I will say I didnt have a great relationship with my father growing up.. not much I remember then after 13-14 yrs of distance.. my brother was the one to reconnect & jan 2009 I went to visit him for the first time & then moved near him dec 2009. Not easy yet worth it for me & him.. he's tough yet so am I haha.. yet honestly I feel better knowing I made the step to rekindle our relationship. Not many have that option.. Good luck & God speed.

@jakeslife79 Do it. I hadn't seen my mom since moving to Europe in 2007. She came to see me for Christmas and stayed one month, had a lot of laughs, talked about the past. She passed in her recliner less than a week after she returned home to the states.
