Hey dude, fuck your editing. Can't I just have the damn interview without music, and look at his face from a few angles? I just want a normal damn interview. No editing necessary!
I bought Snuff on my same trip to the US and I havent read it yet, hence, it has been collecting dust and come from every great book ive read since it is in my posesion, one of them Choke, you can imagine how sticky it must be by now.
Im sure that when I finally read it it will happen like the first time I jacked off again after turning 8 or 9 and find out it is a 'sin,' after days, weeks, months of just not do it, i ended up saying, Man... why didnt I do this before...
"Snuff" and "Survivor" are the only works of Palahniuk's I have no interest in reading. So far I've only read "Choke" and it ranks to be one of the most facinating pieces of satirical literature I've read to date.
@JesusCristo2002 Survivor is quite a book. I wasnt all that intestred on the story either, even less, buy it or 'waste' my time reading it until I decied I wanted to read every single word Palahniuk has put on paper, and it really surprised me, very good book, you know, entertaining, unpredictable as your first time of almost everything... it really goes beyond the book-back's and any wikipedia description.
Chuck also didn't know that they (Tyler and Narrator) would end up being the same person until the end of the book until he almost finished the book so "Jack" as a 3rd person couldn't have been a foreshadow of 1 man, 2 personalities
when he talks about himself in the third person like jack in (or in the book as joe) it's to say the he is ultimately no different than the rest of the world. Like the last name Smith, it is very common. Remember "you are not a special, individual snowflake." Quote isn't exact but the idea is there....
We've always known the Narrator's name was Jack, it's the name of the third person, this 'collapsed' figure that Chuck talks about who still remains nameless...which seems to be the point.
the narrator really has no name. people commonly refer to him as jack because for one; it's easier to say than "the narrator", and because he refers to his own emotions as "jack" because of the readers digest articles.
I was under the impression it was more of a multiple personality situation (which is a real-life condition), rather than two people magically living inside the same body... thus, mentally he might be two people but in the real world he would only have one name
I already thought he was awesome after reading his fiction but after reading "stranger than fiction" I am completely sure that he is the writer to define the attitudes of our weird, fucked up time here on earth.
LOL. And I can really type that because I literally laughed out loud. (I think I even snorted at the Charlotte's Web comment - so true!) You suck for not holding these events in my backyard so that I'm forced to enjoy only these tiny little snippets!!
hemingway had to go out once he realized this dude had been born

@Stepanskiy23 I was referencing what the other guy said more.
But I think what Chuck meant by his joke was that Hemingway would have actually participated in gangbangs to gather information about them.

Can someone explain the Hemingway reference?

I love his books. They all open my eyes in one way or another, especially Fight Club and Invisible Monsters.

The Hemingway joke was a little too much. Chuck had one book I liked. Hemingway had a whole legacy.

HA!! i always suspected that the narrator's name in fight club was Jack! and now i just heard it from the man himself. my whole day just got better.

wrong. jack is the name of the reader's digest articles on the human body.
i.e. "i am jacks medula oblongota"
its just a way to show the narrator's emotion. read the book

the narrator's name is Tyler Durden.....

tyler uses jack's body while he is asleep. that is why everyone calls him tyler at the end. they are two different people using the same body.

yes, its Joe in the book. "I am Joe's Complete Lack of Surprise"...etc.
