  • This music makes me want to take over the world!

    ...Or at least invade Poland.

  • it's speeded up or sth? I heard this in much slower version

  • NES verison is also great.

  • Does anyone have a copy to sell? I'd love to play this classic. Better than all this Call Of Doody crap they're shoving down our throats today. C64 is the best!

  • This song represents how I feel after fapping.

  • One of the best game music ever created. Add an ZX's "Overlander" and "Silkworm" to it and you've almost heard it all. Absolutely marvellous.

    Nostalgia? -sniff- Maybe...

  • Remember, folks... Wotok has no brain!

  • I LOVED this game. I have not played it in 15 years because my C64 went dead. I've beat it many times. If you wait it out, all your ships became nuclear powered and I didn't need to keep relaying ships anymore stopping off at planets to get there, I could go straight to the enemy homeworld in one shot. Because the ships were called "Battle...1" or something, I changed the ship names to "Bat21", "Bat 22", "Bat23", etc, like the Gene Hackman movie.

  • I want this game! looks like the first space empire simulator, awesome

  • youtube.com/watch?v=8l1YWXrGjyA&NR=1 :)

  • i was born in wrong generation

  • yeah I remember playing this game... the intro rocks too bad Muse stole the rift in their song Hysteria... if you don't believe me go to the official video on Youtube and fast forward to 2:45

  • It's easy to beat Rorn, I havent played it in years, so my names may be wrong! Just keep a few planets alive - forest (4xplant machines, 1xmining machine) for cash on 40% tax (with a pop of the max), a few volcanics for fuel and just take over their planets one at a time. Dead easy - Years ago I beat him many times.

  • Being the composer of this tune, I can tell you it should be played @ 50 herz PAL instread of 60 herz NTSC... ;-)

    But thanks for uploading... (!)

    Cheers,

    //Jeroen Tel.

  • That be the word of God. 'Nuff said.

  • @freejaytea man, you are the best! I listen to this track once every week since about 15 years!

  • @gatzarang That means a lot to me !

  • @freejaytea I love you, now if you make an orchestral version then I would create a religion in your name.

  • @freejaytea Hats off. Amazing work! Thsi tune still sends a tingle down the spine every time I hear it.

  • @freejaytea I think it's one of those tunes (Skate Or Die and Cybernoid being others) that sound good in 50 or 60 Hz, even if it sounds a bit different.

  • @freejaytea Oh my god, I'm talking to god.

  • I remember this tune quite a bit slower than this but nevertheless the C64 version beats all the others. For example: Amiga music always sounds like a cheap MIDI-Soundcard to me. Just no comparison to the fantastic sound of the SID. Thanks for the video!

  • beated first three enemies, but I couldnt the last one.. maybe I start again to play this game, awesome , tnx :)

  • @damirzs I beat Rorn only once, but I sure enjoyed it.

  • I love c64 music but I've never heard this one before and damn does it rock!

  • One of THE best pieces of music to come from the c64s SID chip!

  • JT FTW.. although I admire Galway's + Follins work as much.. everyone goes on about hubbard.. yer he did some nice tunes, but so did OTHERS..

  • Agreed. For example I would mention the late Richard Joseph and thank him for the excellent music of Barbarian among other tunes.

Btw, this version seemed to me a bit fast paced. It is probably caused by the different screen refresh rate (60Hz vs 50Hz) that was used to synch the music.

  • Was so much better on the Amiga, where it was called Supremacy, the music for the Amiga version remains to this day one of my all time favourite game soundtracks.

  • Supremacy is the European name of the game. In North America all versions are called Overlord.

  • @BoingotheClown Never understood why do Americans love making up new titles, like in the case of "Another World" when they renamed it to "Out of this World" :) Anyway Supremacy is awesome, too bad I suck at strategy games :D

  • Overlord for NES actually has a different song than this, whereas Supremacy for NES has this song (so I refer to this song as Supremacy and the other as Overlord)

I recommend checking it out if you can find it. It's a little harder to track down, but I think it's better than Supremacy... it is my ALL-TIME FAVORITE song of any video game I have heard

A friend and I back in high school listened to Overlord for about 3 hours it's so awesome (since .sid files follow D.S. al coda like a game would)

  • This is simply amazing. Could anyone please direct me towards the other versions of this song? It's such a shame this is so unknown...

  • sorry this is playing at NTSC speed 60Hz - it needs slowing down, or just use PAL 50Hz version of Supremacy.. :)

  • too fast

  • Overlord was one of the last games I ever bought for my C64, as it got into the habit of overheating and freezing not very long after. The opening credits for this game did make for a fine sendoff, as I was pleasantly shocked at what magic the programmers were able to squeeze out of that little box . Thanks for the fond memories!

  • Sounds like it's played way too fast. Amiga version sounded better.

  • That's the tempo it came out of my C-64 at. I always found the Amiga version slow and plodding by comparison.

It may be possible that it is an artifact of the fact the game originated in Europe and the internal timers may differ.

  • I just loaded my version of the game. It's called "Supremacy", played on a german C64. I compared it to the SID-file downloaded from the HVSC. They sound the same, so it seems to be a difference between "Supremacy" and "Overlord" or a timing problem.

  • It could be the simple difference in clock frequencies.

If I remember correctly, electrical current cycles at 50 Hz in Europe, while it is cycled at 60 Hz here in North America. If the clock speed of the computer is generated based on the AC frequency, then that would account for the difference in speed.

Like I said, the music was recorded directly from my Commodore 64, and that was the speed it came out at.

I have another C64, but its SID chip is fried, so I can't test with it.

  • Personally however, I like the faster tempo.

  • if you like this, check out machinae supremacys Sidology 2 - Trinity...its a band from sweden and in this specific track they play old commodore 64 game tracks, including this very one :)

  • Sounds a bit like Jurgen Vries' "The Theme" :). Awesome sound nonetheless...

  • This sounds slightly better than XMPlay's emulation of the SID...still an awesome song! PWNZ

  • Win! With the C64 on the Virtual Console, I bet this game will come soon as well. This song wins!

  • Commenting at the request of Boingo himself!

And I now agree, that is an awesome song.
