  • impresionante combate. Thanks.

  • MUGABI retired HAGLER.i believe after this fight he decided to retire.toughtest fight he ever had.

  • leonard, beat hagler?? u on drugs huh? of course.. what ray leonard did back then was not smart boxing he was a little girl running away through out the fight, only women do that; oh sorry for that coment ladies

  • @panchoyy It's called the manly art of self defence.

  • Dude had like 26 fights against nobodies & thought he could intimidate or even more ridiculous defeat Hagler. He was nicknamed the Beast so he was made 2 feal over confident, when he should have been more concerned about how he's gonna survive this 1.

  • @The24KaratBlack Yeah, but Mugabi gave Hagler one of the toughest fights of his reign, not too bad for a guy that had no recognition and padded his record with no hopers, not even the great Hearns managed to do to Hagler what Mugabi did, sure nobody expected him to beat Hagler but neither the challenge he brought to him.

  • @julius5551 I would disagree with the toughest fights of Haglers reign, Mugabi could punch & take Haglers shots a plenty but his general boxing ability, movement, slickness was non existent.

  • @The24KaratBlack My friend, anyone could see this was a slower version of Hagler, the very same Sugar Ray Leonard after watching this fight realized it was the perfect time to fight him, couldnt he be more right, sure I know the outcome it is still debatable to this day,but keep in mind that almost everybody at the time believed Sugar Ray was headed to slaughter city.Mugabi gave as good as he got, simply Hagler was still at a different level, always been a Hagler fan but hate to put on a blindfold.

  • @julius5551 Indeed, i hear that, the Marvellous 1 truly retired @ the right time. @ least Sugar gave him a decent pay day B4 he left, even thou the decision was questionable.

  • @The24KaratBlack To be honest,I always found it was a big mistake for Hagler to yield to so many concessions when he fought Leonard, ring size, gloves size etc,he didnt need the fight really at that point,so why letting your arm to be twisted like that?I guess the temptation of facing Leonard prove to be too much, besides he fought with the wrong strategy, turning right handed instead of his standard southpaw stance trying to box with him,but I think if they wouldve met in a rematch Hagler takes it.

  • @julius5551 U gotta hand it 2 Leonard he would employ whatever legal tactic he could 2 better his chances of winning, i do like Leonard very much he was like the perfect boxer. Hagler jus wanted 2 get in the ring with him so he could shine, maybe boxing righty 4 the first few rounds was 1 of the hidden concessions they agreed 2. Leonard was retired & not @ his best, so even with a slowed Hagler he new the later rounds would B his undoing, he also new he could never hurt Hagler.

  • @The24KaratBlack Leonard allowed Hagler to even take the largest purse in exchange for all his demands being met,I also suspect that Hagler even though had slowed down a tad,was a little overconfident since Leonard had being retired for a while and went straight to fight him w/o testing the middleweight waters first,it sounded like a far-fetched idea back then but boy did he prove a lot of people wrong despite the questionable decision.

  • @julius5551 In my opinion, a fight with Hagler in his prime & Leonard in his prime, Leonard would win a decision against Hagler, it would hav been a battle of wits with no Knock downs but Leonards speed would hav got the points. Hagler missed a gud opportunity 2 beat him up, even thou Leonard still had the speed he had lost his legendary stamina. I think they both came out winners really, many people think Hagler won, some thing Ray won, Ray got the decision Hagler got the money.

  • @The24KaratBlack I agree,Leonard was the better rounded fighter,BUT in my humble opinion I dont think he could win a war of attrition, remember Duran-Leonard I?Leonard fell in the trap of slugging it out with Duran and paid dearly for it,he could beat Hagler only by doing what he does best and that is smart boxing.

  • Hagler....Best Eva

  • I saw the fight in bar in the front row for $20. It was a closed circuit broadcast.

The under card had Hearns vs Shuler and Sandoval vs Canizales. What a great show!

  • This was Hagler at his best. Give credit to Mugabi he came to fight but he lost against the real beast MARVELOUS MARVIN HAGLER !

  • A WAR FOR THE AGES FOR TRUE BOXING FANS!

  • I think Mugabi took both of the first two rounds here. Marvin Hagler is easily one of the top ten fighters of all time. And no, Sugar Ray Leonard is nowhere in sight of that list.

  • @dropway9 are you forreal? watch leonard v duran or leonard v pryor

  • @dropway9 i think you mean leonard isnt one of your favorites, hes probly the 2nd or 3rd best pound for pound ever, next to duran and robinson,

  • Words cannot express how much admiration I have for this man. My favourite fighter of all time!

  • Watching this you can see why Leonard decided it was a good time to challenge Hagler (which of course he could and should have done earlier); Mugabi is actually outboxing Hagler a lot of the time here -- and I can't imagine that happening a few years earlier. Hagler was slowing down.

  • This is one of the first fights I remember watching as a kid. I can't help but remember Hagler punching his fist through a picture of the Beast on it. Classic fight!!!

  • Hagler or Roy Jones ????

  • @truthhitmanisback The Marvelous One All Daay.

  • I think Hagler would be probably the 2nd or 3rd best middleweight fighter of all time only behind Robinson.

  • @capablemachine Harry Greb is number 1 middleweight of alltime! the only man to beat Gene Tunney who beat Jack Dempsey.

  • @dan32113 There isn't even any footage of the fights.

  • Mugabi chose the wrong tactics. He should have taken a chicken feather into the ring & tickled Hagler's armpit. Then when Hagler laughed, he should have shot him.

  • great fight. a couple of other masterpieces are morales barrera 1, gatti ward 1&2

  • @yllibotiv

    Why would you be worried?

I understand Mugabi had a tremendous record, but it's MARVIN HAGLER!

The man with the iron chin and phenomenal skills, southpaw or conventional, plus, he always was in fine condition. Also, no one is going to intimidate him.

  • This has to be one of the top ten fights ever in the last 30 years ! The other one has to be Hagler and Hearns !

  • there will never be another marvin hagler!

  • 26 kos from 26 wins? wow

  • Hearns could tear down a wall with his right hand but got no chin, Duran was the smartest slugger ever seen but had no body size to go beyond lightweight, Hagler had both power and technique but was badly out-speeded by a first class boxer, Sugar Ray Leonard, quick hands, quick feet, and such a fine style, Sugar was the best man in boxing during the eighties, no doubt about that.

  • Leonard might have beaten Hagler on points but Mugabi beat the fight out of him here.

  • How many undisputed champions would fight a guy 26 and 0 with 26 ko's ???? only 1 marvelous marvelous

  • I believe it was only after watching this brutal war that Sugar Ray Leonard finally summoned the courage to challenge Hagler...

  • @castaway50 yes because sugar ray could see that this fight took alot out of Marvin which sugar ray admitted in a interview and sugar ray said he could see that marvins timing was of and starting to slip a bit and sugar ray even invited marvin to his restraunt and they had a few drinks to marvin and people watching it looked like to guys just chatting and drinking but sugar ray was asking qustions feeling Marvin out (his mental state ) was marvin still hungary to fight which he was not and sugar

  • ray new this that is why sugar ray took the fight so it would even up the odds for sugar ray also give him the advantage very clever and crafty sugar ray was he has admitted to all of this the cheeky little so and so

  • @sweetassugar69

You conveniently mentioned the rounds that Ray won lol... and left out the other 10 rounds which Hearns won.... or at least 8. Hearns was clearly ahead on points, but Ray pulled it out and won in a classic battle involving two great fighters.

  • Great fight! These guys now (most of them) are PUSSIES, who only fight 1 or 2 times a year; WONT get out of bed for at least a few million to fight & make RIDICULOUS demands before even getting in there!! I think EVERYONE knows of whom/what I speak.. Not saying man SHOULDN'T get paid their worth, but then when you compare scraps like THIS (just for example), then you see what these so called "PRIZE FIGHTERS" are serving up?? JOKE BUSINESS bless!!!

  • Back in the day fighters fought the best no catch weight BS, no fighting about piss (steriods) test. No over paid mis matches, you got ur monies worth. Todays fighters could not hang.

  • @CorDova07x I agree. That Catch weigh clause is major crap. FIght the heavier fighter at his best

  • @CorDova07x What you said is so true. I'd like to add, these guys could go 15rds as well.

  • @CorDova07x Its funny you mention that considering Marvin Haglar in his next fight fought Ray Leonard who insisted the Middleweight title be a 12 round bout instead of the regulated 15 rounds at the time.

The fighters of yesterday manipulated the rules just as the fighters of today do its just history has a selective memory.

  • @NormenBatez and also he INSISTED on 12 oz gloves (which is why it wasnt astonishing like the commentators said, that he could take haglers punches), a big ass ring to run around, and most of his "flashy" punches landing on hagler's arms and shoulders, et fucking cetera... Leonard was a princess.

  • @CorDova07x i agree but only difference today theirs a lot of money at stake thats why you get the catchweight bs and the blood test steroids bs. too much money to be made

  • @MIZIKE69 Sugar Ray Leonard vs Donny Lalonde was catchweight. Donny had to come in under the lightHeavyweight limit, but both Supermiddle & Lightheavyweight belts were on the line!!! It suited Leonard to make bigger man boil down, Manny did same with De la Hoya...

  • Gotta love seeing Mills Lane. He was in so many great events... One thing about Mugabi, after this fight he tried to say, "Hagler looked like an amateur..." Yeah... he looked like an amateur while he was knocking your ass out. A fighter simply cannot build a reputation on a good performance in a fight he lost. A similar case would be Razor Ruddock who tried to say he was the best heavyweight in the world after losing twice to Tyson. Can't do it.

  • greatest middleweight of all time

  • if there was any justice he would have been called relentless marvelous marvin hagler

  • what a legendary fight. Hagler is just so damned good. I can't think of one middleweight in the last 50 years who could have beaten him, perhaps Hearns if he hadn't broken his hand.

  • @Robstailey leonard beat him so theres one !!!

  • @sweetassugar69 that's funny, i watched leonard v hearns and i only saw one fighter in the ring. hmmm...

  • am i not mistaken but was hearns knocked from pillar to post 6th and 7th and 13th and finally stopped 14 th and being carried back to his dressing room by his entourage ! oh sorry i must be imagining this lol

  • The reason I loved Hagler is that he never ran away from ANYONE! I'm sure he didn't make as much money on this fight as he did with Hearns, but he still took the fight, notwithstanding the cut in pay. What a major difference from today's wannabe boxing champions. ie. Pretty Gay Floyd Bedwetter.

  • @improvmaniac

" Pretty Gay Floyd Bedwetter. "

Talk about complete disrespect for a champion. Who in the hell do you think you are? Mayweather would slap the shit out of you if called him that to his face.

  • @ooOmegaSupremeoo well, since he doesn't like to fight, I'm guessing I could call him just about anything and still walk away without a scratch.

  • @ooOmegaSupremeoo I'd like to see GayWeather slap the shit out of someone who is itching to fight him. I'm not a Paquiao fan but Mayweather and his Moron Dad & Uncle talk like he's the greatest fighter ever. Mayweather would never be welterweight champ during the leonard hearns eraHe's just not willing to take the punishment

  • @heath5511 I dont like mayweather either but he is great and he can beat anyone. He hasn't fought the elite but even if he did he would probably still win. I don't think he can beat paquiao but those two are gonna be two of the greatest of all time when they retire.

  • @userho I like that you're not letting your hatred for mayweather prvent u from speaking the truth, but I think May would stop Pacman, mayweather has always found a way to beat his opponent, he's so so intelligent, only time will tell

  • @userho Two of the g.o.a.t.'s,Mayweather and Pacman, you must be on crack.

  • @frEEturk youre just a hater no one in boxing right now even has a chance against these two but themselves. Mayweather has dominated everyone he has faced and pac has been destroying evrybody and not only are they good but there much bigger than him. If they aint great than i dont know what is

  • hagler had a rediculous professional record. cant remember the numbers exactly, but they were not even real. It might have just said "record: Too Insane."

  • If Mugabi won the last two rounds the fight would have been a draw.

  • @mrjackcoffee Too bad for Mugabi that Hagler was getting stronger & "The Beast's"best rounds were behind him.

  • these are real fighters, shit like this is rare nowadays

  • mugabi lives near me now he used 2 train at the local boxing gym

  • What does John Mugabi do these days?

  • I paid closed-circuit fees for this one. A classic well worth

    the cost! --Hagler fan.

  • Hagler had unbelievable power in both hands...my fav middleweight of all times!!!!

he absolutely slapped everyone he faced!! His K.O percentage was ridiculous in that era!!! He was the true great of that stunning era of boxing!!!!!

  • no way!!! he was a big middleweight..all the middles of his era were big middleweights!! he dominated!!

  • yes he did, hagler was awesome, the ray leonard defeat should have been a draw imo.

  • @hartistry1957 a haglerfight is always worth it. when i first watched it I thought hagler totally dominated it. watching it now, mugabi really stayed with him. as proof, hagler has a swell in his eye after the fight
