  • The greatest actress of her generation. Thanks for this post. I think of Ms. Page once a week at least and marvel at her talent to do what she did to our souls.

  • Easily the best movie and the best ending to anything I have ever had the privilege of watching. Its so poetically beautiful its crazy.

  • Queenie, we will always and forever love you!

  • Beautiful.

  • What one see`s here W/Geraldine Page is NOT acting, but peeping through a window oe keyhole of two REAL live`s...NO ACTING ! I was 16 yr,`s old when I 1st saw this on TV & was NEVER the same. I have it on VHS,Now I look for it on DVD ??

  • The ending of this film made me as misty eyed as all my readings of the book ever did. beautiful acting and cinematography. Now I have to dig out the book and read it yet again.

  • The greatest English speaking actress of her generation--Geraldine Page. Thanks for this post. I have seen every movie she ever made. When I watch her I am stunned at her brilliant acting. What a great talent. She gave the world so much.

  • Even though I enjoyed this greatly, the one with Patty Duke and Piper Laurie, I must admit, is so much better. I love Geraldine Page, she play's this parts so well, but the other one, was, I'm glad to say, was really so much better.

  • @macarthur261 -- We'll agree to disagree. ;)

  • @erp65 I watch your favorite over, and I do admit it is REALLY nice, maybe even much more believable (ok, it is) but I just love Patti Duke. The kite flying scene is like watching a home movie. I also concur G.P. is one of the greatest actresses of her time. "As for me, I could leave the world with today in my eyes", is this not the most beautiful line ever said in a movie? Ok, you have won me over, you sly fox! Sorry, I've always wanted to sat that)I loved her in.

  • @macarthur261 -- Hahaha. How utterly charming! Yes, yes, few of us can resist the power of Page. Happiest of new years to you. --Ep

  • @macarthur261 there is nothing like the original, with the narration by Truman Capote himself, and the true to HIS MEMORY telling of this touching story. The Patty Duke version has a lot of some one else's memories added to it. The original is a true classic, and part of my Christmas memories

  • @evensteven08035 I agree with you so much...either way, as you say, these are all part of one's memories...I remember dragging our tree home with my two smaller brothers, munching those Christmas ribbon candies, that were red, green and yellow. And by the time you got home, your finger and thumb were stuck together...Those are some of my memories....What about you??

  • @macarthur261 No, I disagree. Geraldine Page shines so brightly here and was the choice to play it by Mr. Capote. Cheers!

  • Perfect!

I typed 'Geraldine Page' into the search bar, and this came up. Thank you so much for making it available.

  • Page is an unceasing miracle. No many how many times you see this, you'll never "get" it all. And the boy is so wonderful as well. What a crime they don't broadcast this every year.

Thank you so much for posting this.

  • I can't thank you enough for this touching upload. Happy holidays.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. The gentle heartfelt simplicity makes me long for the time when we all agreed that being with people we care about was more important than a pile of presents.

  • I thought the one with Patti Duke was a treasure, I see now where she drew her inspriation. Great work.....Thank you for posting all six posts of it.

  • wow truman left us with so much....

  • I am speechless! This is a treasure! Ms. Page is a truly wonderful actress and the work of Mr. Capote is really timeless classic, indeed!

  • Thank you sooooo much for uploading this--one of my favorites and I had not seen it in years until tonight. <3

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Page is wonderful, Capote's prose is heartbreaking.

  • This is wonderful. ....It brings to my mind the stories my mamma and grandma told me of their lives, while growing up in the south. Brought a tear to my eye too!! Thank you.

  • I can't believe this is the same woman who plays the uptight, materialistic woman from Woody Allen's Interiors.

  • @septip123 -- Geraldine Page, one of the greatest actors of her generation (or any generation).

  • have never seen such a beautiful clip love the short story thanks to my english teacher i found a treasured clip tht wiilll always be in my heart

  • A timeless classic! One of the best and one of my favorites!

  • i love this so much. thank for posting this

  • I never get tired of seeing this clip from the movie. Beautiful? That word does not come close to describe it. Thank you again, erp65, for this post.

  • @necktieguy1 -- Yes, the throat chokes every time.

  • Just brilliant. One of my fondest memories of childhood was watching this on tv. So stupid that they never show it anymore.

  • Very nice! Thank you for sharing!

  • Imagine Geraldine Page, 'the greatest actress of the last century, cast in Truman Capote,s finest work and you have "A Christmas Memory".

  • That's it in a (chest)nut shell.

  • THANK YOU

  • i watched this movie in class. and cried at the end /: but it was good!!

  • Never a dry eye in my household. ;)

  • Thank you for posting this. I have not seen this movie in a long time. It is truly oe of my favorite Christmas movies growing up in the rural south with my grandmother as my best friend.

  • beautiful, and such a gentle little tale. I got the book from amazon. about 2 weeks ago maybe...its only about 30 pages! lol...but a lovely surprise...i shall be waiting on "IN COLD BLOOD" next :D

  • If you look around you can find it on Ebay, or if you look hard, somewhere more obscure on the net. I just bought a DVD transfer on Ebay for $30. Hadn't seen the whole thing, but it was so worth it. It's in color. Very touching story.

  • Yeah, and isn't Amazon selling the original color version of this?

  • No, when I checked two weeks ago, Amazon listed it as out of print. There's a newer version available with Patty Duke, that I'm not interested in. Maybe it's something about my love for old cinemathography, obscure things, and also Capotes narration. The 1960's version can be found, mostly on VHS if you spend some time looking.

  • Thank you, erp65. As a young man I saw this and its impact has never left me. A beautiful story, brilliantly performed by the greatest English speaking actress of her day. Thanks for this!

  • @necktieguy1 I agree 100% GERALDINE PAGE IS THE GREATEST ACTRESS! My all time favorite. I treasure my copy of this movie! the Patty Duke one is nowhere near as good....

  • Hi MikeysGayToday, Thanks for your comment. I have never stopped loving Geraldine Page--ever since I was a boy. How did you get a decent (?) copy of this movie? VHS or DVD? I have a really bad print of this on VHS and I put up with it just because of this beautiful story. Best to you. necktieguy1

  • I came across my VHS at a tiny little video store in West Hollywood. I don't know if my copy is any better then yours, If i can make a copy of it, i will be glad to send it to you. " I could leave the world with today in my eyes." I can't get enough of Geraldine Page.

  • So wonderful!!! Thank you for posting it!!!

  • my english teacher made my class read "a christmas memory" for homework and dear God, i loved it.

  • Thank you so much for whoever posted this. I can't begin to tell you how much this show meant and means to mean. I thought I would never see it again. What a blessing.

  • Capote's very best piece of writing, IMO. A tender tribute to something that can never be recaptured.

  • Well said.

  • Thank you for this posting. I remember watching this at Christmas time with my Mom. We loved this story and always had a cry together. Geraldine Page is wonderful in this and anything she performed in.

  • Amen.

  • My foster Mom and I Viewed this TV adaption on a lost December Evening in 1966. At the time I was 9 just like the boy and this story has left a lasting impression on me. It was also my first introduction to the wonderful Geraldine Page. Thank you for posting this hard to find

and poignant story, it meant allot to me.

  • I'm glad I could share it with you. This film taught me how to embrace the meager treasures of life and to cope with the inevitable loss of those truly irreplaceable things we love (people, our youth, precious times).

Geraldine (as Sook) says it best when the rich lady offers her 50 cents for their Christmas tree & Sook refuses:

Rich lady: "Oh, woman, you can get another one."

Sook: "Oh, I doubt it. There's never two of anything!"

  • @erp65 Thank you so much for posting this treasure!

  • thank yo for posting this. Truman is my favorite writer and im fro this area of Alabama and a writer as well. I love Geraldine Page and I wish I had this movie but can't find it so this is the next best thing! You made my day by posting this on you tube!

  • I think you can find this film on DVD at Amazon. Like the VHS-version I posted, it's in black-and-white. Apparently, the color Master was lost. (I've only seen the black-and white, and for me, it's more in keeping with the spirit of the film.)

  • Oh, that ending hurts every time! I don't want to sound unappreciative, Erp65, but if you ever found the companion of this story, "A Thanksgiving Visitor," we'd enthusiatically watch it, LOL. Many thanks for this magnificent story, though. Geraldine's acting was only matched by Truman Capote's writing. I also loved Geraldine in, "The Beguiled," and "A trip to Bountiful." She showed the true range of her talent in those varied performances.

  • I'm workin' on it! ;)

  • Found & uploaded. --Ep

  • Thank you so much for this!! God, I miss her!!

    Just brilliant!!!

  • She was a true original.

  • thank you

  • certainly

  • This is one of the first videos I w1atch as the Holiday season approaches. The ending always brings a tear to my eye. I wish a pristine, digitally remastered DVD of the color version, complete and uncut, could be released, but I'm not the only one who thinks that. Thanks for posting!

  • Yes, if you've ever suffered an irretrievable loss, the ending is brutal.

  • Sheer magnificence!

    Gerry is amazing...

  • You said it!

  • O.K.

  • I loved the way Frank Perry directed this story. He and his wife Eleanor Perry always examined facets of human relationships. If you saw David and Lisa and I am speaking of the one with Kier Dellea and Janet Margolin, you would know what I am speaking of. Eleanor Perry wrote the screenplay for David and Lisa and the teleplay along with Capote "A Christmas Memory. I still read the story every year around Christmas.

  • I'll have to check out more of their work this summer. Thanks for the heads-up!

  • There are actors and then there are great actors. Mag performance!

  • Indeed.
