I would like the evolution didn't be a religion. I would like that the ones that call themselves scientists went just what call themselves, scientists. When somebody wich calls himself scientist leaves her laboratory and he enters in a field that doesn't belong her, he takes a great risk of committing serious mistakes. It would like that it was not the case of Mr. Richard, but it is.
invite him to a party! are you havin' a laugh hes a witch turning frogs into people he should be barbabcued.its so obviouse were we came from. we would have figured it out long long ago if religion had'nt of supressed the free mind.
didn't Basil Fawlty also say: "no Manuel, there's no fire" when there clearly was, and shove the poor spaniard into the fire room where he was almost killed?
Wow. Good work on posting this. I saw it when it was first broadcast and it had a massive impact on me. If only there could be a Dawkins in every single classroom on the planet. I can't help feeling the world would be a much better place.
You can like Dawkins and his views or not, but it's nearly impossible to deny his clarity of thinking. I think this lecture is especially good because it can appeal to both adults and young people. We need more things like this to help young people to explore and expand their sense of wonder in ways that traditional religions have no way to compete with. Cheers Dawkins, and cheers to you who posted this.
I thought you might have at least tried to give an intelligent answer. Did you know the R.C. Church agrees with Darwinian evolution as well as some believing (in God) scientists? Does this mean all the popes and Roman Catholics are going to hell? Either make an intelligent contribution or I will simply block you and delete your messages.
He's got a sticky key. Of course evolution is testable: farmers have been doing selective breeding for thousands of years and in the process changing the lifeforms on the planet.
Yes it is repeatedly testable, when new evidence is discovered, the theory of evolution is able to account for that evidence, and when the theory has been used to say what -should- be there, such as the fact apes have 48 chromosomes and we have 46, they said, well 2 must have fused together, and that's exactly what they found.
Scientists don't challenge an argument without evidence, if they felt they had sufficient evidence to disprove the theory, then they would certainly do so.
A theory is a statement that is devised to explain a group of facts, stands up to repeated testing, and can be used to make predictions.
The theory of evolution explains all the facts, is repeatedly testable, and can be used to make predictions. If you disagree with evolution, then you still need a hypothesis which explains all the facts, and is testable, if you disagree with the facts themselves, then you pretty much disagree with science, which is a very dangerous area to walk into.

The theory of evolution is reapeatedly testable? If you hear lies like this long enough you believe them. University academics are to afraid to stand up and examine the "facts" of evolution because they would be laughed at by their peers. The digger wasp proves evolution? Now that is what we should be laughing at>
Do you honestly believe that in the 150 years the theory has been around, and the amount of evidence that has been collected, all of it supporting the theory, that you can just say "oh it's all a lie", that's what's laughable.
In case you missed the point of this particular lecture, which I think you have, it's about growing up in the universe and how we view our environment.
Laugh all you will - and we shall smile at your ignorance ;-)
There are tons upon tons of data which supports this theory - otherwise we would have to come up with even better explanations to fit the results and facts. And yes, it can be tested ! And it has often been used for predictions, which turned out to be true. Read some books ! ;-)

Richard rules scientific theory, which in the science world means FACT. Thank you for playing.
hey thebaal, my theory is your the biggest dumbass around here, theories arent theories if they have evidence to support it, gravity is also still a fucking theory, if you think that you should be deleted from this earth.
You misunderstand the word "theory" in this context - it does NOT mean a loose specualtion or wild idea taken out of the thin air, as we may sometimes use it, but a set of logical and connected explanations based on lots and still mounting scientific evidence & new and even better methods of dating and analyzing DNA - and fitting the theories, facts and measurements from Geology, Bio-chemistry, Paleontology and Paleo-archology.
