i read this book in school and about the grits...

our teacher did a demonstration and when the grits are uncooked they are like sharp or something so kneeling on them is actually painful, he got a few cuts on his knees when he showed us. he said it was a common punishment in the south or something, where grits are popular.

Ray wasn't the killer by a surprise plot twist, but putting this book up with Twilight? Give me a break. The characters were real, they weren't bland, unlike so many characters I've seen. She runs away because her father is a jerk and she wants to know what happened to her mother. Her father won't tell her anything. She may be a little immature, but that's to be expected because she's fourteen and not an adult yet. Plus she really hasn't had anybody there to teach her except Rosaleen. There really is know reason to like T Ray AT ALL. But honestly I respect you for your opinion I just don't agree with a lot it. Your review was quite entertaining and funny... I'll give you that.

in the movie, he actually does have her kneel on some grits and no they are not cooked, but yet she has marks from em which seemed quite odd 2 me. it did not bring up the part where she was supposedly raped by T-Ray. the movie followed a lot of the book, but was critiqued a lil differently. things usually are in movies 4 every genre.

Wow. I got as far as the third chapter and then gave up. I found out what happened in the rest of the book by asking the librarian.

What other books did you have to choose from?

Cause if Jane Austen or Charlotte Bronte was there you should have picked one of those. Cos SLOB did suck. It is one of the crappest books I have ever read. Down there with Twilight and Great Gatsby.
