The man was a sculpture and smashed it because it was too perfect. Forgive him. There are many artists driven to that emotional state. Its just unfortunate that he acted upon his impulse.
The man was sculpture or sculptor? the man was insane. He was screaming "I am Jesus Christ, risen from the dead" while he lunged a hammer into the Mary's face. Its was never his art to touch in the first place, Michaelangelo would've smashed his face in. Michaelangelo was way too proud of this work, thats why he signed it on the sash. After having his own nose broken before, I know Mike's first instinct would've been to rip that man limb from limb. But at least they were able to repair it.
Michelangelo did not sign his name with pen and ink. He chiseled his name on the sash. Michelangelo was a quiet and petite man who would have cowered to the lunatic.
what kind of idiot are you to bring up pen and ink like I ever suggested that in the first place? "He chiseled his name"... "REALLY? on MARBLE???" thank god you cleared that up, there must've been some Massive confusion for one of us
I'm laughing at the ridiculous argument below. So funny. Should have been a monty python sketch,

you're the one who wrote
"signed" not me

"sign" - to put one's name, can be done by hand writing, engraving imprints or digital copyright confirmation.......
a pen imprints paper as a chisel imprints stone....... all the same...... you fucking ass
Nixel85 3 years ago
A chisel does not make an imprint.

Michelangelo did the same to Moses albeit his own creation.
