  • great singer great guitarists great bass player great drummer , great song oh and great fiddler

  • Oh does this ring as true as it did way back there. Fairport and Pentangle and Bert J and all of the rest of those who roused the spirit of the earth. So many others came on again to be...

  • Still magical after all this time!

  • timeless

  • LOL...to all of you worried about the time. The louder you play it and the louder you sing the less you worry about things.

    Just play it louder.

  • groovy man.....groovy

  • Loved listening to this from the 60's "S.F." BAY AREA long lost vinyl

Now on the internet.....Lovin It sorry Sandy couldn't see it

  • Still aweful. I only can tell you that after much times listening it's sounds great.

  • liege & lief has to be one of the best albums ever. My copy got all scratched up and keeps skipping :(

  • fairport so magical, such wonderful memories of Cropredy, Rest in peace Sandy, missed by many.

  • After 45 years of collecting, buying and selling records from garage bands to cajun to black gospel quartettes, I have never heard of a group purposely playing out-of-time but I have an open mind. I would be more open to believing that this was an early take and they decided that the looser version was better than a later take but like I said........

  • out of time...

  • @grandemao

It's supposed to sound dumpy, playing out of time adds authenticity and it's very hard to do.

  • @jamboliboli Love this. If I had the album (and I believe I must get it...), this track would quite likely be a favorite. This "dumpy, out of time" piece (deliberately crafted so), and the quirky spirit of it musically, works very well for me.

  • mmasny, apparently to you on the strength of a comment on youtube we have.

  • Wow, this returns many wonderful memories! One of the Great Albums, every piece a gem. It has been a long time coming but now I'm home again.

  • I remember being at University in Cape Town when this was new: strange, wonderful, weird and slightly smoke-tinged days....beards and bellbottoms, Indian shirts and beads. And that was just me..B-) Wonderful album; thanks!

  • My friends we are caught in an age of money making noise that our children, in the facile freedom we have granted them, cannot tell from artistry .

  • @powellallan So true. Though I'm 21, actually, and a lot of my favorite music is, like this, stuff that my parents introduced me to.

  • @powellallan In other words, you've wasted your lives.

  • Somehow this reminds me of "The Wicker Man". Eerie medieval paganistic and somewhat scary, but powerful in delivery.

  • beautiful voice .... sandy..

  • I've been to fairport convention twice, (not that long ago at all) once when I was 14 and the other when I was 15.... now, at the age of 17, listening to all their wonderful music, I feel like I've missed out on so much... I really wish I had lived back in their day. Great music, great culture, spiritual freedom...it seems to be all lost now =/ sorry for the pessimism, but, in a way it's true.

  • awsome song.

  • This song (this band) makes me happy in a way that it impossible to describe.

  • I always think of a Renaissance Fair whenever I hear this song...people dressed in costumes singing and dancing to this...

  • I caught them on one of their first gigs of the 1969 tour, and they opened the set with this one. It's as fresh and invigorating now as it was then. These guys could rock!

  • It's stuck in my head! It hurts so good!

  • yeah, me too haha

  • Thanks for this....lost my copy of the great Liege & Lief album some time ago.

Pleasure to hear again...now firmly in my favourites!

  • This song is so uplifting...is so perfect with a perfect ensemble of musicians...what more can I say? When I think about Fairport I get misty eyed for a long lost period of creativity and fine music.

  • don´t worry, there is still a lot of creative and beautiful music around today.

  • Yes I know. I suppose I was taken aback by the sheer beauty of something I had never encountered before in my youth. A new music to me. It opened up so many doors to so many other paths that sound will take. I think I realized that my ears were more than vibration funnels.

  • I'm really feeling this

  • One of the most apropos album openers.

  • Kickass song, as is the whole CD.

  • I still have this on vinyl and still play it often especially this time of year.

  • @getorphan I too still have the original vinyl, in great condition. The music just gets better with age!
