  • Instead of complaining about Dean's latin, just enjoy the show, besides its just acting, this thing doesn't need to be pronunciated correctly, just enought for the show to carry own. Give it a Break, will you?, your fighting for some exorcism when what matters here is the show, and just to be sure, Jensen Ackles is a great actor but he is not perfect, so Shut Up!.

  • what episode was this?

  • Its an enokian exorcism not latin

  • oh come on who gives a horse's ass about their latin accent it is obvious not right but it sounds extra cool for those who never studied latin and i guess we are massive majority... besides who else except italians give emphasis to a dead language?

  • Actually, it's Veni, vidi, vici, and it's handy if your native language has a "cs" - "ch" noise, so it's Vichi. No "k" in it.

  • His latin is no better than english with russian accent...

  • Latin??? please... this fool sounded like me 10 years ago when I first tried to read anything in English... the demon was probably thinking (in latin): WTF are you sayin'?

  • Dean: I usually like to be warned before I am violated with Demon Tongue!

  • This is not latin. its a weird italian latin hybrid language. The ancient Latin language did not have a "ch" sounding letter. the "C" was pronounced as "k"

so, veni vidi vichi is actually supposed to be pronounced:

    Veni, Vidi, Viki.

  • @tharwpoop and in classical latin the v is pronounced like a w. so you are wrong too. Get over it, it is a television show. I'd listen to Jensen Ackles read any kind of latin all day long then ask for seconds! He could be speaking in pig latin and I wouldn't give a shit cause he is hot as hell and supernatural is a fun as hell show.

  • @stocktonwood i wasnt talking about the v or the w. just about the C and Ch pronunciation. I figure if they want to make it sound authentic the least they could do is pronounce a few words correctly. how many people flipped a bitch when Aang, from the last airbender movie was mispronounced?

  • Who have mother tongue Italian, Portuguese, Spanish speaks latin perfectly.

  • I kinda like the english pronounciation...

I'm german, and I learn Latin in school, so I know how to pronounc Latin. But still with the english accent it just sounds cooler :D

  • He is American, it would be unrealistic if he could pronounce Latin perfectly.

  • @TheC1684 Not if you do your fucking job and learn how to pronounce it you fucking idiot.

  • @TheC1684 Such harsh words. I'm sorry you want him to speak Latin so badly that it offends you so. You should probably refer to his Latin coach as the idiot....if you really get that emotional over this sorta stuff.

  • Oh, give poor Dean a break already. Just a tv show. You're ready to eat him. Who says that just because he is an actor and speaks Latin that they have to speak the language perfectly? I say it's really good, so let him be. :)

  • His pronunciation may sound wrong, but it may just be sound like that because you learned the Classical pronunciation. Dean is using Ecclesastical Latin (aka church latin), which makes sense.

Of course, I've never heard Ecclesiastical Latin before this, so this may actually be a bad pronunciation of Ecclesiastical Latin.

  • The worst attept in speaking latin EVER.

  • @flaviothebrazilian You speak it?

  • i'm italian.i study latin andI apologize for my terrible English.

Dean's Latin is terrible, ashamed, studied before and pronunciation is terrible.

What do they teach you in school, studying Latin in high school in Italy is required.

I am ashamed for the pronunciation

  • @MultiCristina81 I...I'm sorry you feel that way?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'what do they teach you in school'? I'm not Dean. I never even took Latin. I have a Latin book that I've skimmed over, but I've never tried it, sooo...

  • @horohorosrin I'm sorry but I do not speak English so it's hard for me to write in English.

I'm Italian and I love the TV series Supernatural, but I think you invented Latin and exorcisms.

They are serious matters related to culture and religion

In Italy, Latin is studied at school and here is pronounced badly.

Laugh if you do not know English or the wrong decision but you kill the Latin pronunciations with these horrendous

  • @MultiCristina81 I'm sorry. :(

  • ATTATAE HERCLE: That was awful!

  • Comment removed

  • For those asking, how it would have finished had he not stopped was:

    Vade, Satana, inventor et magister

    omnis fallaciae, hostis humanae salutis.

    Humiliare sub potenti manu dei,

    contremisce et effuge, invocato a

    nobis sancto et terribili nomine,

    quem inferi tremunt.

  • its bad, but apparently the demon understands it

  • @Plasjif hehehehehehe demonus indicapatus :)

  • mas esse exorcismo é em grego nao latin ooooooooorrrrrr

  • Yes, it pretty bad, but he's just an actor on a TV series. I've heard much worse from Latin professors in England and Rome. In Italy I heard people reading classical Latin poetry using the ecclesiastic pronunciation. Yikes! In Greece, I met people who imposed modern Greek pronunciation onto Homer – it's not even close anymore -- and these same people would try to tell respected ancient Greek scholars that they doing it wrong.

  • Ew, medieval pronunciation. :X

  • O original, publicado no século XVII, exorcismo romano, é este que eu postei abaixo

  • COMEÇO

“Regna terrae, cantate deo, psallite dominio…

    Tribuite virtutem deo.

Exorcizamus te, omnis immundus spiritus, omnis satanica potestas, omnis incuriso infernalis adversarii, omnis legio, omnis congredatio et secta diabolica…

    Ergo…

Perditionis venenum propinare. Vade, satana, inventor et magister omnis fallaciae. Hostis humanae salutis. Humiliare sub potenti manu dei. Contremisce et effuge. Invocato a nobis sancto et terribile nomine. Quem inferi tremunt…

  • Ab insidis diaboli, libera nos, domine. Ut ecclesiam tuam secura tibi facias, libertate servire, te rogamus, audi nos. Ut inimicos sanctae ecclesiae humiliare digneris, to rogamus audi…

Dominicos sanctae ecclesiae, terogamus audi nos, terribilis deus do sanctuario suo deus israhel. Lpse tribuite virtutem et fortitudinem plebi suae, benedictus deus, gloria patri…”

    FIM

  • it's Latin not Italian and hard core Latin is better than church Latin..Sounds better

  • Bastardizing the language for cheap entertainment value. It's right up there with the disco version of Ave Maria. Plus his accent is crappy.

  • @acuriousbeast oh fuk off, i bet if he did the exorcism in english im sure, "u" wouldnt say shit , it doesnt fukn matter either way , its just a language !

  • @nat11223344 Since I'm a Catholic who attends Mass using Latin and since Exorcism is a ritual of the Church (in either language) I probably would have. I take exception to seeing aspects of my Faith being ridiculed and bastardized for others amusement just like Native Americans are sick of seeing white people taking made up tribal names and claiming themselves shaman. So now it's your turn to fuck off, asshole.

  • @acuriousbeast: exorcism is practiced in almost every religion. So don't get pissed off. Anyway it's nonsense, because exorcisms are just hollow rituals which do not solve anything. Not strange, since possessions are nonsense as well. It's all crap just like the pronunciation of this actor and his acting skills.

  • @Leviwosc I was in a snit that day. His acting skills seemed okay. My Latin pronunciation is horrible so I really didn't have much room to talk.

  • @MLC192 This is from a TV Show called Supernatural

  • he makes latin hot

  • i usually like to be warned before being violated with demon tongue

  • holy fuck i havent seen this episode, what is it called ?

  • @jimmyswwf Crossroad Blues. It's really good ^_^

  • wow...*melts*

  • That sound so sexy..........

  • @TheAmor5612 hell no it sounds horrible, the accent is all wrong

  • im sold on learning Latin

  • i dont know any latin :(

  • i feel guilty because i find this so sexy.

  • sounds gross with english accent. sry dudes. the german voice actors make perfect.

  • Am I allowed to find this hot? >>

Not the kiss, the exorcism. Jensen Ackles could read me a phone book and I'd go crazy.

  • @queenchimes77

    The Vatican speaks Latin

  • I'd like some demon tongue. ;)

  • @queenchimes77

you're wrong buddy. do your research

  • Latin language sounds strange when is speaked by a english speakers...

  • @PerseusHeros English sounds strange when spoken by whatever you are.

  • @PerseusHeros Being a Hispanic American Altar Boy, I'm always showing off my fluent Latin pronounciation to my comrades who have so much trouble with their thick English accents! (One of them pronounces "mulieribus" as "muli-le-le-bus" lol =)

  • hahahaha.... an English-speaker won't never be able to pronounce well Latin.

  • huh i thought this is wrong isnt that the right ? :

    exorcizamus te omnis immundus

    spiritus omnis satanica potestas

    omnis incursio infernalis adversarii

    omnis congregatio et secta diabolica

    ergo draco maledicte

Ut ecclesiam tuam secura tibi facias

libertate servire te rogamus audi nos.

  • Gringo pronunciation, sounds so stupid when pronouncing the dental T's. (not just in Latin, in all the romance languages too.)

  • EL DIABLO! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

  • WOAH WAS I THE ONLY ONE THAT HEARD THE BITCH HISS?

  • Isn't he Hooot when he speak Latin ? (:

  • Strong accent

  • "Kingdoms of the earth, sing to God, praise the Lord who you place in heaven above to the East. Behold! He will give his voice, the voice of virtue. Attribute the virtue to God. God of heaven, God of the earth, humbly we supplicate to your glorious majesty so that from every power of the infernal spirits, from their vicegrip, deception and wickedness we may be liberated, Lord.

Flee, Satan, inventor and teacher of all lies, enemy of human health. Humiliate yourself before God's powerful hand."

  • so hot

  • is this a movie?

  • @philippusII nah, its a episode from the series Supernatural:)

  • shitty english accent

  • i find his voice SEXY! espicailly when he's speaking in latin! ^^

  • @TheKiamster I noticed that people with English as their first language have atrocious Latin accents. Should I mention Hollywood flicks where characters who are not even supposed to know english speak Latin with a heavy English accent and nobody seems to notice?

  • Latin is easy to learn because it is so close to the English language. However, no one I talk to speaks Latin, therefore I care not to learn it. Lol. It's known as the dead language, of course.

  • @TheShortGirl90 From what I know, Latin really close to French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese not English. I don't know why we like to say that English came from Latin.

  • @Boneyman Half of the words come from Latin.

  • @Boneyman because ALL languages came from latin *puppyface*

well... actually you can recognise many words from English!

  • @bellaKohler i'd hardly say that all languages stemmed from latin. english has latin roots, but it's actually a germanic language. latin was the basis of all of today's romantic languages, such as french, spanish, italian etc.... but there are hundreds of different language families, many of which don't relate to latin at all.

  • @Boneyman well, at school they taught me that in England they spoke french and latin before Chaucer...and then he "created" middle english...which is a mix of neo-latin languages and germanic ones...in fact, in english you can say "freedom" which comes from germanic languages, but you can also say "liberty" which comes from latin =) so that's why english is ALSO a neo-latin language!

  • @AnathemaGothica Chaucer was the first person to establish English as a legitimate language for literary writing (as French and Latin were the two scholarly languages use by the upper class), but he was born almost 3 centuries after the birth of Middle English. When the Normans invaded England in 1066, the incoming French mixed with the native language (what we now call Old English) and created Middle English. English a Germanic language with a heavy French influence, not a romance language.

  • @kash1123 Yes, you're right! I was just trying to explain why some people say that English is a romance language...because it has, like you said, a heavy french influence! But I perfectly know it's a Germanic language...maybe I didn't explain it really well XD Sorry for that but I'm not English =)

  • @AnathemaGothica

    I fucking *facepalm* your ignorance

  • @Shyuum what?

  • @TheShortGirl90

    how do i learn????

  • @hackingtime88 Take a class....I guess. I haven't taken Latin so I don't know.

  • @ordinaryman1982 I presume you know what the Romans sounded like when they spoke?

  • @102LBC It's not dead, it's immortal! :D I learn it in school...just because it isn't usually spoken does not mean it is dead. It's fun!

  • terrible accent

  • It isn't used anymore, that doesn't mean It cannot be learned. There are grammar books, syntax books and the vocabulary as well as original latin texts available. Plus it is taught at schools, at least in my country. Same thing with ancient Greek.

  • @tsimos4eva Whooo! I'm a Latin scholar! I learn it at school...and I'm good at it! It's the best language ever...everyone should learn it. MAYBE not as useful as Spanish, but heaps more entertaining

  • @GuitaRocker2 I hear you man, it fascinates me too!

  • i agree and he's getting words wrong

  • @ordinaryman1982

he's american! what would you expect? ghandi?

  • @yapyyapo that;s gandhi.

  • Regna terrae, cantate Deo, psallite Domino qui fertis super caelum caeli ad Orientem Ecce dabit voci Suae vocem virtutis, tribuite virtutem Deo. Deus caeli, Deus terrae, humiliter majestati gloriae Tuae supplicamus ut ab omni infernalium spirituum potestate, laqueo, deceptione et nequitia, omnis fallaciae, libera nos, Domine.

Vade, Satana, inventor et magister omnis fallaciae, hostis humanae salutis. Humiliare sub potenti manu dei,

  • @shandreez lo siento pero yo no hablo latino, yo hablo solo ingles y un poco espaniol, que significa este latino en ingles?

  • @shandreez Kingdoms of the earth, sing ye to God, sing praises to the heaven of heavens, the Lord, who are carrying on the East Behold He will give his voice the voice of power, Ascribe ye the power of God. God of heaven, God of earth, the glory of Thy Majesty and humbly supplicamus infernal spirits from all that power, the snare, deception and wickedness, all deceit, deliver us, O Lord.

Go, Satan, inventor and master of all deceit, enemy of man's salvation. Humble thyself under the mighty

  • @actor109 hand of god

  • Stulti estis...linguam latinam non bene fundent....ego linguam latinam melior loquo

  • I also know latin marcus brutus caecarem occidit! famina marcum brutum videt. mater lupa nunquam est. lol

  • Magnus carmen!

  • Latin est a mortuus lingua. Haud causa oro is.

  • his accent is atrocious.

  • Oh my god is he sexy speaking a different language. and for the record, no one knows the accent for Latin cause it's a dead language anyway. and if you do know, who cares? it's a dead language.

  • Actually, Latin doesn't have an accent. The mistake they're doing is they're talking Medieval Latin. There's a moment when Sam says Spiritus Vitae or something like that. He's says Vitae met a V not with a W like it's said in Classical Latin.

  • well thank you. you proved my point. :)

  • I just get annoyed by it and than the fault of the accent? I mean, back in those days, there were a lot of accents in Latium (It's the place where Latin started) and the villages near it. And I don't even begin with Italy!

  • lol i'm sorry for people and their faults of latin. :)

  • To bad people just don't think. Maybe it's because the Classical Latin isn't a popular in America than it is in Europe.

  • do you live in europe? cause i can tell you right now, it will always be infinitely better than america. in every way. :)

  • It isn't better in America and it isn't better in Europe, at some things America is better and the same goes for Europe. I mean: America doesn't have so many languages as Europe does. I already learn to speak three languages: Dutch, French and English and I'm just in my second year of high school. Europe is the best place to learn languages. Ofcourse it's hard, but I think it forces people to learn from young age. America is THE place for technology.

  • i'm not a fan of america. sorry. what you say is true, but i really can't wait to leave this country.

  • If you're going to leave America, where are you going to go?

  • Scotland. I know it's not practical, but I have always loved Scotland and it puts me at peace. Where are you?

  • Belguim, it's close

  • cool. i've always wanted to go to belgium, too. ever see In Bruges?

  • Yeah, but Bruges itself isn't that fun.

  • Well cause Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes aren't running around as hitmen. lol but i didn't expect it to be.

  • Before the movie I hated Bruges pretty much. Go to Antwerp.

  • hahaha i will. thanks.

  • OMGAWD I want to kiss the demond tooooo!

  • what tv show or movie is this?

  • it's Supernatural, a CW' tv show

  • thanks

  • Ok this is now 2009 I don't care how he pronounces Latin he just sounds HOT no EXTREMELY HOT speaking it because it is in a different language be happy with his Spanish that he speaks on Supernatural at least he pronounces the words right!!!

  • Jeezus, his accent is atrocious. Check this link to hear perfect latin chanting: watch?v=rd4aD47Qbm8

As for normal casual latin, ask any romanian (who did at least 1 hour of latin ar school) to read a latin text. That's preety much how it used to sound.

  • my comment was in response to mario54671, btw :).

  • English as in the country or just the language?

  • Actually, the Romans tended to use the verb "sum" in between the two parts since otherwise it is difficult to tell what is what, for instance, if you say ab = cd, but are trying to do abcd =, it's difficult to say what is equal to what (it could be interpreted as abc = d, or a = bcd), and since they are in the same form (nominative unless you are saying "crēdo virum esse stultum", where you use the infinitive and both vir and stultus are in the accusative.

  • Order doesn't matter all that much. I mean, all of the subject has to be together, and the separate parts of the same preposition have to be together, but otherwise, it's not too big of a deal.

  • can anybody write the words in latin dean says???

    plzzzzzzz!

  • Technically, today, there is no accent though :P. Nobody knows how the Romans actually spoke it since there are no native speakers of Latin, there aren't any Romans to show us how it's REALLY spoken without an accent.

  • Right. Even Classical Latin, while more in accordance with "true" Latin, was not how it would have been spoken by a commoner. By the time of the Empire, Cicero's Latin was likely unused except by members of the upper class, or by bards/storytellers reciting poetry or literary pieces. The actual spoken language was what is known as "Vulgar Latin". The manner of speaking would have depended on the province, just like people have varying regional slang and methods of pronunciation nowadays.

  • Ahh well that makes sense. But still, they didn't speak freakin Medieval or Church Latin! I hate that stuff...

But so you're saying Caesar spoke Classical Latin then? Like when he said "Veni Vidi Vici" he said "Weni Widi Wiki"?

  • Caesar wasn't one of the Optimates, but he still was an educated patrician. Nonetheless, he was raised in Subura, apparently a rather salacious neighborhood, which is why some of the elite looked down on Caesar. My guess is he spoke as one of the patricians would, but who knows?

  • Hmm..well Vulgar Latin some of the words are different aren't they? Like instead of equus being a horse it's caballus. And Bucca is mouth I think instead of cheek. Makes sense, since that's where Spanish gets "boca" and "caballo" from.

  • He is doing a kind of exorcism and that´s the reason his pronunciation is medieval. All that stuff is a church invention; ancient romans did not have it.

  • The pronunciation is not an "invention". It's the way the language naturally evolved after the Classical era.

  • When I said "invention", I was meaning the exorcism. I agree with your point.

  • @mjbalbo that's latin not medieval pronunciation lol

  • nasty accent though

  • Credo latin est lingua fascismus-Ave kaisar et

lictores etruscae? No debit a latinist will chide.

  • Lol "You know I usually like to be warm before I'm violated with demon tongue" XD

  • More people speak Latin today than everybody in the entire Roman empire...and all the medical terms, they're straight up Latin. Gluteus Maximus, that's Latin. That's why cactus or fungus both become cacti and fungi, English used the Latin rule of the -us words, when there's more than one, they become -i. And a lot of the words that end in tion or ion, they're most likely Latin words, just take off the letter n, and that's the word in Latin. Segregatio, revolutio, even constipatio.

  • Ughhh I HATE church/medieval Latin! It sounds too...Italian. Classical Latin ftw!

  • There was a film all in Latin by Derek Jarman (with English subtitles). It was called Sebastiane.

  • In support of Latin.

People who would find latin useful. Doctors, gardeners, scientists, linguists, lawyers, writers, archaeologists, zoologists, vets.Latin words are still used a lot in those fields. Latin has a precise grammatical structure which is signalled clearly by tenses and endings and structuresof nouns and verbs . Once you know this you can more easily know and understand the grammatical structure of english and other european languages and it makes learning languages easier.

  • is it weird that this really turns me on?

and as for people who think he speaks to much with an english accent, i would really love to hear your perfect latin accents considering it's an ancient language that hasn't been spoken in god knows how long

  • oh no not stupid! me too hehehe! Yumm for that

  • Horribile auditu...

  • pathetic his attemp to speak latin with english accent.

  • Latin is, for me, the strongest language ever. This stupid white boy just made it queer...

  • who cares about the pronunciation(sp) it's sexy as eff....

  • ... the hell?

I thought ae's were supposed to be pronounced as "eye", not "ay" like he's saying them.

He needs to do some more research first before trying something like this...

  • you realize that there is no proper accent in latin anymore...there are no more native speakers

  • Yeah, I wish there was. Latin's a cool language and I'm so curious to what the proper accent sounds like.

  • ok hotttt :P !!! lol

  • I wish Latinum was still a language, not that it isn't, but like used as much as Spanish, English, Italian..you know. It's really dumb though when people say it's a dead language and it really isn't!

  • His pronouncing is terrible >.>

  • way too much english accent

  • He's pronouncing it like they would if you were in a Latin class over in Italy. That's all :)

That's the same system I learned, but that's because the text I used was Italian LOL.

  • yes, you might, it helps you in english, other languages, etc. both my brother and cousin took it and said it helped them a lot.

  • umm..yaa you will...some people will. you're very ignorant.

  • This is not true latin due to the fact that when listening you can clearly hear the pronounciation of the letter V which is pronounced as a W in latin also all C's are pronunced as K's which is also not shown in this video

However the words are actually latin just not all pronounced corectly

  • It's the newer Latin..yeah I hate it, too. In medieval times they made V a letter, since V and U were like...the same letter, although V was more like a W when it was at the beginning of the word or in between two vowels. But yeah, I hate it when people pronounce V. But his Latin is the church Latin, where they made C like Italian, where Ce or Ci would be "Che" or "Chi", even Cae would be "Che". Which is why they have Iulius "Chesar". or "Pater noster qui es in "chelis".

  • If you speak english, french, romainian, spanish or any of the "romantic" languages having an understanding of latin alows you to better understand more complex words and understand your language better

  • It's also useful for exorcising demons..........

  • i supose that is true
