I love this video even though it does have a cruel streak in it. I think the little chicken looks amazingly adorable!!! She is just doing the little dance when they scratch and dig for food. My girls do it all day long. My hens even come up and do it on my clothes, the scratch and dig dance. I just call it dancing. When they do it I tell them, "oh you dance so pretty"! Chickens are great!
Maybe it's a metaphor for Stroszek himself? He's this immigrant forced to eternally endure this American dance until he dies. Very tragic but strangely amusing. Satire at its finest.

No hotplates were ever used for these I.Q. Zoo animals. They were trained to use instinctive acts different than nature. The rabbit pulls the swich as a wild rabbit pulls strips of bark for nestmaking. (Casino rabbit does the same to spin the wheel.) The chicken scratches on the bare platform out of superstition to get a food reward. In the training farm, corn feed was glued to the platform, gradually reduced. Search I.Q. Zoo for info on how some of these machines worked with the animals.
@TurinAramaiaChannel I knew it couldn't be a hot plate or electric shock, because even though it's just a chicken, there's plenty of room for it to just stand in a corner or back in its room.
Sorry guys im kinda lost here, yeah i know he wants to commit suicide, but what's the point of activating all those machines with the animals and stuff before killing himself? Help me out here guys.
It's a metaphor. At the beginning of the movie, when he's being released from prison, he has an exit interview with the warden, and he says "it all goes round in circles." The warden tries to convince him it doesn't.... but at the end, everything literally DOES 'go round in circles'.
@ATRJ Some of the animals are being submitted to painful stimuli to get them to do their tricks to get their reward. The chicken is dancing on a hot plate, or a plate that shocks it a bit ( we discussed this in German film class this semester). Bruno feels like these animals I guess.
So what would you rather... the Islamic dream which is to kill all Americans? If you think America is so twisted why don’t you just go live somewhere else?
@stigler30 Hey dude... what the fuck is your problem? You must be a butfucking liberal huh? DONT mess with me you little fucking leach. People like YOU will put people lik eme down UNTIL you NEED us to defend your puny fucking little ass then you go run and hide and ask us to do the nasty for you. You have no fucking right to tell ME to "get the fuck out" you jackwaggon!!!

definetly one of the best endings to a film ever but i cant enjoy it as much since i found out that they were burning the chickens feet to get it to dance.
I would like to know what the music is playing over the top- I feel like I recognize it...
The chicken does look as though it was been trained, its a simple repetitive task,
and it's exhibiting generic scratching behavior, when the music stops it probably receives a food reward. hahaha what a funny way to live for a chicken
They have one of these in San Marcus Tx. lol..You drop in the quater, chiken walks up and plucks this rubber thingy, feed pours into this lil tray, and they do their stuff. :)I forgot the name of the park, but ive been to it twice, and stayed in the hotel there the 2nd time for my cousin's graduation @ Texas State Uni.
herzog does most definitely rule. in a class by himself. or more like in a dimension by himself. he's got like eleven third eyes and he never blinks. and then, besides his ability to see everything, his mental filter is so fine tuned; as if the information is being sifted so thoroughly that only the purest perceptions come through. then you add in his craft. i just got home from watching his new movie "Encounters At The End Of The World." what can you say?... herzog rules. beautiful film-maker.
My uncle saw a child street peddler in Tijuana Mexico do this. The kid was trying to make money form American tourists by making the chicken appear to be dancing to music, when in fact, there was a heater coil underneath it's feet.
Elvis Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker started life as a circus entertainer. His 'act' was a group of dancing chickens: a trick the animal-loving Colonel pulled off by putting said chickens on a hot plate. Colonel Parker was reputed to treat Elvis himself not much better than he did his chickens

Poor Chicken the only reason its "dancing" is because its on a hot plate and its burning its feet.

thanks for telling me about it

naaaahhh ofcourse not...
first: i can easily get OFF the "electric hot plate".
second: if it would hurt the chicken it would never pull the rope again to start the music. Trial an error...
