There's too much talent everywhere else on the field (RB's, WR's OL, DL) for PSU not to have a least a good season. I'm hoping for 10-2 (regular season obviously). I think we can win one of the "Big Three" coming up this season. Hey...Purdue beat OSU last season, it happens. Personally, I want hawkeye blood. I'd like to at least give Bama a game too, but the cards are stacked against PSU pretty well there. If we win less than 9 games I will be really disappointed...
@rteishe I don't see a 10-2 season or anything near that, the defense and the offense seem to struggle at key moments despite flashes of brilliance. Regardless, I think we do beat the teams we're supposed to, I say we take out Kent State 32-10, for example. Consider 2010 a learning experience for Bolden, 2011 should be amazing.
@BassAssassin9 When I wrote that, it was before all hell broke loose. By time Penn State got pantsed by Houston I was too worn out from everything else to even be upset. After all that happened late in the year, I can honestly say I'd gladly trade 2011 for 2003.
Yeah I guess that's pretty much true. We spanked a team that took the SEC's precious war-eagle to 2 OT in Florida. Plus we beat LSU in the Capital One Bowl. I'm happy with that. I'm glad that DC got a signature win too, I always thought he was a really good QB for us, but he had alot of haters. Now if only we would start Bolden this upcoming season....oh well. Maybe Newsome will shore-up his cuts & throwing motions. He better hand onto the ball too. Only two weeks away! Can't wait.
This turned out to be our best win of 2009 if you factor in team quality and margin of victory. Penn State destroyed Northwestern by pulling away in the second half to make it 34-13 (could have been 41-13 had we not put the backups in midway through the 4th). People have compared the 2009 Lions to the 2006 Lions, but although the 2006 Lions were underrated, PSU did not humiliate any quality (8 wins or better) teams in 2006 like we did Northwestern and Temple in 2009.
10-2 (or 11-3) is great actually. it's a very hard feat to accomplish. True, we lost the two big ones. I really wish this current psu team could play the current iowa squad. You can't tell me we wouldn't destroy them (we spank Northwestern at northwestern, NWU beats iowa at iowa, Iowa puts up 12 at home against a super-depleted Minnesota, barely fends off MSU at the last second...we beat MSU 42-14, etc).
In any case, 10-2 is nothing to bum to hard over. On to the bowl game!
But then again, the only good teams we had beaten before the bowl season were Temple and Northwestern. But if PSU wins the Capital One Bowl, it'll silence critics.
Well, we can finish the Big Ten #3 (tied for second technically) if we beat Michigan State on Saturday. But at this point the season is still a failure. To me, two things make a season a success.
1. Win at least ten games (including the bowl game, meaning 10-3 or better).
2. Beat Ohio State
Hopefully next year JoePa can make me eat my words about how he's been unable to win either a big game or a small game following a big game lately. At least we can still finish 11-2 (6-2), which is ok.
