 men. By the way have you ever been in a Porsche? Absolute CRAP they are, there is no room in them, the seats are uncomfortable, they cannot hold much shopping in the rear, and they are soo fast that it is difficult to drive one without getting speeding tickets. You see, there are bad issues with every car ever made.
I notice that there are no bad Australian cars. Because there are NO Australian cars.Ford = US
spotswood4444 2 years ago
oooohhh , quite the car connoisseur aren't we !!! Geeza !!!
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
First of all Mr Big mouthed Australian, as I stated in my previous message, FORD are American, and NOT Australian. Then you mention the Vauxhall dealership, that is very interesting my old cocksparrer, due to the fact that Vauxhall are owned lock stock and barrel by GM of... you guessed it America.
You should realise that just because cars are assembled in Australia, it does NOT make them AUSTRALIAN. They are actualy from the country that owns the company. TATA own Jaguar so INDIAN now.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
mini - german , does england own anything anymore ?? Big mouthed australian .... well , I 'd prefer to be that than to have a mouth full of " bad geeza teeth " which you are no doubt in possesion of !! Holden manufactures engines for many car companies and all right here in australia , they power most of the SAAB's and some Alfa Romeo's which you may know of . In fact , Holden is one of the biggest engine builders in the car world . Search that one up " me old mukka "
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
Bad geeza teeth? How bizarre, as you do not even know me, I will put that down to your low class Australian (criminal) upbringing. Anyway i see that as you now realise that there is no such thing as an Australian car company, you have to mention Holden as an engine manufacturer. Sad really, I mean how one can be proved wrong, but yet try to get out on top in the argument by mentioning an engine manufacturer. As usual the Great Briton prevails.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
ha ha .... you are definately an " arseclown " aren't you ! Oh Britania , britania rules the waves .... heh heh .... apparently there is no such thing as an english car company . You must be so upper class .... you know .. seeing as you own a rover 75 and everything !!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
You are very bad at spelling.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
You are english ....... everyone has their faults ! You appear to manage everyday with your disability ...... so if I misspell a word here and there I will live with that .
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
So you see it is you who happen to be uninformed. A car can be made for the Australian market by FORD, for example the FALCON, but it IS an American car. And yes you are right on one point. I am a car connoisseur, thank you very much.
Please do more research before posting your badly researched DRIVEL.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
ha ha ha ... ooohh , wound you up did I " me old china " The falcon and commodore are made , designed , engineered and catered for the australian market . They are the only cars from their parent companies that are so , in fact geeza the commodore has proven a success in export when it has not really been catered for the export market . GM owns holden , Ford is ... well ford , we all are fully aware of that !! Yes , rolls royce are german , bentley-german ,TVR-russian , aston martin-kuwait
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
So you see I was right all along, as my argument was nothing to do with wether or not the UK still had any car companies. My argument was that Australia doesn't have any, and you have confirmed that.
That makes the UK and Australia equal in that respect as the Falcon and the Commodore are NOT Australian.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
you are definately going around in circles with your argument , Holden is an australian car company . GM may own them now but they are still kept separate financially , they were one of the few GM outpost companies that weren't going to be sold when GM filed for bankrupcy as they were deemed to be beneficial for the GM recovery .
likeaaaglove 2 years ago
But they are still OWNED by GM!!!!
And that means that they are now fully American.
They may be based in Australia, and their finances may well be kept seperate, but they are no longer Australian. Just like jaguars are still made in Coventry in England, but the parent company is TATA, so now they are INDIAN,
I am sorry if it is difficult for you.
spotswood4444 2 years ago
it appears that you seem to be the one whom finds it so difficult to realise that the rover 75 model , whilst it broke the english car stereotype of " not being terribly reliable " does not make it a car in the same class as BMW or Mercedes !! That's the crust of the argument " old chap "

Think on .

I mean, it is rather simple: if one is an ignorant grease monkey, if one is a bit unconfortable with issues that exceed one's intellectual capacity of comprehension (politics, ethics, philosophy...) one is usually prudent, refrains from acting in a way that may give that fact away and tries to live otherwise happily...
... not you.

@AhmadAmor Buying a more reliable, better built, faster, cheaper car isn't anti patriotism - it's common sense. The 75 should have done well but look at what had gone before it. With that hanging over it's head it was already behind before it started.

PupuTheClown 1 year ago
@mikiowned Yep...nail on the head. Unpatriotic British drivers killed MG/Rover. Serves them right that they now have to ride around in inferior cars. Many car buyers didn't even test drive Rover cars in order to compare them to the opposition. They don't know what they were missing. The 75 is one of the best cars ever made.
TheRockcottage 1 year ago
@TheRockcottage Whilst I agree that the 75 was a nice car, you have to be unbelievably naive to blame the British public for being "unpatriotic" as the cause of Rover's downfall. The whole reason the public stopped buying British was because, with a few honourable exceptions like the 75, the cars were utterly crap and badly made crap at that.
The UK car industry collapsed because the products weren't good enough and due to poor management, it's as simple as that.
antonyingram 1 year ago
@mikiowned Guess what - nobody bought them because they were built like shit. You can point at managers all you like but the fact is BMW owned/managed them for years and couldn't get the quality up enough - even after giving them engines/etc.
The 75 was a great car but it was against better cars so people got the others. If the lazy fukkers in the factory had built them properly (not the 75) in the first place the 75 wouldn't have been born to a tardy image and we would still have rover.
hunghuge12 1 year ago
@hunghuge12 which engines were they given by BMW?
GingerPhilG 1 year ago
@GingerPhilG The 2.0 diesels and the V8's in the range rovers. There may be others too but I'm not sure. The engines weren't the only things either. Quite a few bits made it across. The problem was how it was all put together. Look at the Honda/Rover link up. Rover built Honda designed engines but without the same level of quality control. That's why the Honda's don't break all the time.
It was terrible to watch Rover messing up time after time even when offered a perfect oppourtunity.

The english flushed away far more viable industries employing far more people than Rover ever did...Like Aerospace and ship building to name just two...
mushroomscouser 2 years ago
Stop showing your ignorance. Hardly any of those cars was a Rover. The ones that were, like the P6 and 100 were fantastic cars, used by Royalty and Prime Ministers - even over Jags and Rollers. The latest 75 (there was one in the 1950's too) is also a fabulous car. I suggest you learn something about the British auto industry before you start making such stupid statements. Dont get MGRover confused with the bad old days of British Leyland or the "Honda-Rovers"
SuperTheRoger 2 years ago
Sorry I am ignorant...After 27 years in the Industry (8 of which spent at Longbridge, 4 at jag) I know nothing. If Royalty and Prime Ministers drove them, they must be good. Utter bollocks. The "latest" 75 was so good no one bought them. And those that were sold, made a loss. ROVER WENT OUT OF BUSINESS BECAUSE THE CARS WERE SHIT IDIOT. THINK BEFORE YOU TALK RUBBISH.
mushroomscouser 2 years ago
I guess that says it all. 27 years. That puts you back in the 80's, when even a Jaguar fell apart due to extremely poor workmanship. So you were one of the those people who produced the shit then! Member of the communist party too then are you? I too have spent 20+ years in the industry - but we obviously see things from a very different direction, so I'll leave it there.
SuperTheRoger 2 years ago
Worked on 75 and S-type too. I am far from a communist, i believe in competitive markets, which is were the Japanese and Germans still sell quality product people want to buy. What destroyed our motorbike and car industry was people like yourself not accepting British product was shit. Jaguar? Quality? Compare the new XF's shut lines with an S-class or A8...yes, we will leave it there. Argue all you like, JLR are in the shit and Rover has gone. VW and Toyota are doing fine.

Ok. The K series was bad if the numpties who bought them let them overheat by letting the coolant level run low.
The turbos (T series ) were reliable unless some dozey git bought a chip to boost more than 12 psi.
The TF was the best selling sports car in the UK (when compared to the likes of the MX5 etc).
It's a shame the UK government weren't as bothered about the "British" car industry as they are now. I'm keeping my 303,000 mile Rover 800 fastback.

What's wrong with Chinese buying Rover? This is the age of globalization and many of u still have the mindset of 100 yrs ago.

AhmadAmor 3 years ago

Rover 75 and Roewe 750 are both a pile of junk.
ep1929 3 years ago
In your opinion maybe, not in reality though...
mickeymoose76 3 years ago 4
Well lets put it this way mickey, put your Rover 75 next to a Toyota or Honda, you will see quality set apart from the cheap, outdated, unreliable features of the Rover 75 - in fact the whole Rover range. Everyone knows about the head gasket problem that the K series engine suffers from.
ep1929 3 years ago
Rover werent the best (but were far from the worst) but they sure as hell are me interesting and better designed that any bland, souless Japanese or Asian crap!!
mickeymoose76 3 years ago 3
damn right, everybody that i know of that has had a rover 75 or range rover vougue, it has fuckd up, its got all sorts of mechanical faults, the chinese will install their stock and increase demand on the vehicle

In my opinion the commercial of this Rover 75 copy (3:31-4:14) is not bad, but it wants to show the car like something it is not.
Just my 2 cents...

Rover 75 is one of the most beautifull cars of the world. I´d like that it were sold again but I don´t like very much the new roewe 750, in my opinion it´s a bad copy
conceptive89 3 years ago 2
its not a copy, they acquired rover tech but ford (or gm dont quite remember) held back the Rover name

ford has the rights of the name ROVER
06Panzer06 3 years ago 2
now tata has the rights... what a shame what a shame, first it was its own brand, it was doing well it had land rover and the mini. then bmw buys in. they sell land rover to ford; rover to mg; but decides to keep mini. then mg goes bankrupt. nanjing buys in, but gets pissed when ford got the rights to the rover name because they paid more in wanting to protect land rover (now paid with jag), so nanjing creates roewe. then lr and jag gets sold to tata along with rover due to insufficient funds.

Id rather Rover was bought by an indian company, the chinese are ruthless people with no scruples or morals...
mickeymoose76 3 years ago 2
i wouldnt say that the chinese are bad people, but i am glad tata bought in because i think they are moving the land rover/jaguar brands in a good direction.
cocomarco101 3 years ago 2
What are Tata planning to do with LR/Jag?
Are they going to keep the current Ford platforms or design new ones?
Travellinghobo2 3 years ago
they are just going to keep them, and over time they will redisgn them with newer vehicles. the process will take about 9 years.

Mi sono messo a piangere... non doveva fallire una casa automobilistica così, che fa auto migliori di bmw e mercedes, paragonando i modelli delle 3 case negli stessi anni. E poi non si chiama roewe, si chiama ROVER! Cinesi di merda!
