  • Mine did the same thing after I dropped it fifty times. Maybe that's what happened to you.

  • u did that to ur mouse the mouses at my school don't do that and they r also mighty mouses!!!!!!!!! :P

  • Hi buddy my mouse roller ball click does not work...it do the same function as the right click...do you have any idea where the problem should be?

    thank you

  • Quick update:

Well, I'm changing my opinion on the wireless Might Mouse. I finally found one that works right out of the box as it should. No defects. No loose top shell. It feels very tight and solid actually. Even the bluetooth connection is reliable. Apple just released bluetooth updates and I haven't had a disconnection since.

So if you find one that works out of the box and has no defects, hang on to it. We'll see how long it'll last, though. And it is still pretty easy to push around.

  • Mine has the same problem. I'm on my THIRD bluetooth Mighty Mouse. The other two had scrollballs that would not scroll left unless you applied an inordinate amount of pressure to the ball while rolling it.

Ugh. I'm going back to a wired MM.

  • Sorry to hear that you're having the same type of problems. It seems ridiculous that the presence of a wire on a mouse would have such a profound impact on the build quality.

Ugh. Get ur shit together Apple.

  • Went back to a wired MM today, and all is well once again. The mouse feels lighter, easier to push around (granted, that's a matter of taste - nearly all wireless mice are heavier), but the main thing is that it feels more solidly built.

When this mouse DOES work as it should (whether wired or wireless) it's a pleasure to use.

Would I recommend a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse? If you find one that works and is well-assembled, absolutely. It might take a few tries, though. Returns, returns.

  • I think they all have a loose shell because or the hardware in it.

  • I think my wired Apple Mouse has the problem.

  • i could of sworn i heard that has something to do with the right click option i might be wrong

  • My friend had the same problem...but he brought his mouse at my house and it worked perfectly ??..so settings on the comp maybe??

  • Mine did this as well. Very annoying! I've confirmed it's not by design; a majority do not have this problem.

Quick and cheap fix: cut a couple of small strips from a business card, about 3/4 inch long by 1/8 inch wide. Pick up the Mighty Mouse, holding it pinched in the 'clicked' position, and slide one of the paper strips into the narrow gap under each of the side buttons. Voila! No more wobble.

  • the dirt is disgustingly and brown :S lol

just use an old toothbrush maybe? :)

  • I too had the problem... but with your "yet another use for business cards besides toothpick" solution, it's now back to normal! Thanx MacGyver!

  • @ScabDragon Thank you for this tip! I no longer want to throw my mouse at the wall. Just to extend on your tip: once I slipped the strips of card into place, I found that they caused the mouse button to trigger at the slightest touch, so I used a scalpel to nudge the bits of card slightly towards the back of the mouse (i.e. towards the pivot point) which meant the mouse clicked properly.

  • hey i have found this with my mouse too!

Then again it's like this with 3 of my mates mouses... maybe it's just part of the design? As it really doesn't cause any problems :)

  • wicked ... so much shit came out of mine oh my.. thanks =]

  • its just your mouse, or maybe mine is the only one not wobbly

  • Thanks for proving I'm not crazy... but it's too bad this got past Apple's QA. I have both the wired and wireless Mighty Mouse, and the wired feels a lot more solid. Sadly.

  • That's EXACTLY what I noticed. When I realized that my mouse just had that wobbly/loose topshell, I started taking a second look at any of the modern Apple mouses (sp?) and found that the wired feels like a solidly built product, whereas QA forgot to take a look at this mouse. HAHA And I thought that I was the only crazy person that this bothered :o)

  • Had the same problem with two different Logitech mice. Returned them both and got ones that were working. Is that not possible at Apple? They were really generous when it came to reparing my iPod.

  • all the mighty mouses are like that mine is like that and it works just fine that is just how apple makes them.

  • I have NEVER seen a "wired" mighty mouse that had that blatantly of a wobbly top shell. It seems like this annoyance was introduced when Apple came out with the wireless mighty mouse. I'm of the opinion that it makes the mouse feel cheap and hastily thrown together--not something that a consumer would expect when purchasing an Apple product. If apple can engineer a Sudden Motion Sensor, they must have at least ONE engineer capable of designing a top shell that rests properly on the mouse, right?

  • Interesting! I actually had the same problem with a loose shell on the Mighty mouse i got to go with my Macbook, I just took it back to the Apple retail store and they just handed me a new one, With no problems. Its probably just that either the shell is deformed a bit or that it wasn't put together right when made.

  • That's interesting, but good to hear. I actually did an exchange over the phone with it, but the "newer" model has the same problem, albeit to a lesser extent. I was beginning to just assume that all of the mouses have these deformed top shells. Does your new replacement have the same problem as your earlier mouse?

  • Mine still has a loose shell but alot its alot less loose than the old one i exchanged.

  • must have been made on a monday.

  • lol
