turbo neon r/t new motor start up

I didn't swap the srt 2.4. I just used alot of srt parts. The amount spent was more then just the motor. It included suspension too as well as alot of other stuff. The biggest difference between this car and buying an srt was the fact that a stage 3 couldn't even keep up with it.

I didn't realize it was that expensive to swap the srt into the old neon... Should just buy the srt-4. Seems more expensive to do the swap. I just bought my srt for 5000. lol Since it needs repainted, and was sitting in impound for 6 months.

hey man its me again!!!lol anyways im gettin close to doin my swap but i know u will answer my question. did u use a srt ecu or the stock 2.0 ecu? and do u need to do the newer dash harness for the gauges to work and accesories along those lines? thanks man

if you use an srt4 ecu, then you will need the whole dash harness, gauge cluster, engine haness, and a bunch more stuff

how much money am i looking at if i get the same setup as you?..how much was the turbo and how much am i looking for labor with the parts u installed?

@itsusdammit .....just in the turbo/engine setup, there was about $6000 in parts....labor was free on the installation since i did it all myself......to get the block work done, (bored, honed, balanced, and everything) there was another $1200.....suspension, exhaust, lsd, brake lines, wheels, mounts, bushings, fuel system, etc...there was about another $6000.......

@itsusdammit ......i had about 100 hours into the whole install and tune......if i would have takin it to a normal shop, $80 an hour at 100 hours, thats another $8000

dont have the car anymore or any pics. the 2.4 turbo swap is alot more difficult then just putting a turbo on the stock 2.0

another thing is i am going to buy srt4 wheels do i need to change the suspension and stuff for them to fit on my 99 R/T

all you need for the rims to work properly is a set of 205/40-17 tires. stock srt4 tires wont work....otherwise they bolt right up

they are pretty light and if you run a 205/40-17 tire then they are almost exactly the same size as stock. i didnt notice any difference

dude a srt-4 does look better but if i had to pick betweeen a 1st gen 2.4 swap and a srt-4 1st gen all the way.. they weigh like 350 pounds liter too buddy

im with spuds, I have about 4k into my 2.4 98rt including the car and have a good kill list going.click my name to see me race a mild srt if you want. Last good race I had was vs an 03 body style cobra with a 2.8 pulley on 15lbs, we were neck to neck but didnt have much room to go through all the gears. its a different ball game when youre in this little neon and modded cars pass you because they think its nothing until you spool up next to them and theyre like holy shit.

Because an SRT is way more money. For the same amount of money you pay for an SRT you can get way more horse out of a crate 2.2stroker motor with low compression,forged pistons and a hahns 16g turbo and intercooler and get a whole new racing upgrage for everything else and still have money left to pay your insurance. So why would you just buy an SRT???? HMMM??? ANYONE???

Is the 2.2 stroker the stock neon engine modified?

No the 2.2 is a stroker motor, all neons other than the SRT came witha 2.0. What makes it a 2.2 STROKER is the change the length of the stroke of the piston.

Where would one find the 2.2 stroker? (please have pity on the noob (me) for I am a former v8 guy, and I liked the amazing looks of the neon, and the sportiness of it, and best of all I am getting on a bad day 32mpg, good day 36mpg :) my the old v8 pickup I was driving would have been happy to get 20mpg.) i got the turbo off of ebay. its just a stock srt4 turbo. it wont fit on any sohc neons unless you have a special adapter plate made

straight off the srt4 turbo it goes to the srt4 cat. then to the srt4 rear section. no resonators
