My girlfriend can't visit me in the hospital if I get sick because, even though we're engaged, we're not married. I am by no means sterile and plan to have a child later in life, but if something happens to me, my girlfriend can't adopt my child, regardless if she helped raise it.

It does state, however that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Meaning that Congress cannot make a State recognized insertion of religion-in other words there cannot be a ‘Church of America’.

@OneManWolfPak It's not just a piece of paper though. It's the legal rights that come with it. My girlfriend can't visit me in the hospital if I get sick because, even though we're engaged, we're not married. I am by no means sterile and plan to have a child later in life, but if something happens to me, my girlfriend can't adopt my child, regardless if she helped raise it.
Second, I'm not forcing anything down anyone's throat, I'm looking for equal rights, just as interracial couples did.

@Latnii ...i just realised your American...In Canada people only have to live together for two years and the government considers them "common law" and they get the exact same rights as married couples, so gay people dont care about getting married. I do however strongly disagree about your second point, you will never understand this but as a man, having a male playing a male role is crucial to your development. My life wouldnt be worth living if i didnt know how to act like a real man.

Again, no, it's not. I know plenty of people who come from lesbian and single mothered homes who are completely normal. It's not about stereotypes that need male or female conformation in parents. It's about having two people to depend on, not conform too.

To only have one parents bring stress from the angles of money, moments when mommy/daddy isn't there, or just not having company. Single parent homes have more issues with children as they grow up than of gay couples.
