  • @8:49 HAHA, what confidence, ahh Gene, you were so terrific.

  • Siskel disliked Scarface and Pacino's performance? Wow. Just wow.

  • This clip makes me miss Gene Siskel.

  • Scarface is one of the bets movies ever, disagree totally with Siskel here. Showing evil is interesting in itself, everybody is fascinated why some people are like this in the world.

  • Boy I have to admit Siskel was kinda douchey in the 80's.

  • Siskel and Ebert's two thumbs down for Mickey's Christmas Carol is a classic disconnect between their points-of-view and my point-of-view. I guess I'm unfairly biased by the fact that I saw this many times as a child around Christmastime, and that it holds a certain sentimental value to me despite the fact that it may do absolutely nothing for such seasoned movie critics as Siskel and Ebert. Looking at how they review it, though, I can agree with them on some of the negative aspects of it.

  • How does someone get their own TV show when they can't even grasp the basic point of Scarface? He's "boring" because his life and morals are empty because all he cares about is himself. The one time in the movie his character is dynamic is when he refuses to kill the family. Ironically, that leads to his downfall. I don't see how Siskel could've missed that.

  • There are real problems with scarface....terrible accents, crappy cinematography, annoying over blown music...but siskel's criticism was retarded. What's interesting in this movie is that tony's one virtuous act leads to his downfall.

  • siskle said scarface was boring that yentl movie was the real snooze here fuck this guy

  • Ebert should of have bitched slapped Siskel for dogging Scarface.

  • Ebert is actually totally right this time. why do characters in movies have to be redeemable? the point is that you can build an empire out of shit, but in the end, its still shit!

  • @NotNamedJones

And boy does Charles Ferguson's Inside Job ram that truth home! I think Chris Hitchens puts it most succinctly when he says there's a real difference between those who just make money, and those who actually earn it.

  • wow now i know when siskel started making no sense. My personal fafourite is his rewiev of jurassic park lost world

  • FUCK Siskel. He is a CAWK sucker! How DARE he give a thumbs down Christmas Carol! It's 25 minutes! You dumb prick! Holy shit. What a chode.

  • @TheDVDReview

Undoubtedly the most hilarious spelling of 'cock' I've ever seen. Bravo.

  • ok, this finally confirmed that siskel doesnt know what he is talking about. tony montana boring..........wtf???? hes one of the most carefully crafted, emblematic, interesting, entertaining characters in movie history. Hes a tough, streetwise individual with an unwaivaring determination to accomplish greatness. that may not sound very original, but its the way his character goes about this that makes his character so great.

  • Ebert talks about Mickey at 5:50 Hilarius

  • Pacino himself felt Scarface was his best

  • "The established drug dealing establishment"

    LOL, nice roger.

  • He bashes scarface and smiles turns his head and starts talking about mickey mouse like he was waiting all day to do it.

  • Hooowaaahh!!

  • Funny enough, they're both right. That said, I liked Scarface.

  • I love the way Ebert says so what

  • scarface was just hirrible every character was completly flat... the scribt was a joke and the movie was constantly trying to make me care for a very dumb selfish junkie

cant really see why peoble like it so much

  • @thesatanic6 . i disagree that every character was "flat".

  • @SparksDrinker

when i say flat i mean 2 sided and pachino said it himself that he was trying to make tony like that

  • @thesatanic6 . but you said that EVERY character was flat. do you really believe that?

  • @SparksDrinker

pachino was the main focus in the movie there warnt really any scenes without him the movie was very simple and streight forward

i dont really belive that any other character had a time to shine you only saw then interacting with montana so yeah in a way but there could have been something behind the scenes

  • @thesatanic6 Hirrible? Is that a combo of terrible and horrible?

  • I agree with Ebert all the way.

  • SAY HELLO TO MY little friend

  • Michelle Pfeiffer play a total boring chick in Scarface. Who the hell would marry her? Skinny doll who couldn´t smile.

  • Oh Siskel...so wrong, so many times. It's a great story, with a great main character.

  • May I just say, I REALLY love it when they argue.

  • 'It's more interesting when a guy is good at the beginning and then becomes bad at the end." ---Bit of dialogue from their conversation here

I couldn't agree more. That's why to me historical characters like Benedict Arnold are often more fascinating than, say, Abraham Lincoln or (the other extreme) Joseph Stalin.

  • Man, Siskel's a douche. Gave Mickey's Christmas Carol a thumbs down! WTF?!

  • @F1315NJ and ferris bueller's day off

  • @F1315NJ I'll bet he didn't even hold back tears during the Tiny Tim death scene. I always do.

  • Pacino was born to be Scarface !

  • How in God's name is Scarface not available on Blu Ray? According to Wikipedia, Universal doesn't even have any plan to release it on Blu Ray.

  • Why don't Disney create a Mickey movie today?

  • Disney wasn't doing too good at this time. Most of their releases of this era were flops ! They were even making alot of PG rated movies then. They didn't really have another hit again until six years in the future with The Little Mermaid.

  • " The MPAA wanted to rate this movie X because of the violence " .. Hell, wasn't it the same story with The Wild Bunch 15 years earlier ?

  • Good Movie or Bad Movie, Scarfase from 1983 is now part of Cinema History!

  • Why did Dad make me watch a Disney Christmas Carole every damn Christmas?

  • Scarface was incredibly entertaining. What the hell was Siskel talking about?

  • Gene Siskel's face at 10:36 is classic. I agree with Roger Ebert on it. I think Scarface is a great movie.

  • Scarface is a Classic..I love this movie

  • How the fuck can he compare Scarface with The Godfather??? Comparing them just because they are in the same genre is ridiculous...

  • They both have Pacino and they're both incredibly popular so comparisons are inevitable

  • @DeathWarrant90 The Godfather was a serious, restrained, realistic film, with terrific direction and cinematography.

Scarface was an over the top cartoon, with stereotyped, ham-fisted performances, muddled direction,

    and juvenille dialogue.

And let's face it, you can't compare Loggia to Brando, and Bauer to Caan.

  • @wheelinthesky300 well, then I'd like to mention Sergio Leone's Once Upon A Time In America..which I find better than the Godfather-movies

  • @DeathWarrant90 Spot on! Once Upon a Time in America is one of the best in History!

  • Scarface would have been nothing w/out Pacino

  • I totally agree! Another actor playing Tony Montana would never work!

  • Sylvester Stallone would have done a better job

  • @vmo87 Sly might have been interesting in the Steven Bauer role, that would have been a more powerhouse tandem with Pacino, but I don't think Stallone has ever played a foreigner.

  • haha i can't believe ppl actually thought that I was making a serious statement about Sly being better then Pacino ......Pacino is one my all time fav actor guys......I guess its difficult to sell sarcasm on the internet

  • @vmo87 You forgot to lol on your 1st statement which explains why your punchline didn't make a KO.

    -R78

  • I think that Siskel and Ebert aren't giving a fair review of "Mickey's Christmas Carol". They're judging it based on what it could've been and not what it is. Sure it doesn't present "Mickey's version" of the classic tale, but overall it's a cute adaptation that will satisfy Disney fans regardless of how the story is presented.

  • it was before the word remake invented.

  • I loved Mickey's Christmas Carol as a kid. Scrooge McDuck is awesome!

  • how DARE these two shun Mickey!

  • Ebert was practically alone among mainstream critics in his appreciation of Scarface. Time has proven him right.

  • Mickey's Christmas Carol deserved the thumb down... to sad for kids

  • I disagree, Mickey's Christmas Carol is very uplifting in the end. I had a very low tolerance for sad or scary as a kid and I liked it then.

  • there's alot of "children's" material that is sad

  • I thought this movie was good though now overrated. I thought both of them were going to hate the film. I guess I was half right.

  • I don't agree AT ALL with Siskel. You can't even compare Scarface with The Godfather.Scarface-''a bad guy that is worse at the end'' plus Tony is a street thug. The Godfather-a story about Mafia wars. Can't even compare those movies

  • The only bad thing about Mickey's Christmas Carol is that 2 film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert are the only major film critics in America who did not recommend Mickey's Christmas Carol(1983).

  • Well... It was a terrible film.

  • Yesh , I never knew these guys hated Mickey's Christmas Carol that much.

  • Scarface is one of my favourites. I think one can easily be turned off by all the violence and swearing, but I disagree with Siskel and his views that Tony Montana is a boring character.

  • siskel is an ass

  • I saw Scarface in the theatres in 1983...and though I thought it was "worth seeing," I really didn't l ike it that much.

It was until 3 or 4 years later--after seeing it on video a few times--that I realized how good it was. It had a lot more violence and profanity than movies generally had back then, and I think that a lot of people couldn't really "see" the movie through that. Back then, IMO, it took a few viewings for many people to come to appreciate it.

  • Oh please what are you some christian fanatic. Anybody who uses the kind of violence shown in horror movies doesnt do it because of what they saw, they do it because their psychologically disturbed.

  • Cult Classic!

  • Boy was Siskel wrong about Scarface. The cult status of Scarface has grown ever since it's release and hasn't stopped yet.

Pacino's great, the music is superb 80's stuff, the colors are flashy and 80's too and the cinematography is (at some points) of the highest level. Can't wait for this to appear on Blu Ray.

  • I don't blame him for hating it. It's challenging but it's is a good movie although not for all tastes but a solid film nonetheless.

  • i dont understand what all the fuss was about with the violence in scarface. All the horror films at the time where much much much worse than anything in the film. At least scarface was entertaining.

  • Scarface is very much overrated. The music is laughably bad, and aside from Pacino, the acting is weak.

  • I thought the music fit in with the time its from, sure its a bit dated but it so adds the theme of 80s decadence. I also like the very moody main theme and think it serves the movie much better than a orchestral theme ever would. Although I have to say that there are much better films out there.

  • your an idiot the music is great, the acting is great for the most part especially pacino and loggia.its finally getting the attention and praise it deserved and there are far far more violent movies

  • How dare Siskel give thumbs down to Mickey's Christmas Carol! Sure it's not great, but it's still a decent Disney classic even if Mickey wasn't in the movie much.

  • I'm not board with Siskel I think Pacino isn't boring I just think the movie is a 1 trick pony, guy makes money guy dies, watch him spend the money. (POINTLESS) the performance is the only thing that makes Scarface memorable, pretty simple, at least for my taste but I don't knock people that like it I just happen to not. I might watch it if it were on TV but probably never ever buy it. Carrie rips off Psycho and Deliverance. De Palma is a hack with the fortune of good casting always.

  • i think i must be the only guy my age who doesn't think scareface is the greatest film of all time. It's an ok film with great quotable lines.

  • shame on you. you watched that movie just because kids your age like it and admire it for all the WRONG reasons. It's not the greatest, but among them.Watch it again and pay attention to the soundtrack, cinematography and acting

  • i have seen it and it's just an ok film.

  • i think brain de palma is bad director but i have to admit scarface was very powerful it also contained lots of style which is de palmas specialty. his only specialty. it was a great movie though. certainly de palmas best

  • this and the untoachables are his only really "great" films... imo

  • Pacino´s hammy as hell in SCARFACE...that does not mean his performance is very FUN to watch it, though.

  • Comment removed

  • Ummm, does Ebert know that Scrooge McDuck is the star of the movie and NOT Donald Duck???

  • I'm with Siskel on this one, Pacino's acting in this is on a level of Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest. However, The Godfather is an awesome movie.
