  • Can you tell me how you wired the controllers to the usb headers...I'm looking into it and so far all i've found is either having to buy a kit or programing a microcontroller. TY in advance

  • howd you do the audio? only one channel out? or you using a y adapter for audio? used coax digital audio?

  • Please respond! How did you install windows with no disc drive?

  • @DarkZimmer There are tons of ways to install windows without a built in disc drive. A) USB disc drive. B) install windows from a usb thumb drive (windows vista and above)

  • Will it blend?

  • I am going to make one of these for me, I think once I complete it I am going to post a Video on it.

  • lol, bought an VERY old pc (from 1990 or something) drilled some holes for extra fans, now its a epic machine =) looks old as hell with Zero LED fans

  • VERY nice. Looks even better than the one with CD Drive in the cartridge slot.

I'd like to convert some original NES controllers to PC type as well

I wish I had the time and work space to do one of these because I have a lot of NES donor parts sitting around that I used to use for console overhauls.

That emulator looks interesting too. I'll have to check that out.

    Thanks for showing this.

  • can it run pac man at max graphic settings?

  • how much it cost to make that NES-PC

    i wanna build one too....

  • How much would people pay for one of these? I'm thinking about building a batch and throwing them on ebay!

  • @pinkfloydeffect

I sold mine on ebay for about 500.... while people might pay a lot, parts will still cost you at least 300, and it takes a lot of time to get things right..... If your time is valuable like mine is, my build took 24+ hours. it ends up not being worth it.

  • @cbutters Interesting, I have an old Xbox1 and an Intec AV switcher that looks like an Xbox (they stack together) I already dremeled out the top and bottom of one another and made it one large roomy case. I was thinking about doing the same

  • @cbutters Actually, I make these kind of mods, and ofc repairs and sell games and computers too, but when you come up to making about 2 per day and having a business to get lower bulk prices and can write it off on tax and have ghost OS, you can make a lot of money from it. Say that you sell them for 500$, you buy all the material you need for about 200$ (As a BUSINESS!) and spend maybe 10h per machine (when you get it going) your making after all and if it sells 200$ per day. OK for a start!

  • @cbutters

Well this setup is already pretty outdated..

    This would be mine:

Zotac ION-ITX-P Wi-Fi CULV DDR3 Mini-ITX Motherboard with integrated NVidia ION graphics chip & 5.1 Sounds.

    4GB DDR3 (times two)

Dual Core Celeron Low Voltage SU2300 processor ~1.2Ghz

    Plextor PX-B120U Slim Blu-Ray Drive (4xBD-R, 4xBD-R SL, 4xBD-R DL, 8xDVD+R, 8xDVD+RW, 8xDVD+R DL)

    Toshiba MK1059GSM 2.5" 1tb HDD

Total price would be around 800 to 1000€

  • thats gotta be the coolest thing ive ever seen. the most ive ever done was build a computer out of a shoeboxx. i imagine u could make a pretty penny off sellin those

  • dude, i found a site with loads of the NES mods put together. its called nesprojects, com

  • Comment removed

  • dude thats amazing, ignore these stupid haters!!

u got any instructions on how to do this :P

  • So i`m actually loving this setup and I haven`t started yet and I was wondering if you had a Tutorial you could set me up with or makeone? Ive looked but haven`t been able to find any like this. I love the way you kept it the same as the original.

  • @MrVVut you can check out my website @ exoid.com look in our forums and there are several threads.

  • @cbutters Thanks, I`ll check it out!

  • I like it, I wanna make one myself as I'm studying electronics and it'll be a fun project.

  • which mother board did you use and how much ram, what's your clock speed?

  • You should really have removed the wirless casing, down sized the Hard drive to 2.5 inch so the mother board is lower than you could have added a cd and dvd drive that would line up with the cartridge slot.

  • @hantechbl

it is a 2.5 inch HDD, and it is a possibility to make the mobo lower, however I did not see the need for a dvd or cd drive... I mean who listens to CDs anymore and all my dvds are ripped to easily watchable file formats, so it didn't make sense for me, but it would definitely be cool. If you end up making one like this let me know, I would love to take a look.

  • @cbutters hey there are alot of people that still listen to cd's

  • how do you get more games?

  • id buy that off of u

  • This is a pretty neat mod!! congratulations! I have two NES consoles, i might give this a try. I will check the links to see the model of motherboard used, i hope is there, pretty small one. I want to build one like this, but add a save state and load state buttons on the controller. :)

  • What Brand USB hub did you use? I'm building an NES pc and want to make sure the hub will fit in the adapter plate.

  • id like to see mame on this using the nes advantage joystick

  • Wouls you ever sell it and if you would for how much

  • That's pretty impresive man.

Wish i knew how to do that.

  • How is the heat on that thing when playing N64 games?

That case was clearly not designed to cool such a large (and hot) motherboard and cpu. I'm planning on building my own NES PC this summer and I like this stealth type plan but I'm afraid I might need to cut a fan hole in the back.

  • The Motorola digi and pvr cases have enough holes to cool a system like heck.

As for this NES, I hope there's enough venting.

But, than again it really depends on how modern all the parts are and how powerful or old the processing unit is.

  • Nice Media/Gaming Center!

  • but you don't need them

  • basicly, i think that they can go in the usb ports

  • thats exactly how im going to make mine,

    the "Stealth" look.

what's the Specs on the RAM, Processor, HDD

  • i love the usb connectors

  • damn is this hard to do cause i done the homebrew hack to my wii and it does about the samething but now i kinda wanna do this so is this something that would be done without too much complication

  • do you have to blow in it to make it work, haha, but it's awesome

  • thats awesome.

  • I would BUY ONE OF THOSE!!!!

  • nice job man! did you put a disk drive where the nes games used to go?

  • you are a genius!!!!

  • sweet!!!!!!!!!

  • Now that's just clever.

    Awesome work, dude.

  • lmfao nice....

  • very nice! :D

  • OHhhhhhhhhhhhhh Brings back memories!!

  • Wow amazing job. Props!

  • sweeet..

  • GJ.

I have NES, but I aint gonna mod it. I'm gonna keep it original and play with it, only 'cos super mario bros fking owns. :D

  • that is cool,you did a great job,congrats

  • this is nice, but ever thought of putting a DVD/CD player drive where the NES cartridge port would go. I think that would fit perfectly if you mounted it to the top of the NES case.

  • If you wouldn't mind, could you also, or at least, post all of the parts you used to make this? thanks again

  • Hello. I am very interested in recreating this project myself, and even bought a dremel in anticipation. I'm just wondering, though, if you could be a bit more specific on how you did certain things? Like, I don't know how to wire the USB-to-NES adapter thing, or the audio, etc. Would you be able to maybe make a more descriptive guide of sorts on certain things? If you're too busy to or something, a response sayings so would be nice, too. Thanks.

  • i want one more then anything else!!!!!!

  • yeah man !

  • Great job man!

  • howd u get gameEX 2 run on startup?

  • put in startup menu

  • lol

  • things look pretty packed in there

  • that thing must get really hot.

  • Nice setup. I think most of the 'hack' jobs you see are because people put the cd/dvd drive in where the cartridge slot is and that takes up that precious space.

    Like the video, good detail

  • you must have alot of time on your hands to do all of that... how long did it take you to do that???

  • Nice job buddy

  • That's cool. I'm going to make a system like that as well. But I was going to take some NES cartrages (Like 4-6) and put either USB drives inside OR IDE Laptop HDDs in some of them. It is actualy pretty easy. That GAME EX thing looks cool too. Is there a file browser in it??

  • what micro ITX board are you using. Because obviously its a onboard video card.

  • Hey, How Old Are You?

  • I am 25

  • Great! Have you any extra fans? Doesn't it overheat? There isn't much place in the case... When I will have money, i'll build a such mod too. I have a NES but it doesn't work.

  • does the gun work????? and the power glove?

  • This Idea may have already been thrown out there but you could use xbox controllers and a wireless adapter. Badass Mod!!!

  • good luck playn smash bros with all of the crapy n64 emulators 1964 happens to be the best

  • Its been done before. At Instructables

  • Ugg, my TODO list of projects is getting too long. This is definitely near my top though as I have a few spare NES systems. Mind if I steal your USB idea for the expansion slot on the bottom? Haha :D

I must say though, you did a great job.

  • pretty clean, i just hope you screw the top back down lol then it would be flawless, just show up to a retro lan party with that thing lol

  • Cool!

  • very nice.

  • what is this i dont understand.oh and nice big ass tv =)

  • you should have made a disk drive so that it would position behind the door that you open to put the NES games in. but other than that, MAD props. 5 stars.

  • how did you make the start+select jump back feature?

    would appreciate your help

  • Comment removed

  • Nice :D

    Where I can buy one ?? :D

  • you cant you have to make it!!!!!!

  • i want one of these!!!!

  • I LUUUV YOU!!!!!

  • Thats awesome what tv do you have it hooked up too ?

  • NICE

  • I'm going to do this :) But I cant afford the pc, So I'll use a softmodded slim ps2 :)

  • how do u keep it kooled?

  • How come the nes picture doesnt fill the screen is this problem exclusive to NTSC televisions? Will PAL televisions display the picture full screen or will PAL game versions make the image fill the screen.

  • sounds stuckup to me....

whats the point of retaining the original connectors? hes losing video quality and the option of USB connectivity...

"...In fact the majority look like frankenstein hack jobs."

ive seen a couple with a very clean look! you arent the only talented person alive

  • video quality for what? Im sorry but NES and SNES games aren't going to take advantage of any high def output.

Losing the option of USB connectivity? Did you miss the part where the USB hub pops out of the bottom?

I agree I have seen a couple with a very clean look. But I've seen a lot that weren't, I know Im not the only talented person alive, but thank you for considering me one. I didn't mean to come off so pretentious.

  • what if you want to use it as a fully functional computer? you have some nice, expensive parts in there, but you've narrowed its possible usages down quite a bit.

I think it would make a great multiconsole/media center system underneath your TV

  • What I have seen in the vide then the machine was never ment to be a media machine...consoles are for games and are not supposed to be expensive media machines

  • this is fucking awesome.

  • VERY NICE

  • Great stuff! :)

  • how did it cost in total

  • very cool...coulda saved time and downloaded an emulator for both nes and n64...

    very cool though.

  • that was essentialy a retro game emulator so why download it seperate when its all in one program?

  • smart.

  • dude this is genious i envy you i wanna make my own now lol good job

  • AMAZING. But uhh the crunchy plastic noises were kind of disturbing, IDK why but they always get me in a video hahaha. =P

  • cool

  • what did you do about overheating?

  • What makes you think it is overheating? ;)

No, I undervolted the processor, it produces a lot less heat, the NES has a vent at the top, and there is a fan on the inside that pushes the air around and out the vent.

  • It does sound a bit risky, but on the other hand, you don't use that much power... :)

It's a cool build, but personally, I'd go for a Shuttle mini-ITX case, sacrificing coolness for.. well.. cooling.

Hmm, I wonder if the same kind of machine could be built, using Linux instead of Windows as the operating system - transitions between emulators, boot-up time and fileserving could be made a lot smoother.

  • shit shit shit bull shit fuck you what i havent word what a shit it is

  • im gonna try the same thing but with a xbox

  • kool

  • i have a question.... how u shut down thes NES [computer] ???

  • It is a computer... Start -> Shutdown

Or just press the power button.

  • its gonna overheat

  • no it won't... This guy installed a heatsink so the processor won't die...

  • DUDE! if u made me one of these i would totaly buy it from u

  • Is it vented well?

  • how much ram do you have and is it ddr or ddr2

  • There is a version of the D201GLY2 with S-video.

  • you should get bootscreen. you could make the winows boot more refro

  • That's so weird. My nes did not have composite out, it had a little port that ran to a grey adapter that you would screw a coax cable into. They didn't even have composite when I had my nintendo!

  • The grey adapter port you are talking about was on the rear and was RF. however, the side port had a video and audio RCA connection (composite)

And yes they did have composite when you had your nintendo, your nintendo has composite.

  • This is one of the coolest retro systems I've ever seen. Probably only topped by the NES controller coffee table.

  • That was awesome. Great job. Love that emulator, I'm getting it thanks.

  • fucking cool! job well done sir!

  • One word: amazing.

  • that was super cool video

mad props Did u take a class to learn how to do this

  • is it possible to do the same mod using an old 1st gen mac mini? will the software work?

  • what a genuine engineer. Mostly enjoyed watching the video for feature. Answered my questions on over heated processors, but was madd that you used a xbox controller on a nintendo system.

  • watch?v=1UEOZGFzPas

  • aaaaahhh. rickrolled again :(

  • that is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad ass!

  • i LOVE it. where can i buy one?

or atleast find a guide to make my own

  • You are a genius manm keep it up! *5 stars*

  • by far the coolest thing i have seen made on youtube, just amazing

  • you should really make a "how to" video..i want one so badly now

  • what nintendo 64 emulator du you use? The best one i know of is the project 64, but I havn't got smash bros to work this good!

  • I want one.

  • good stuff, i like how you kept the look

  • Damn, that is really awesome. I'm just curious, had any heating issues?

  • Ive undervolted the processor to keep down on heat, It gets pretty warm, about 156 F if I leave the lid open, and only 144 if I open the lid. So its not too bad as the Celeron 220 in there is rated up to 197 degrees.

  • nice :)

  • super amazing bro, i really like that alot

  • Good Job; looks amazing. Man; there's alot of haters on youtube....

  • That is amazing.

  • You my friend are a god. wow i want one soo bad, i dont know if i could make one how much would it cost?

  • Mala and mamewah are better frontends. Plus they are both free. GameEX ripped ya off, sorry.

  • I didnt register yet... Thanks for the tip on the frontends.

  • man you are awesome, I'd surely want one and I wanna build one except I haveno Idea how you convertedthe connectors tp RF video and USb...

  • ...Good work I love it. No suggestions either. Many people hate intel - but here proves fine. Keep up the work and I rated your vid.

  • Why didn't you just mod an xbox? It's cheaper and works better!

  • because its all about creating the classic look with the games and controllers to match. so there would be no point in putting it in an xbox shell.

  • That's the only reason I could think of......that is a major advantage!

But kids if you don't care about the nes shell please! JUST MOD YOUR XBOX!

  • Nice!!

  • Wait, so you just put a bunch of micro PC stuff into a plastic box? I hate to be a buzz kill but i could do that and I am only 14. Really.

  • That's great, you should make your own then. I wasn't trying to make this project incredibly complex, although there is more than meets the eye. we have stock controllers working with USB, and everything had to be adapted to fit in the original connections. I just wanted to make it for myself and happened to show it to everyone. At least I did something in a youtube video instead of just staring at the camera and crying about my emotions or something.

  • Any Different then a Xbox?

unless its the kool factor sure Nes case >>>xbox case, both the same.

  • Great work!

  • I applaud your decision to maintain the composite connection.

This thing is slick, nicely done!

  • That thing is awesome, great job. The video is excellent too, though the only thing I would say is that the sniffing was a bit off-putting. Great job though!

  • How much do you want for it?

    Seriously.

  • will you make me one, ill pay you. pleassssssssse

  • How much are you willing to pay?

  • how much are you asking for?

  • D201GLY2T $75 NES $30 1GB DDR2 Memory $15 160GB HDD SAMSUNG $65 PICOPSU 90 KIT $50 USB HUB $15 RetroUSB adapters (2) $40 TOTAL $290 LABOR ~28 HRS $20 per hour labor rate = $560 labor so at least $850 I've been thinking maybe holding an ebay auction for these so who knows.
  • Wouldn't of it been easier just to put a Mac mini into a NES and then putting Windows on it using Bootcamp or parallels?

  • Yeah
