@nitrohead7 Largely I agree with most of what you say, but supposedly there is a type of desert dwelling bush that produces an oil that can catch flame when the heat gets high enough. Granted that doesn't mean the bloody thing speaks, considering that Moses may have been exposed to Volcanic fumes...I think most of his life was a hallucination if he really existed at all.

Once again its just an example of how the common understanding and inteligence has progressed, Not to be taken literaly. And as more people learn to understand eachother and the world around them instead of being afraid of something a little different such as ideas or apearence then we can move closer to a more harmonious world. It can never be perfect though due to the evolution of the human ego and human nature in general but we no where near as close as we could be.

If people want to debate and interpet their beliefs, I don't mind; I'll even smile indulgently while they tell me the latest edition of the Bible is still the undiluted Word of God... but the bottom line is "Believe or Die", anyone who ascribes to the bible but won't admit that is fooling themselves. More people have been executed for denying Jesus than for any other reason in history; rivers of blood poured out in the name of the Loving God. If prayer helps, then pray quietly; I'm *thinking*.

For someone who supposedly studied history,could you at least spell Ahkenaten's name right. I have heard many modern desperate attempts by God botherers to linguistically try and match biblical names to known ancient inscriptions such as hieroglyphs.Even though Egyptians only wrote consonants.so how they can match a dead language to English is beyond me.For e.g.
Pharaoh Thutmosis= Moses
The Red Sea = The Reed Sea, even though in ancient Egyptian or aramaic Reed was probably pronounced Shabaz

Realistic? An all powerful moral authority? I think the pagans were more realistic in their belief that the universe was run by rather capricious beings. Besides, the biblical god has punished people for equally absurd things, including the wasting of one's seed- pretty much the same idea.

I've been thinking about religion for years now Will' as I see many smarter than me who believe. But the harder I look the less sense it makes. It must be a great comfort having a true belief in an afterlife and also a win win situation! If they're right then free passage to heaven, if they're wrong then they'll never know. Survival is the most basic instinct, it's a daunting thought that one may cease to exist. I'm not surprised that a desperate person will grab at straws on their death bed.

You've said a lot Will' but told me little. I have heard that a Moses is recorded in Egyptian history but nothing about him leading a few million 'slaves' through a parted Red Sea. (Nothing about a few hundred thousand Egyptian males being killed either.)Now if this, as you say, was just a few small tribes then it's not much to base a religion on is it... It's a bit like the writings of Nostradamus. If something is proven incorrect then blame the interpretation... Very convenient.
