I think it varies quite a lot. Whenever I've been there's usually been loads, but sometimes there have only been 10, which I would absolutely love as it'd give me more of a go! But of course that never happens! As for not filming the method, I was on a weekend away and trying to get all the towers I was ringing, and have only 8 mins of film memory on my camera.
I saw them the first time I went and they were half muffled. The sound was absolutely amazing and I regret not taking a video. You could actually listen quite comfortably without fingers in ears then.
nearly forgot to ask, why couldn't you film the method ringing?

Do they often ring the 12 for practices, i hear they are short of ringers these days.

I found if I turn my headphones volume down really low, I can hear almost every bell when you were ringing rounds.
