i done this in science the other day, even thought the radiation has a very short range, i just felt like hiding behind a lead screen, cant allways trust teachers -_-
you win...I asked if ur serious...a stick, or "rigid structure marked with centimeters, or inches" Oxford Dictionary100 centimeters is equal to 1 meter, or 39.37 inches; therefore, a meter stick, also known as a ruler, is used to measure the length or distance of an object in meters. A meter is the conversion of its prefix centi (a multiple of 10 equal to 100) to meters. 10 centimeters by 10 centimeters equals one meterthe equivalnet of the unit that makes up a meter stick
@Bloodscalpr I wouldnt like to hold a big lump of pure uranium metal, cause its toxic, but if I would have a radioactive uranium rock or whatever I would dare to hold it for days if needed :P, it does no harm holding a radioactive item, unless its something like plutonium that will fry you like a chicken :)
@JaksProductions How about radium? Would you hold a lump of that for a few days? You actually shouldnt hold anything that is radioactive, since a lot of stuff emits gamma rays.. they only make it a centimeter or so through the air.. but if your finger is right there you could be subjecting yourself to gamma rays.. For all I know the gamma rays could shread your blood cells and screw with your genes and such.. Most people that had close contact with radioactive stuff ended up dying from it..
@JaksProductions Yeah but I was commenting situation in video not about thing you wrote me. Btw living in a leadbox is also dangerous, because living organism needs a specific level of radiation.
@taliban0king Do you mean the chunk of radioactive element? If you want to find some americium 243 then look no farther than your common household smoke alarm.. You will only find about 0.1 micro-curies worth of americium.. But if you had like 300 smoke detectors...
Now, if that alpha source makes a geigercounter beep.. it is charging a gas discharge tube.. If that is so, then you should be able to make a tube that converts the radiation into usable electricity.. Use capacitors as collectors..
Only flaw is that Lead is itself slightly radioactive. So while blocking it is emiting.

why does some particles of gamma still go throught the lead whereas others are stopped ?

@JaksProductions Holding uranium won't hurt you?! Are you insane, it will kill you within a 10 days.

@JaksProductions There is no matter, are you holding it or not. Radiation beams without any contact, you don't have to touch it to get radiated.
Cheburdac 1 year ago
@Cheburdac Haha... Ok go live in a Lead box because you get radiated all the time by cosmic radiation.

haha we did this 2 dai in physics, bt the teacher held it in his HAND, he ddnt use that big stick lol :S hes a nutter tho :P xxx

how did you get that radiation genorator??
taliban0king 4 years ago
From a school science supplier; I wouldn't imagine they could be easily obtained unless you can show you have a legitimate reason for having them.
yerrahyouknow 4 years ago
You can buy them online from United Nuclear (they're the cheapest I've found, but aren't digital).
Also, alpha isn't that dangerous unless you get it near some beryllium :P
CATSCEO 3 years ago
its called a gieger counter it conts how much radiation there is in one area
openwide87 3 years ago
its not a geigercounter-i have 1

i belive its a radio active substance
