I saw one a few months ago. I thought it couldn't be a hyena but then I found that they do live in Iraq. It's a scary beast! I've seen jackals and desert foxes too but these things are much scarier.

Clearly, the base has not done its job in securing their garbage. For the same reason campsites need to lock it up so bears don't get in. That is all. Humanely relocating them is fine I guess, but really they need to keep their trash in hand so the animals don't get attracted to a human settlement to begin with.

What else would you prefer they do, then? They didn't hurt the hyena, they just captured him to take him off base and set him free, far away from people.. so he couldn't get hurt (possibly get hit by a car, shot by someone for trespassing and getting into their garbage, etc).

And if you're referring to the way they captured him, it actually doesn't hurt them.. it looks bad but is harmless and is safer than tranquilizing him or using other more forceful methods.

This hyena was caught on base and its regulation that the "vector control" goes and captures them and takes them off base. They are a hazard to personel and often carry deseases ( ie.Rabies). Also they come on base and eat the garbage from the chow halls and become dependent on our occupation if we allow this the young wont learn to hunt for themselves. 75mistakes, cat of hell, and in rainbows140 id like to see any of you go out and capture one let alone even set foot in Iraq, your all weak.

Take it easy, Kyoushiro.. they just relocate the hyenas to a safer place (a safe location for both the hyena and the military personnel), they don't harm them in any way. And the method they used to capture him isn't cruel either, I dunno if you ever watch Animal Planet or Animal Cops on the channel or whatever but they use those handheld devices to remove lots of animals, and it doesn't harm them at all.
