  • yo dawg, I herd you like computers, so i put a computer in yo computer in yo computer in yo computer in yo computer in yo computer in yo computer so you can compute while you compute you compute you compute you compute you compute you compute.

  • What's name of baby?

  • I tried Synergy and UAC doesn't like it when the computer that's using UAC isn't the host.

In other words, if you run a client on windows and you get a UAC prompt, you'll be fucked because your keyboard and mouse won't work.

  • @commodore256 Who cares about UAC, just turn the damn thing off! :D

  • Actually, I just rolled the dice and it worked.

I added Server1 and Server2 to the Client's list of computers, and it just worked.

One thin that may have made a difference is that I have Server1 being to the left of the client, and Server2 being to the right of the client.

Haven't tested it out to see if it made difference, but it works.

  • Any way to get Synergy to have two computers work as the server, and use one monitor together?

In my office we have a 40" tv hooked up to a laptop. My two bosses would like to be able to use that screen as a 2nd monitor from time to time (probably never at the same time, so no mouse fighting).

I could always just swap the server name on the attached laptop, but looking for a way to have the Client look for two servers.

  • @DigitalHubris :: I have never actually done it that way. However, if I were to try it, I would hook both machines up to a single display, in different video ports. Most of my displays come with both VGA and DVI, and it is very common to see that. Once you have them both hooked up to the same display, you should be able to just switch the video source on the display itself, and when you mouse from one machine to the other, you would see that on the second [read video input] "virtual" display.

  • Why would you need this kind of setup?

  • Love this application, First app I've ever seen thats suchs as smooth

  • what you need to do is post on how you setup the .conf file. i have about as many computers you do, the left right up down on the section and section links makes my head hurt :)

  • you do know its ok to speak right?

  • Can you post the syngery server list .. i would like to see how you were able to get more than 3 PCs working .. im trying to set up 5 PCs .. and i cant seem to get the last 2 working..

  • OMFG there's some retarded comments here... Clearly this guys is showing you what is possible with Synergy, multiple machines and a cross-OS environment. You could never use this as a productive environment, it's just a demo of an extreme situation you idiots.

I already knew about Synergy, and searched for a video to show a buddy. This vid demonstrated what I was trying to explain to him perfectly.

You angry nerd-rage dunces need to gtfo.

  • Dude..... Shit Get A FUCKING LIFE!!

  • INSANE! if i use your workstation probably i'll get lost

but i'm using 1 G4 mac mini, 1 intel mac mini dual dislpay and and a pentium 4 using windows :D

  • shit mousepad.

  • well if he can afford a big system like that... i don't think he really cares about his elc. bill. That's a cool system i have a ASUS motherboard computer with nvidia graphics pci ex. and one monitor lol i had 2 connected, but anyhow i do missed my second monitor.. but its ok... what i want is a Network camera wireless and i can connect them outside my house for security reasons... that would be cool.. cheers!

  • Comment removed

  • @turdshitpenistitty linux is hard to install? not at all...

  • @jaymitchnj nevermind i said that because my first time trying it out, it wouldn't install cause my laptop sucked at the time.

  • Great, you can work faster and get a tan meanwhile.

  • PROMOTE SYNERGY! LIKE A BAWSS

  • That's pretty badass.

  • What about power consumption ??

  • He can replace all his screens with LED monitors which use roughly 75watts to run. That is as much as 1 light bulb. How is that for power consumption?

  • 7*75W+computers~= 1000W. That is as much as a heater.

  • Sorry let me correct myself, roughly a 42 inch LED "TV" (not monitor) would use about 75 watts. However an LED "monitor", such as Samsungs SyncMaster XL2370 23 inch LED Monitor coming out this month, uses about 26watts. So 7 of those would be about 182 watts total which is almost the same amount of power it would take to power two light bulbs. I guess it would be better if power consumption was brought down to 10 watts for all 7 monitors huh?

  • Furthermore, it's not like this costs a whole lot to run anyways. So what's gommodors point? It takes some energy. Yay?

  • Yeah exactly.

  • I would need 4 pairs of eyes and two brains to get full advantage of this configuration.

  • ou yes cracy

  • thats one nice fuckin set up

  • Crazy

  • you could have done so much more with this but instead you say 'let's have some fun' and look at a picture of a tree...not impressed

  • I love your setup, and I really like seeing somebody doing this with more than just two computers.

  • Im sorry but im seriously getting annoyed with the word "Nerd" I just like how that word is used more towards the people that work on computers or like having computers. it just makes the people seem like there nobodys. How about saying to other people hey that person is a Car nerd, or Bike nerd, or Plane nerd etc.... Im not trying to start anything but i think it needs to be realized and put into more consideration that it shouldnt be used mainly towards computer people.

  • The original Synergy was abandoned in 2006. You may be interested to know that the project has been revived as Synergy+ (synergy-plus).

  • nah you haven't got many computers have you? lol

  • i just wanna know how to do it w/ 4 screens.. lets say.. just macs and pcs..

  • all u need is a kmv switch routed to all of ur different monitors and pretty much youre own server. lol

  • I actually think that the three center monitors and the center laptop would do just fine. The other two on the left and the right one is a bit too much hehe. Specially the CRT monitor lol. I bet you just did it for the video, but who am I to judge right? :)

  • dude there is some kid moaning in background! that made this gay

  • congratulations, now ur officially a NERD xD

  • omg !

  • all I have is one word to say NERD

  • U GEEK!

  • Where can I download the software for Mac?

  • Apparently a study was done proving 2 screens+switching is 95% as productive as 4 screens.

    It was obviously wrong.

  • dude, I can't handle the ownage lol

  • lol hahaha same but 3

  • u fully shushed your little baby lololol

  • this should work great at work! i need to run 3 computers with different os across 4 monitors because i'm tired of KVMing and i don't want all the keyboards at work.

  • what could you possibly use all of those computers for?

  • exactly its a waste of energy

  • well with this you can use the best of all operating systems at once without switching between keybaords or restarting your computer , you have to think outside the box:P(woa 13 cents more)

  • And of course, by "the best", you also mean doing that "with the worst". And by the worst, I mean running all these platforms via a mac.

Linux is actually better equipped for such a job. It's scheduler is FAR more customizable than unix's or windows' hybrid kernel.

You could do all this, efficiently, with virtual machines, all on ONE linux :)

Ps: to the owner of the laptop "tilters" aka the mac dummy: WHY DID YOU BUY THAT?!? If you wanted a flatpanel, then GET ONE.

  • cant use windows vista or any 64 bit OS

  • wow

  • Finally got my rig finished. Win XP on the left, dual screen iMac in the middle and Ubuntu 9 on the right.

The only thing to hold people like us back is the fact we only have two eyes and two hands!

    Nice work :-)

  • heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

  • What application did you use to make different desktops on your Mac?

  • lol looks like a control room

and i thought i had many monitors o_O

  • cool, but why is there like a baby crying?

  • The baby is my daughter in the background. You know kids... :/

  • look at all of these computers

looks like some one got allot of money that they don't want

  • so.. so.. booored....... !!!

  • Your a nerd like me! :)

  • Sos un quemado flaco...

  • This such a terribly overkill XD

  • nice

  • geek desk ;] rly ql

  • Hey,

I finally got it working.. I just posted a video response showing how to make it work. Do you use the set up with Spaces now? Do you always have the setup like that or was it a temporary thing?

  • dweeb

  • That is an epic setup

  • What are you using as a stand for your laptops? I am after something much the same.

  • I am using a customized rolling laptop table with the wood top removed and a metal laptop stand in its place. That allows me to have greater vertical articulation of the laptop without risking unexpected tipping. Also, since I attached the laptop stand myself, I was able to turn in 90 degrees, which the stock rolling laptop desk did not allow me to do. I hope this helps.

  • Lol :P.

That will cost a lot of power :P

  • Get it to work on the at pda and ill give you come credit. ;)

    lol

  • i get it work but on Internet Tablet ;]

  • Cool Video! Thanks for some ideas...

  • The center screen and the BOTTOM right screen can´t be windows!

    (I haven´t see any bluescreen ^^)

    But it´s VERY COOL!

  • Haha, I use windows for almost 10 years and had maybe two bluescreens in all that period of time...

  • OMG!!! You are one lucky guy lol that is the sickest set up ever!

  • wow that looks confusing.

  • lol

"Stop telling me... I know where I'm going."

  • Wow, I'm about to have an nerdgasm.

    That's really amazing.

It's amazing what you can do with Synergy nowadays really.

    Thanks for showing me ^_^

  • im about to get a mac book pro. They say its easy to use plus they say i dont have to worry about viruses. for my second OS i cant decide between ubuntu or xp. Im not a gamer, i just like to surf the net a lot, but i want my desktop to have very nice eye candy. Im looking at videos of ubuntu 7.10 which has plenty of eye candy. The thing is, im not familiar w/ ubuntu. How safe is it from viruses? do i have to add an anti-virus as well?

  • No viruses around for Linux. Just a few proof of concepts based on already fixed bugs.

  • There are viruses.

  • I think you mean, no spyware with the macs

  • no spyware but there are viruses

  • Please read the comments. This is not a daily functional setup for me, nor is it a recommended set up. It is only a proof of concept to show what you can do with Synergy.

I spend plenty of time with my kids and wife, and I love them dearly.

  • stop playing with computers and pay attention to your kid

  • lol they're all linux

  • That is just lovely.

Thank you very much for that video. It's very similar setup as pilot trainer's have.

  • debil i kreten

  • lol

  • And where is a fun?

  • i'd rather two or three big screens.

  • pretty stupid you don't just talk.

  • FREAKIN MATRIX STYLE XD XD

  • what the hell are they doing`?

  • great video, i would have never had the resources to try this out for myself but am grateful i was able to experieince it through your video. This is what I find great about YouTube. Thanks Again

  • so whats the point if you can only look at one screen at once? i mean 2-3 for more space on the same computer to do more is good, maybe 2 computers if your doing one major thing and minor on another...

why so many crap os's put linux on all and forget about it. ubuntu is good choice though.

are you tank for the matrix?

  • calm down mate, i imagine he's done it to see if he could. being interested in computers can be a hobby and not all people into that are fat and lazy. Its hardly a environmental hazzard, plus were all going to be dead before something like this effects the planet

  • really cool when you have the cube effect synced with two machines.

  • Okay, I guess since this is the second page of comments, people are commenting without reading the first page. In any case, I did this as a PROOF OF CONCEPT. I don't have my setup like this normally. And there are 5 computers with 7 displays. Anyway, usually, I have no more than 3 computers, and most of the time only two. The only time I ever have three up at the same time is for Cross-Browser testing on Windows, Mac, AND Linux. Thanks for the comments.

    Layta.

  • lol thats cool but whats the point of 7 computers?? i mean havin 2 with one keyboard one mouse is cool but dont really need 7 lol

  • Please man you need to spend some time with your family. I love computers but I love my family more.

Also could you post a video of you doing real work with this setup. Please remember to have balance in your life.

  • that right there, is hardcore my friend, hardcore!

  • haha nice did it take a long time to do that? and u want to give me that mac book? lol

  • ownage

  • congrats, you are a genius!

  • oh well. Just download the software, spend a little time and anyone can do this.

What bothers me is that the wife and kid are just begging for some attention and all the kid gets is an unfriendly shoo... Ouch

  • lol chill dude not everyone is nerd core like u im sure alot of peeps could neva figure this out...

  • @wwwsant The kid shouldn't have been there in the first place while shooting the video. It just makes this whole demo soooo annoying to watch - not to mentiln, LISTEN TO!! Instead of keeping focused on the demo you're constantly annoyde by some "me too"-whining from some kid wanting to be the centre of the universe. What could have been a great presentation became a horible display of parents who wasn't able to keep a child calm for just 5 minutes. Thats just sad! Nice setup though.

  • @beninua It wasn't that bad. What do you think, the mother should have locked the child in closet while they did the video? I mean, really, it is children. Just because they are annoying doesn't mean you chain them in the basement when company comes over.

  • I knew it was possible! thats SOO Awsome. And i think the baby thought so too!

  • what is the virtual desktop software that you are using on the windows xp machine?

  • synergy shares your mouse an keyboard over network so you seamlessly work with one mouse and keyboard on all systems...

  • one word:

omfg, that s got to have cost a fortune!

  • I actually didn't think of how much the set up cost, until you brought it up... hmmm. let me see: 1 PowerBook G4 = $1200 1 HP Pavillion Laptop = $2000 1 Mac Mini + Peripherals = about $800 1 e-machines Desktop ubuntu = $450 1 Compaq Latptop (ubuntu) = about $1400 1 Compaq 17" CRT = $50 1 Sceptre 20.1" display = $275 2 Westinghouse 19" displays = $200 ea. total cost for just hardware = $6575 Not too bad, but this was basically just a proof of concept.
  • Why isn't the PDA hooked in to it?

  • thats awesome.

  • how easy is it to take one of those laptops on the road and then put it back into that setup?

  • I do it all the time. The synergy client just doesn't have a host to connect to at that time, so it just doesn't. When I come back, I am back on my local network, and presto! my lappy is back in the circle - display too.
