@blueunicorno8 it isn't a sequel. It was remade with Patrick Stewart in the role of Captain Ahab. Peck agreed to do this short preformance as Father Mapple. All in all it is a pretty good movie
O W Was a master as G P. I cant compare the two with any fairness. That said in my taste O W Was more believable in every thing he did... more real. In the original he also played Bildad the co owner of the pequad. I had to look at the credits to make sure. He was that good...
"Peck does a very fine job, but Orson Wells' performance is trandscendant."
Just the opposite, personally. Welles was a genius but Peck's Mapple here is superior. In fact I'd've thought Peck incapable of such a performance, short though it is.

Absolutely sub par to Orson Welles rendition. Orson was perfect. This was awful compared to him. It was painful to watch especially since Peck was in the original movie.
I remember watching this when it first aired and being skepical about a re-make of Moby Dick. This early scene, and what followed, won me immediately, and there were so many memorable scenes to follow.
Perhaps not as well as Welles, but this was the last thing Peck ever did and will hopefully be remember along with a fantastic career.

Sorry, compared to the original Welles version this this one is sluggish and monotonous. Not nearly the dynamic range of Welles; too much growling.

he's gone full circle.

Too much brimestone for the character FAther Mapple. Still, what an amazing actor.

Absolutely NOTHING like the one and one only REAL performance from Orson Welles.

A six minute performance by a legendary actor... winner of a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actor as Father Mapple.
