Ever hear of a Horizontal + VERTICAL splitter ? LOL what you TWO are doing I can do by myself,.. Faster, with less effort and its SAFER.. but to each his own. In fact Ive split bigger diameter OAK than that. I rolled the round over , dropped it IN, and came down vertical. piece of cake. And the smaller pieces you then to horizontally, Why bend down so much ? Way too much work.
@humblewizard Horizontal is Certainly not intended for big Rounds like that. Most newer log splitters, have 2 positions with a pin, and if its balanced correctly you can change from Horizontal to vertical and back, without help . You guys are going to get hurt doing what you are doing in that video. That 150-200 lb round comes down on a finger what do you think will happen ? Invest in a good splitter and dont lift into horizontal anything heavier than like 70 lbs. Even thats too heavy.
I heat two homes, the domestic hot water and 70ft lap pool all with an external wood boiler. I've had this splitter for 11 years and I'm burning 12 cords of wood per year. I don't think the splitter has ever been any risk. Probably our scariest moments involve getting those big rounds onto our F250. Some times they don't stay put and come back after us.
@humblewizard Ok, well then you know what you are doing.. As long as you stay safe.
I dont burn nearly as much as you guys, only about 4 cords a year. But I did very well this fall with getting FREE firewood . We had a lot of storms here. My 20 foot dump Trailer has been working overtime for sure. Thinking about selling some as I just have way too much, but for me thats only about 25 cords.
I know the felling the tree I took down was 42 in across and I cut them into pucks at 18 in thick, it took 4 of us the move them and we cut them with saws then split them...

I used a chain saw. My 32" blade in theory can cut a 62" diameter log.

Sorry to be so stupid. Why do they even bother to make the horizontal splitters?

If you had a nice cold beer afterwards - it was well deserved! Those are some nice rounds! Would love to get my hands on some of those here in Texas!
