  • Great instruction, but one suggestion. In industrial sewing after you have pinned the folded edge over the lap you actually lift upper fabric and sew the rough edge only against the zip. Then you sew the top decorative stitching. Particularly good for jeans.

  • @mbrumpton1

    please further explain this

  • @evefriday I have made an instructions booklet for my students I'll scan the image in and mail it to you tomorrow

  • GOD BLESSS YOU

  • fantastic tutorial, thanks so much!

  • INCREDIBLE! Thank you. This was excellent. I was just about to give up altogether.

  • this waas a HUGE help

  • What a great tutorial! Lapped zippers have always been a bit of a mystery to me, but no longer -- it seems so straightforward now. Thank you!

  • Wow, this was so much clearer than when my teacher explained it. Thanks alot for the vid!

    Peace Out! ^_^

  • very cool video, one of my favourites

  • I am going to try this lapped zipper technique!

  • You answered my zipper prayers, just inserted a zipper using your lap zipper technique and it worked perfectly. Thank you.

  • Thanks for the great video! This made putting in a zipper much easier and it looks nice.

  • Thanks for the great video! It made putting in a zipper much easier.

  • I rarely utilize the basting technique for sewing in a zipper. Most of the time, I utilize small pins to hold the fabric in place and to give me a good indication of measurements for my sewing points without having to utilize tracing paper or light chalk marks (occasionally). However, I will try implement the basting technique above for future zippers. I usually baste at home and finish sewing with a sewing machine at school. All the different techniques are useful.

  • Can you tell me if there's a reason for this zipper as opposed to a railroad zipper? Is there a 'when to use this'?

  • Excellent! Very helpful.

  • Excellent video! I've done lapped zippers (which I prefer to centered) only with flat pieces without rest of seam sewn. Didn't know one could do this until the pattern directions, which were rather unclear, said to do it. This made it totally clear and it came out beautifully! I would advise skipping the tape step, though. Even basting should be enough and the tape is hard to remove. Thanks for the video!

  • Sewing/clothing patterns can be unclear.

  • Thanks for the video. The instructions are very clear.

  • now i noticed she's using light color thread for the sewing too. i assume she's doing this so we can see where and what she's sewing. but in a real project you use matching or dark threads right?

  • That depends on the design!

  • Wow! This was so helpful. I'm actually excited to go home and put a zipper in. Thank you very much!

  • This demo is excellent. Thank you.

  • The Professors voice is pretty and the lighting is good, but she wears too much jewelry. Very professional. Miss you Mimie.

  • Thank you for the perfect video. I've read the instructions on my zipper over and over and have watched several zipper videos before finding yours. Yours was easy to follow and the lapped zipper looks much nicer.

  • This is the best I have seen. Thank you lady for sharing your knowledge with us.

  • She Rocks!!!

  • I don't get it, it looked like she sewed the two parts to meet evenly in the middle at first. did i miss a step?

  • yon need a greater seam allowance.. just put in a invisible zip, its much easier

  • you gotta have the seam allowance first. so she starts with 3/4 inch and shorten one side to 1/4 inch so that the seam 3/4 cover the zip. if you dont have the seam allowance just put in a invisibly zip

  • ok thank you. i dont know why people downgraded my question. i mean... it's a question. >.>

  • Thanks a million for this video.

  • YEY for studio!!!
