  • Someone be an overacheiver and tab this on ultimate guitar, i didn't get this guys e-mail response

  • Just wanted to drop you a quick thank you! I broke it in to two halves and learned it over 2 days. Thanks again, much appreciated!

  • do you think you could tab this on ultimateguitar?

  • @jtdbso1 No, sorry. But follow the links in my video description and you can download my tab.

  • Very nice lesson

  • This is a great camera view for learning. You don't play too fast either. Plus the songs not fast anyway. Thanks for this lesson. For guitarists who are still getting strength in fingers while bending strings and learning, it's best just to play what this man is teaching and run it up an down the neck and practice bending in a lot of places figuring out what sounds good. Hold bends to. If ya mess up some where, who cares just keep practicing. Callouses are great.

  • great video,

  • hey, i signed up but didn't get the tab. can you send it? thanks

  • nice job man, i love when i come across a great lesson. keep it up; definatly one of the best ive heard. took me all of 8 minutes to learn the entire solo. your camera work was perfectly focused i didnt even need the step by step, i just transcibed off your fingers on the first run

  • tabs of verse. you know?

  • Great Lesson.

After watching your lesson I used Transcribe to slow down the solo and practice.

I'll attach the slowed down solo as a video response so other people can use it too.

    Thanks for the lesson!

  • @hdscoot69 and thank you for the slowed down solo, between that and the lesson it's a piece of cake to learn

  • Slow down

  • Muito foda!!! Mas um dia eu chego lá..

  • YOu go way to fast in some parts bro.

  • You and I are alot alike. I kid you not, I learned this solo by ear until right when all those pull offs happen really fast. I got on here to see if I could find a vid to help me with that section, and I kid you not, I had the exact same thing you had. I was like whoa I got it right lol. Good vid! For all others who want to learn this, I don't recommend it for beginners. It is a VERY difficult song. Believe it or not, I think the solo is the easiest part. ONLY FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS!!! ITS HARD!!!

  • Thanks a TON for taking the time to create this. When I do manage to find some time to play, it's great to find a video like this where I can sit down and learn the the solo to a favorite song in just a few minutes.

Great teaching style and tone and again, THANK YOU! We're all in your debt!

  • ako nana imong kamot brad beh!

  • @emailroy2002 di pwede

  • it's more hard to play the intro...

  • on measure 4 you went a little too fast dude you didn't even explain

  • may i ask what your set up is?? also great vids i subbed and am lookin forward to more tutorials, great man!

  • @KLBRECH1 I'm using a PRS CE24 and a Line 6 Flextone amp.

  • i signed up fpr the book i didnt get any tabs

  • Perfect Perfomance!!!

  • I learned this solo by ear when I was 11 years-old....it's very interesting, but I never really looked at it like a penatonic lick...but you're right, it Totally is...

  • MAN, thank you for this. Perfect breakdown.

  • e major and e minor Aeolian Pentatonic scale

  • great lesson ty

  • i'm a guitar noob, and even with close to zero experience, i instinctively make sex faces and shake my head during the slow bends.

    this is baby making music

  • u make alotta good videos especially for us beginner guitar players but i was wondering next time can u slow it down just a little bit more because at the solo at the end u kinda rushed it and i couldnt understand thankx anyway

  • This video is intended for intermediate and advanced level players. I have easier songs I recommend you work on first.

  • thank u u should give me some songs to learn i already learned most of your beginner songs so anything new please let me know thank u

  • I learned to play this riff from you about 6months ago and have gotten pretty darn good at it! By far still the best lesson on here for this solo Ive seen yet!! Thanx Bro!!!

  • i just started to learn this last week. i checked out guitar tabs first but the tab is up and down the neck, it's a pentatonic scale and this dude keeps were it should be. you're right best lesson, only thing is I wish I could slow it down a bit, i'm not as fast as i used to be cause of tendon damage in my fret hand.

  • holy shit there are a bunch of jerks on the intertubes. dude nice rendition of pearl jam. found it useful. everyone is a rock star on the internets apparently. i wouldn't let the rif raf bother you man.

    rock on

  • thanks for the lesson man. the internets full of picky basterds and 12 year old know-it-alls so just ignore them and they go away... eventually.

  • Would you be able to post your tabs some where?

  • "Yellow Ledbetter" by Pearl Jam.

  • Hey i have a little question about techinque, do you block strings with your right hand when you do solo like this? Thanks to your lesson i play it nice but sometimes when i do this big bends, other strings are ringin and it doesnt sound well ;(

  • Most of the blocking is done with the left hand. I bend with my middle and ring fingers. My thumb and index wrap around and mute the other strings.

  • Thanks for the answer! Ive seen people blocking with right hand, and it was very hard to achieve for me, so its nice to see that it can be played awesome your way too. thx again

  • what string your using n gauge?thnx buddy

  • 9s or 10s.

  • man i have learned alot off of ur videos. i got a request. i'm dying to learn the solo 4 slow ride. can u help me out?

  • Sorry, don't have that one.

  • ey man do you have that solo from the acoustic version.

  • i wish u would slow down measure 4 and a little bit. other than that awsome. 5 stars

  • By far the best how to on how to play this solo..thank you. What is the setup your playing on?

  • Line 6 Flextone. One of the high gain settings.

  • Man this is an awesome lesson! Thanx 4 sharing with us!

  • This is very cool, thanks for sharing, greetings from Argentina!

  • i had recently joined a band and after learning this from ur video we got a standing ovation on this song on our first gig! Thanks and keep em comin!

  • Nice. Thanks for sharing.

  • The major and minor pentatonic scale patterns are identical. The tonality is determined by the root. This song is in the key of E major and everything revolves around the root chord E. The E note is functioning as the root in the pentatonic scale too (second note of pattern 1). If the scale were to be minor, then the C# note would be functioning as the root (first note pattern of 1) but it's not.

  • Is there anyway you could post a video where you slow down mesaure 4 and 5?

  • No, sorry. But you can follow the instructions in the video description to get the tab.

  • Hey its cool, I actually just watched the video over and over and over again. I cant feel my fingers now, but I finally got it. Thanks and great vid.

  • this is great but like every note you played is from minor pentatonic hahaha.

  • From the teachers I've seen, the chords using the warpped thumb technique (a la Jimi hendrix) free up the pink y and allow embelishment. It is also what you are comfortable with when you are playing. There is no right or wrong way to use your fingers/thumb. If it sounds good and makes you feel good, then its all good. Peace

  • ya um wat are u talkin bout the thumb is suppose to be wrapped around the neck

  • All great rock guitar players wrap their thumbs around the neck. What are these "experienced teachers" teaching you to play?

  • its also alot easier to bend notes with your thumb wrapped

  • this guy is obviously a dick look at the way he is talking to that guy

  • That thumb in the middle of the neck thing comes from classical guitar. Many purveyors of classical technique will tell you that one shouldn't see the thumb when watching someone playing. While it does lend to speed and longer stretches across the fretboard, I feel less in control that way... except when barring or fingering on the lower strings. Also, classical players play while sitting, try keeping you thumb back there while romping around a stage with your ax slung around your neck!!!

  • This is a feel issue for me. You lose the thumb, you lose the feel. All these speed player's remove the thumb and are amazing technique wize but don't get anywhere near the feel of a nicely played solo with the thumb over the top for the bend's and vibrato. This is just my opinion :)

  • Yea, some real lousy guitarist had that same bad habit, jimi hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

  • Mmm, jellis0318, and you're saying...?

This is something i am well aware of. Maybe you should reread my first post. I'm not the one criticizing the video. Dork!

  • i never suggested you were criticizing the video...I was pointing out that your imperious proselytizing was misguided, coupled with the fact that your head is clearly stuck in a dark and smelly space.

  • Again, maybe you should try reading my post aloud to yourself to help in comprehending what I said. But in case you can't see due to your own ass wrapped head... I DO play with my thumb wrapped around the neck!!! I hug it just as your head is wrapped in ass. Please great one, tell me how I'm misguided! Have you studied classical technique? I have. Have you never watched classical players play? COMPREHEND before you spew your obvious "lack of understanding" point of view. Dipshit

  • Ha! i was thinking it and iwas literally about to write it but you beat me to it.

  • Dude your thumb position is wrong by the way. When you do scales, you gotta put your thumb right in the middle of the neck, vertical with it as well.

Just letting you know that the Hitchiker thumb position is ok for some chords but NOT for scales.

Anyway, that's just my bit that I learned from some experienced teachers. Otherwise, cool lesson though you should really do correct thumb position for scales.

  • No it isn't, for proof see Gilmore, May, Knopfler,Slash, Hendrix,Moore, Carlos and to get mildly controversial...Clapton :) I'm not tryin to be cocky here, it's just my opinion that although it does open door's to speed and scales etc, as soon as the thumb isn't over the top the feeling goes.

  • yeah ur right... he cant put the thumb like ur profs said....... he sucks...... -.-

get a life......he's playing the solo very well and it sounds awsome... when u get to play like him u can come here and talk trash about what ur exoeruenced music teacher said

  • That step and a half bend around 7:15 is up to the 4th of the major scale is it not?

  • Yep.

  • what overdrie is this sucha a clean tone

  • awsome lesson thanks man

  • great lesson! Very well done!

  • Man, all the tabs I've seen make this out to be a lot harder than it really is... they all call for higher frets when it's really just going up and down a pentatonic scale within the same 6 or so frets...

  • been try to learn this since long time...u got it right ...anyways thnkx man...ure cool

  • This really makes me wish my amp worked... freaking input slot broke off need to buy a new one... =( then soder it back on

  • Hey, nobody cares.

  • hey, don't be a dick

  • shit man thanks a lot

  • Man, thanks you SOOO much

  • omfg this is so awseom im crying xDD

    sorry im a german =P

  • Germans cry?...lol just joking

  • =D

    this is fucking awesome

    so why wondering xDD

  • great video. u took it nice and slow.. it was easy to follow along dude.. and this song is great

  • hey come see my how to videos and subscribe

  • This is amazing! Thanks!

  • What kinda amp are you using?

  • Line 6 Flextone.

  • woooooo ha thats asome

  • awesome job man!

  • great job

  • What are the 5 patterns in the pentatonic scale. Can each pattern be played anywhere on the fret?

  • look up the five pentatonic boxes, its the same thing

  • mince...

    you are an ass sir,.

    good day.

  • Is that not just the relative minor or E major?

  • good lesson man, your guirar sounds very rich, what kind of pickups do you use??

  • I'm playing a Paul Reed Smith CE24 with some type of Dragon pickups.

  • awsome! what scale is solo in?

  • e major pentatonic nevermind

  • hah why dont you use your pinky

  • Don't need to for this one. I try not to crowd things up with too many fingers. My hands take up enough space as it is!

  • Aawesome lesson, thank you :)

  • this is hard, no matter what. you just have to practice.thats it.

  • DAMN, thanks to your video I learned the solo!!!thanks alot man

  • this is a great video to learn the solo to

  • argh wtf. I don't get it. Give me tabs or something >: (

  • I give away free tab to website visitors who sign up for a free preview of my book, Fretboard Theory. A link is in the video description.

  • You got it! It's one of the best slow motion lessons for begginers & "I don't know what i'm doing" person like me :)

  • thanks man, amazing lesson

  • thanks

  • you are a really great teacher..the best on youtube!

  • about 6 months ago I picked up a guitar, I learned the solo very fast and only about 1 month ago have I learned the whole song. Largely thanks to you! I posted about 5 months ago about this, thanks alot!

  • very very helpful for an intermediate guitarist. thanks.

  • this is the intro or the solo ?

  • solo

  • awesome thank you soooo much!

  • Thanks for taking the time to show this solo. Now I can play the whole song!!!

  • Hey could you tell me what kind of an effect pedal you use to get that violin like sound? Thanks,

  • Awesome!!

  • thanks man

    really helped

  • This owns, thanks alot man.

  • awesome lesson..thanks man..i love pearl jam

  • damn atleast i got the first riff down lol

  • thank u very much.

  • You're a god. I FINALLY learned the beginning of the song but the videos on here aren't great for teaching the solo, and most of the tab is average. Seriously man, thanks. I'm so glad you put this up. I'm gonna learn the shit outta this!! Thanks again.

  • Great video! I'll maybe try to get to work on this in a few years. Lol. Picked up a guitar about, eh, 3 weeks ago. My main goal: Play this song. All-Favorite. Thanks!

  • I'm 6 months into playing and learned it. Honestly man, the tab is more intimidating to look at, than it is to play. Learn some scales first, but I guarantee you'll be playing it sooner than you think. Especially with a true desire to play it.

  • he's right, it looks and sounds hard but he's just copying the hendrix style of keeping your hand in one position and just playing around with the pinkie.

  • Dude, he's not even using his pinkie.

  • i was talking about the song itself not the solo, but yeah youre right
