  • Thumbs up if your a Buckeye!

  • Thumbs up if you thought the lyrics were, " Hey, you Stupid, stupid in a hole'' or something like that

  • Thumbs up if you thought the lyrics were "Hang on Snoopy" when you first heard this song.

  • Remember going to my dad's when I was 3 yrs. old and begging him to play this on his juke box for me!! Somehow even at that age I could relate to this song!! Thanks for the great memories!!

  • @soberatlast1- you're very welcome!

  • In the 1960's I was the base Disc Jockey at Orlando AFB. This was one of the most requested songs...there was a girl we used to cal SLOOPY....she was real nice looking and a great dancer...whereever you are Sloopy - hope you are well - thanks for the memories...........

  • thanks for uploading the real lyirics,, are grade 7 music teacher wouldnt let us listen 2 this version

  • It would be another 35 years or so before I was born, but this song is far-and-away better than any of the songs of "my generation" (the '90s, 2000s). Kinda sad, really, 'cause the music is only getting worse...

  • Everyone on the floor!

  • Thanks for uploading the original version

  • @231152johny- you are very welcome!

  • Thanks for posting the longer version!

  • @mammothman53- you're very welcome!

  • I thought they sang "and everybody HERE tries to put my Sloopy down"

  • I love the 2nd verse of this song! I always feel like I'm the only one who knows about it, even among the people I know who were around then. I don't understand why this version isn't commonplace now, it doesn't make it *that* much longer.

  • I mean, I know it was cut due to time constraints, but once radio stations stopped caring about that, it should have come right back as the standard version.

  • Saw them at the national Guard Armory is south St. Petersburg, Fl. about '65 or '66 they were very good.

  • Derringer not his real last name... born and raised 20 miles from Neil Armstrong god you have to love ohio..... btw "Ricky don't loose that number " was about him.....

  • THE O-H-I-O STATE BUCKEYES # 1 FOREVER

  • I wore this 45 out when I was a kid. When I got older I suddenly realized the last verse describes an intense love scene climaxing with the AHHHH scream. That was a day of awakening.

  • What a huge, huge song this was in 65.. .WLS Chicago played this constantly. What great memories...I was a HS senior. Love to go back...just for..... a little while !!

  • Je to NÁDHERNÉ ...

  • Great Rock and Roll that was American ..Not British...

  • M-I-C-H-I-G-A-N GO WOLVERINES!!!!!!

  • these boys r from ohio

  • Awesome song... but one question. What is the guy saying from 1:15 to 1:20?

  • @SpiderWick12 Rick's saying, "Sloopy wears a red dress, yeah, as old as the hills."

  • @2madlia2 Yes, and then he sings...You know when she wears that red dress...It gives me the chills...what a great line!

  • this great little band went on to back both JOHNNY WINTER and EDGAR WINTER. They did go on to have a cool life in the hard rock of the 70's and 80's

  • Ha ! I was 14 in 1965 we use to ride our sting-ray's around Old South Omaha and watch and listen to all the garage bands pump out this tune all summer. What a great time to have been growing up..

  • How old was rick derringer at this time?

    he looks like a teenager

  • @Freyja1133- Rick was born in 1947 so at this time he was around 18.

  • I don't know why my local radio station doesn't play this version of this song. It's less than 4 min long. Also the lyrics posted here lacks the second verse.

  • Great LP. Need to get a new copy sometime. I see that is 180. Nice post.

  • @NcicHit2- thanks for stopping by! Ron

  • Great LP. Rick Derringer on guitar after name change.

  • May have already looked into McMcoys history by now, but Rick Derringer who wrote Rock & Roll Hoochie Coo later in the 70's, was the main guitarist in this band.

Jimmy Page never played with these guys unless he was an uncredited session musician. He was pretty well known by this time so I doubt it.

However he was a member of the Yardbirds along with other notables as Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton.

Don't mean to sound like a know it all.., I'm just full of all kinds of useless information. ;-)

  • The chord changes and the basic beat and notes are the same as many songs including Righteous bROTHERS 'YOUVE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING" where instead of yah yah yah counter point they sang bABY BABY BABY counterpoint, SUMMER NIGHTS FROM gREASE ETC

  • Thanks Ron for sharing never heard this version before. Didn't Jimmy Page play on this track?

  • @kiwigirl49 - I'm not sure but...I don't think so. This is an American group from Ohio. Ron

  • @kiwigirl49 I don't know about Jimmy Page but Rick Derringer was in this band.

  • @kiwigirl49 he did with one of his bands "the yardbirds" :D

  • @kiwigirl49 Rick Derringer, then known by his real name Rick Zehringer, played the guitar for that.

  • Yeah , the McCoys are from Ohio, Rick derringer is from the dayton area. Thats why the Ohio State Buckeyes adopted this song !!!!!

  • just a bit more to get you really in the mood for REunion 40 yr!!!

  • :01-:25

Wow it's been what - about 44 years? - since I last saw that goofy album cover in a store. Was a kid then, thought it was "hang on Snoopy" when first heard it. Didn't get the sexual angle of the final verses at that time! Later I knew Rick Derringer as an awesome guitarist who tore it up with Johnny Winter.

  • O - H - I - O!!!!!!! GO BUCKEYES!!!!!

  • @MrTwatmasterfleX YOU KNOW THATS RIGHT BOO YAH

  • Ledge vid!

  • Who is the lead singer in the pictures in this video?

  • All I have to say is O-H-I-O! Saw Rick do this last night and he ROCKED it!!!

  • Thanks for the HQ-audio

  • @mkkess- you are very welcome! Ron

  • The McCoys' drummer did not actually play on this track. It was, in fact, the legendary Bernard "Pretty" Purdie (uncredited, as usual). After numerous takes, Producer Wes Farrell told Purdie, "Not crude enough. I want you to sound like a 15 year-old white kid". Purdie did 5 more takes that were deemed "too good" before he suggested that Farrell tie one arm behind his back. The next take was the one you hear on record.

  • Wasn't Rick Derringer in this band?

  • @nakohead415- he sure was! He's singing lead on this song! Ron

  • Great slide show....high quality....looove this song....this was back in my runnings!!!!

    Kudo's for a great job!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Krazy4birds -thanks so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Ron

  • @rwells47 Hey Ron, thanks for another great one... never knew Rick Derringer was the lead singer for these guys. Still one of my all-time favorites from this era. Sweet, simple, yet powerful, the way it builds to that great crescendo - and love that guitar solo from RD!

  • @stan33man- you are very welcome! Ron

  • Great audio quality! Love the slideshow. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • @girlgeniusNYC-you are very welcome! Ron

  • i wanna sing this on american idol... lol thatd be awesome

  • I thought it was an Ohio group?

  • Were they an Irish Band?

  • @bazooka7979- no, the band was from Indiana, USA! Ron

  • Love it . Still think it would have been better had it have been "hang on snoopy" though . To me it would have sounded better than "sloopy"

  • The Late Great Randy Jo Hobbs on Bass...

  • yeahhhhhhh

  • What a classic ! But who is sloopy ?

  • @aharperable The story goes: Betty Sloop (an Ohio piano player) was playing a gig in New Orleans where she was down on her luck. She met two guys from Cincinnati Ohio (the McCoys?) who told her to "hang on sloopy" Thus the song hook

  • @aharperable he is the dog on Charlie Brown

  • @bookmdano Thats Snoopy...
