  • luv annie lenox !!2 me she is the best voice in song.I grew up listening to annie's songs. with all this going on about whitney houston right now, i still feel annie lennox over powers her with lyrics and voice. sorry, loved whitney, just love annie more!!!

  • Cheers John!

  • dobri stari časi

  • Sublime, cool and very Annie & Dave!

  • I really couldn't imagine this in the movie. That's not to say it's a bad song, it would just clash with the atmosphere of the film.

  • @Razorsinmysalad There was, apparently, some dispute between the director and the film company about the soundtrack that was to be used. The backers, Virgin, insisted on the Eurythmics and had the final say, but the director wanted another score altogether, and there are versions of the film knocking around with this alternative music on it. Cheek the google entry for this version of the movie for more details!

  • Wow, if you look at her face, she looks kinda like Christina Applegate!

  • Their best song and an amazing movie that went under the radar.

  • I only ask that you accept my love for our leader.

  • "Freedom is the ability to say two plus two equals four." Winston Smith

  • @soxfan801 The actual quote is "Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows."

  • This lady is BADASS.

  • I'm not even going to comment on the visionary aspect of this song. How much of it has realized now that we have reached the new millennium. I'll keep all comments to myself as to avoid being attacked in here. Love the song. 'Nuf said.

  • this make me go back in time when I meet the first time with a fellow my cousin from that moment I feel't myself evolute 4 the 2nd time till now my only real best friend also sort but that time we listening more sos band shaka can prince the gapp band loose ends but in a regular bar it was appetizing what was the world different

  • This is a song that will stick to your head!!

  • Annie Lennox subliminally took the Berlin wall down brick by brick, one by one. It took five years.

  • Thumbs up if you like sex

  • Wasn't this whole ablum created to be a soundtrack for the movie 1984 but the producers didn't like so it wasn't used? Just a guess on my part was the album, while based othe 1984 theme did match what the producers had in mind. The movie wasn't supposed to give hope to any of the characters. The music Annie and Dave made did give hope.

  • It's here and "we" don't even notice...

    Such an incredible song ;)

  • likes that shit, that's some serious tech beat plus bass beat.

  • What synth are they using to create the middle instrumental part ? A Fairlight ?

  • marches away..... always loved them.

  • 1984 is one of the best books that I have ever read. Also thought that the film that they brought out that year was a good adaption. I remember voting for the above video on the "Top of the Pops" best video vote.

  • Annie is like the female counterpart/heir apparent to David Bowie.

  • Superb album. And yes much overlooked.

  • @peggymount I agree entirely - and this particular song, in my opinion, isn't nearly as famous as it should be - how can such a masterpiece be so largely overlooked indeed? that's beyond me...

  • this is a classic, brings me back! immaculate! x

  • this is from back in the day, when young people listened to music. Not like today when young people listens to shit

  • @piscesgutt

    i could'nt agree more.

  • heat resistant helicopters. Isn't that what has just been done in 'Occupy London'?

  • LOVED THE BOOK THE MOVIE WAS TWISTED IN A GOOD WAY ITS ONE OF MY FAVES WISH THE EURYTHMICS WERE USED IN IT JULIA WAS A HAUNTING SONG THAT NEEDED TO BE THERE LOVE LOVE LOVE

  • Miss the 70's and 80's then it all started to end in the 90's.

  • 1984 i was 16 .i still love this music .now 43

  • Newspeak=Political Correctness. How prophetic was Orwell? I know she preferred the fairer sex, but Annie looks hot by the way!

  • @3212finch she is not a lesbian

  • @sweiland75 Perhaps she was bisexual. I went out with a girl in the eighties and her sister was lesbian. Annie Lennox rang her and asked her out, but she refused. So I got on the phone to her and chatted a little, but really didn't know what to say! Unless it was an impressionist?

  • this song is ace! and the soundtrack, glad it came back to me ol memory banks!m athnks for postin and rock on ms. lennox! cheers!

  • What a band saw them 21 years ago it was dave stewarts birthday what a gig.:)

  • Doubleplus good

  • Thank God I grew up in a time when women could be sexy without being sluts or whores.

  • @piscesgutt True and yet people were having more sex than now.

  • Male or female is crime!!!! 1984!!! can you read!!! the message???

  • jack nicholson on the drums?

  • Great song........1 of the best bands of the 80's....

  • George Orwell was right...

  • google pink triangle brigade Edward New Orleans Hottest Rock

  • Great Haircut, seriously

  • Good song / Bad lyrics

  • the sexy sister of Radio GAGA

  • @pinkdiamondzworld That's obviously untrue, not all branches of communism are authoritarian.

  • Crap is easier to listen to

  • Oh! It's the way I want my hair cut off, with the same colour...

  • I saw them in the 80's at Oxford town hall, weeks before they hit the big time..they were incredible. Also saw them 2 yrs later in Germany...my god they were good..Dave & Annie...what a fab pair of musicians....where's the talent these days..."The X factor".................!!!??????????

  • I loved the music in 1984

  • This song is beautiful, dark, and underated just like the movie.

  • she has a nice voice very creepy.I WILL KILL MY SELF IF SEX IS A CRIME.

  • This song, Right by your side, and Would I Lie to you are the best Eurythmics tunes

  • F... that´s just sooo goood

  • @siddiq97 I have read the book over this year, the story isn't all about sex, it's all about the influence of a corrupted Government who has too much power over it's society. If you don't like books, watch the movie which (funny) came out in 1984.

  • 2:12 She is so hot!

  • Classic KROQ!

  • we are heading for 1984 check project INDECT....

  • I love how the book is named after the year that Newspeak was used.

  • @siddiq97 Its a soundtrack to the movie 1984,after the novel by Orwell. The main character had a forbidden romance, under the ever present eye of Big Brother.(totalitarian regime)

Something like that, its been a while since I read the novel.20 odd years to be precise, maybe a true literarian can help you somewhat further.

But hence the title Sex Crime.

  • This is perfect for today. George Orwell's B-Day and New York legalizes same sex marriage.

  • = SERIOUSLY underappreciated is SO right; BEST album of the entire '80s (NOT that that's saying much haha! - BUT this album is actually a shining light in that 2-my-mind music-impoverished decade....!), & best album the Eurythmics ever made (btw i read somewhere in an interview w/them that they agree w/me!)

    ;)

  • @EveKauai - The Police, Queen, Devo, Public Image Limited, PWEI, Def Leppard, Midnight Oil, V. Spy V. Spy, Divinyls, Icehouse etc etc- I think more so your listening habits are impoverished.

  • @piginasack - dude, we're talking a whole DECADE = i rest my case!!!

    :)

  • @EveKauai - Name a larger list from the 90's? 2000's? Even the 70's would struggle...

  • @piginasack OK here goes (= OFF the TOP of my head, i.e. in no particular order & NO a4thought required...):RadioHead Nirvana Pearl Jam Better Than Ezra Beck Luka Blum Coldplay early Jewel i.e. B4 she sold out: 2000's IS indeed pushin' it but Damien Rice, Amy Winehouse when she was sober enough 2 b stellar + some of the new crop of neo-Mo'town, e.g. Bruno Mars & Adele: as 4 the '70's woah not 'nuff characters but Pink Floyd Cat Joni Neil Carly Peter Gabriel Nick Drake Bob Dylan post-Sarah/part 2

  • @piginasack = phew! Is THAT enough 4 u or do we just call it quits b/c i CONTINUE 2 rest my case?!?

  • @piginasack PS OMG i 4got Leonard!!! & probably a dozen other EXCEPTIONAL Artistes from the '70s...whereas THIS video is an exception B/C it's exceptional AND from the '80s!

    :)

  • @piginasack PPS - DEF LEPPARD?!?!??!?!??!?!?!!!!

  • @EveKauai Def Leppard defeats Coldplay. Your argument is invalid.

  • Such fond memories - Auckland concert, January 1987 - opening track.

  • timeless good zeitlos gut !!

  • Don't under-estimate Me.

  • one of the best 3 eurythmics songs ever...

go annie and dave you were at your best then

regretfully I have to say, anything you made 90s and later, totally sucks... drop the booze and go back to taking what you took bakc then

  • Probably my favorite Eurythmics song... So cutting edge and modern when it came out! Annie looks great in the video too.

  • 1984 dub dub dub!

  • Still a great listen & vid. Havent seen it in more than 20 years.

  • double plus good.

  • Annie Lennox. I like.

  • Big brother

  • @haddenelmscodydebaun The actor is Bob Flag.

  • A・Lennox の おっぱい と 尻 を 論じて どうなるのだ?

  • @americanjedi77 I meant to say that she has very womanly breasts and hips when she wears clothing that is tight enough to show them.

  • @americanjedi77 Well, she certainly has womanly hips and breasts.

  • forget the politics and all that shit, this song still sounds great to me and takes me back to a time when i didn't care what was going on in the world, wish i was back there now!!

  • @MrDanny1012 tell me bout it now all the comments are about how sexy annie looks rather than the music. oh music is dead now the glory days of style, music, creativity are over.

  • @Cee1003 nobody here gives a shit, were here to listen to the Eurythmics so why don't you take your head for a shit?

  • @gibbo909 For your information I bought the cd on its first release, watched the movie and loved the Eurythmics the minute I heard Sweet Dreams are made of this in the 80's.

I think you are very mistaken that nobody gives a shit, I woke up January 2011 I'm 45 years old, how old are you going to be before you give one 16, 17? Sure I don't know you so don't cast ignorant comments on people who you think won't reply to you because they are mere children!

  • @Cee1003 I count give a shit if you respond or not ass hole. and I'm 37 not 17.

  • Annie's singing reminds me of David Bowie on this song

  • oh mom...what a great song -- and annie is HOT!!!

  • Google Zeitgeist Moving forward

    Google The Venus Project

Its my duty as a citizen of Planet Earth to Wake you all up!

  • Big Brother is watching us now, just a few years later than expected, we have technology today that will find your face as clear as a bell if you are standing amongst thousands...

Every move you make is on CCTV, your mobile phone signal can trace you to your location, your computer's ISP can take them to your door...

This shit has got to go....

Google The Venus Project and join the Zeitgeist Movement before it gets any worse.

  • @Cee1003 (ever notice people who make comments like this usually have "something to hide"?) (so what's yours, hm?)

  • @phxgator Nothing but my bra size dear are you part of the "in Group?"

  • @Cee1003 I couldnt of worded it better myself, problem is, telling people of whats going on is like banging ur head a gainst a brick wall, i know how it feels. most people are brainwashed by big brother thinking it will protect them - exactly how george orwell predicted it to be. now we have chemtrails and those damn planes flying past us worldwide almost every 2-5minutes on many days now.

  • Doubleplusgood

  • @makidtrej And freakin' me out.

  • I have to agree. This soundtrack, and the earlier rock soundtrack to Metropolis, are very under-appreciated.

  • @GreyhawkGrognard

Not by me !!!!!! Glad you mentioned the metropolis soundtrack too ;)

  • Quite possibly the loftiest heights of synth-pop coolness! :)

  • doubleplusgood unprolefeed

  • In Soviet style? Soviet soilders?

  • @Rain4Life2009 Dummy, it's from "1984" (John Hurt movie, made from George Orwell's book)

  • my uncle would hav record top of the pops from the wen they was younger n he gave them to me n i found this song. on it bk in the day wen dvd didnt exsist

  • Amazing to realize that this was such a huge hit in the UK but banned from US radio airwaves...too bad MTV didn't give it much rotation.

  • @bextorboy82 um, this wasn't banned from US airwaves. Where did you get that info? I heard this many times on radio in the US.

  • your damn right its under appreciated!

  • Well what we feared back then, is reality now......

  • In order to understand the videoclip, you must see the mouvie 1964 the most liked mouvie i v ever seen

  • @andreadan68 sorry,,it was 1984

  • Annie looks a LOT like David Bowie in this video

  • I actually love this song omg especially when she says "wish I wasn't living here"

  • @Verakun the lyric is "wish I was unliving here"

  • @valiumland it sounds close ok

  • just found the song on a old tape from high school. great sond and thanks for the up

  • brilliant voice, great song, fantastic band...

  • Destroy the Us government...while the chinese, the north korean, the iranian, the cuban, the sudan governments keep oppressing their peoples under the cover of the secrecy...

  • Opening Governments

  • as true today as it was back then!

  • This song was seriously great on its own terms, but the idea of mixing this music with the movie wasn't .... good.

  • @mafketays; "This song was seriously great on its own terms, but the idea of mixing this music with the movie wasn't .... good."

I've never seen the movie, but I was going to say something similar- that though I think this is a great song, I don't possibly see how or where it could fit into what (AFAICT) was intended as a relatively faithful, straightforward film version of the book.

  • @NotATube The film's worth seeing, especially for Dominic Muldowney's restored soundtrack- his 'Oceania, Tis For Thee' is remarkable. As much as I love Eurythmics, their pop style in this film would have been quite jarring.

  • Annie Lennox Brilliant!

  • Nobody does songs like this anymore.

  • 1984= 21st Century.

  • @mcp. Your Orwellian retort is ironic too. Sorry you lost your sense of humanity. Good luck with that.

  • Considering the plight of Julian Assange...this song is rather ironic.

  • @revog99 Oh, little whining bitch boy. The 'plight' of garbage will be over soon. Executed or slain in the streets of London.

  • @revog99 Not really. It has nothing to do with Assange, so it's not irony.

  • @revog99 Fucking a 13 year old Swede has nothing to do with Big Brother or the New World Order. Its just wrong and perverted in every aspect.

  • @revog99 Right on man - Big Brother can go hang.
