Oh my. My grandma is still alive and well, but I can bawl on the spot thinking about when she has to go. She means so much to me, and I owe her the world. I don't know how I would make it without her.
I heard this song for the first time and I cried so hard. I think that even though the song is about pain and suffering, it also shows that you will make it, because the people who love and care for you are willing to help you. I just want to thank Jem for being so kind in helping a family get through their pain by writing this song, and for making me realize that we will make it through.
I believe this song is acutally about a couple that let her in, and rented their basement to her. 9/11 occured in NYC, and the husband passed away that day. She stayed with his wife, to help her, and her children. She acutally put together the new 9/11 memorial album. It a beautiful song, and I can relate to this song 100%. Absolutely beautiful.
@ArronTattersall I suppose i wont know the real meaning without asking her. But to me its about losing someone. And knowing that you arent the only one going through with the loss of someone
I didnt realize what the song was actually about. Until a few listens. Its nice to know the actual meaning. But it reminds me that its been almost a year.
Hey Slim Shady !! Proof is still with you... i've seen him (loads of mediumism in my life)... "Do not stand at my grave and cry - i am not there - i did not die"
I know this sounds cheesy, but I had to put my dog down a month ago... This song helps me remember her the way she was BEFORE she got sick. I felt her life go out of her... I was upset because her eyes were open... It was a very traumatic experience for me and I can never replace her. She was my baby girl. RIP Mandy.
@ManifestingPoetess I'm sorry to hear about your baby girl and no, it's not cheesy. That is actually why I'm listening to this song too. My baby girl, Diva, past away on Mother's Day. I hope you know that Mandy is still with you with every memory you think. She still lives in your heart.
@askye7 Thanks so much for your reply! I'm so sorry to hear about Diva. Mandy really was my baby girl and I still listen to this song from time to time. It helps. I hope that you can find peace very soon.

ok... enough talk aboot placenta n' afterbirth....for a minute to play this for Leigh Bowery.... some people are just too good for earth and they never ever really die anyway and you must grow and learn that they are still here always & forever "with you"....
"do not stand at my grave and cry...i am not there...i did not die".... i cry buckets every single time i listen to this song it's a gutwrenching good cry of a release undescribable
i will dress up like a rapper; Eminem WILL dress up in Leigh Bowery clothing/designs !!! everybody's entitled to strange passions... this be mine... ME & SHADY TOGETHER AT LAST !!!!!
i love this song it just blows my mind cos it describes the past 4 yrs of my life... the deepest pain my soul has ever known... i AM "making it thru"... and i never thought i would - i thought i was going to die literally...
thank god for both Eminem & Leigh Bowery.... strange but true
@AnonymousAesthetic ... This song is incredible... i love it... i play it all the time for all the loving amazing pple' that we've lost so they know how valued & respected they are.... the only thing in this world that has any real value is true love and genuine connection; the fake pple melt like witches in water when i listen to this song and left are ONLY the best of people i feel contact with in this world and the next... god bless all truly good people
A truly heartfelt thanks to those of you who dedicated this song to @DelaraDarabi. As a talented poet, painter, and pianist, I know that she would have loved this. May she rest in peace. Best -- Lily Mazahery
This song was just dedicated on Twitter by Judy Ajifu for ~ Delara Darabi~ a child hanged yesterday in Iran-although innocent. look up delara darabi paintings and you too will feel the love and remember a true artist poet and beautiful child whos life was suddenly taken by evil Iranian officials. RIP Delara Darabi We will never forget what they did to you!
My Grandma died a few months ago, and everything this song talks about is true. Jem's previous album featured a song called "Missing You" which got me through the grieving process over my Grandma, or so I thought.
This song brought everything back.
It's pure genius. She's such a unique artist, and should be more recognised than she is.

johnfoxall15 3 years ago
Hi johnfoxall15.
This is from the album "Down To Earth", in the album booklet, Jem writes:
"In loving memory of David Berry and DeShaun Holton. For your families and friends and for all who have experienced the tragedy of a sudden loss."
I hope this explains the meaning of the song for you.

im doing an amazing lyrical dance 2 this song, the lyrics are so deep its insane.
KelsiieKetamine 3 years ago 2
Love the song! Poem on the end is simply breathtaking. There is just something im curious about, the end lyrics (male) in unknown to me language are:
Olele Olele Ubaba
Uzube naye Nikosi
Olele Olele Ubaba
Olele Ubaba
(Or something like that) those that mean anything too ? Or is it just some plain melody too. thx if someone could help.
VejlorMorne 3 years ago
I cannot find a direct translation.
Olele, Olele, Ubaba
Be asleep, Be asleep, Father
The next line is a reference to God, I believe as Nkosi means "King" or "Chief" but there is no translation for "Uzube"
Naye = And him
I hope this helps.
It is from a Zulu prayer.
