This is very nice, and if you are into high notes she was wonderful at that. There are even traces of her acting ability showing through here. BUT this is very little compared to what she has been doing from about 2003 and onward. Her 1995 Morgana was, of course, unbelievable, but to my taste (and I think many others') she has become really great as the years have gone on... Uh Oh! I just remembered her album "Mozart Heroines" which was 2000. This at 1990 was an un fully developed Natalie.
I do prefer the freshness and ping of her voice here, although that is a testament to youth as much as technique. The voice is just gorgeous. I think Dessay sacrificed her singing in favor of acting. I assume this is why she developed the polyp. Bravo to her for being such an amazing singer, nonetheless, and for blazing back to form after what had to be a terrifying operation. Singers tremble at the thought of anything that might ruin our chords.

Liège-les-Balloches ? C'est la banlieue de Bruxelles. C'est le trou du cul du bout du monde civilisé. Pas étonnant que Dessay en soit réduite à chanter sur des petites scènes de province avec sa voix qui s'étiole de plus en plus.
Now this is something I like :-)! She's very good here, and I like the lighter quality to her singing. Though I find something alluring in Dessay's voice today, this is the voice I really fell in love with. Plus, I think that she should have sticked with this repetory: here she really shines. I still would like to point out that this is only an opinion of mine :-).
Did anyone think about the fact that she also had a kid, and that can have a big effect on one's voice, not to mention things with the body, such as loss of bone density, new allergies, etc. Not to say that part of the change could have been wear-and-tear on the voice either...
The top notes WERE her calling card..there is no doubt that surgery left her without notes E through A above high C..but let us look at what we have gained..a now lyric-coloratura with a richer sound and EXCEPTIONAL commitment to what ever she sings..i'll take that over meaningless high notes any day...ha...come on isn't the high Eflat she still has really enough.. :)
She's a genious!!!! Incredible. Thanks for posting. Again lol By the way, I need to ask you for two little thingies, coloraturafan. I will send you a message tomorrow ^^
Listen to this! This is when Dessay was the SHIZ!!! The tone is SOO clear and bright here and she really blows me away. Not to mention the effortless high notes that she seems to have lost. This was a fantastic look into what she used to be! Thanks a lot coloraturafan!
Though I do love this, I think Dessay has really gained a lot in her performance, and her lower range has improved leaps and bounds over this. Though, like a lot of seasoned singers, she has lost some of her ability in the top register, her agility is still breathtaking.
I still prefered her ease in the top notes. That was her calling card really. She was basically a light French soprano, and that suited her very well in my opinion.

El mismo problema lo han tenido Caruso, Callas, Di Stefano, Villazón: todos los que han entregado su vida al ARTE.
Para mí, Dessay es una de las mejores sopranos de todos los tiempos y aquí, como en todo, está insuperable!
Brava, Natalie!

On the other hand, I can't say much of the aria. The short allegro section is delightful though, as is Dessay's singing :-)!
