Jan Silva moved back to the US from France. He played a number of small tournaments in B10s in Northern California, lost all the matches. Check USTA records. Apparently, practicing in France for three years did not improve his play. In South California, a number of 7-8 years old kids are ranked from 50 to 150 in B10s open, which is equivalent of top 10 ranking in N. Cal. Look at the latest Little Mo result where SoCal 8yar old kids winning all others
@laperdepaperhond312 Most kids who play 2hb don't switch later because they fear the results. I see 6'-4" guys hit 2hb and can benchpress over 200 lbs.
How tall is Jan? I am a computer designer, and do not know much about tennis. My comparison measurement from numerous videos show that Jan must be much shorter than an average kid at his age is. May be he will ketch up when he gets older. If not, he will be about 165-175cm at age of 21. I would not think about a 175cm tall man as a future of tennis champion because all the current champions are 185cm and taller.
wow you guys are really attacking the parents aren't you?...
Just think about your own lives as a child for a cool minute. (keep thinking...)
Now you'll remember that your parents pushed you in certain areas they thought could/would be beneficial to you in later life. If you didn't like it when you got older, you dropped it(whether it be religion, sports, or those dreaded piano lessons). Lay off his parents until you're ready to look in the mirror people.
Maybe you should worry about your own child...just a thought? Jan plays other sports and is a happy normal kid. He has an opportunity that has never been seen before in tennis, what he decides to do with it is truely his choice.
well they are. they're at the academy because they were offered full room, board, jobs, schooling for jan, etc. in an interview, jan said he wants to be a scientist when he grows up. he enjoys playing tennis and his parents have said that whenever he decides to hang up his racquet that'll be it.
That's great he can play like he does, but professional tennis is so little about technique and so much about heart and mind. By the time he's 9, other kids would have caught up to him technique wise. There's NO telling if he will make it or not at this age. Proves how big of a deal publicity is... I work with a 7yr old girl that hits the ball better, yet not for a second can I look her parents in the eye and say "She's going to make it for sure." There's just no way...
Who do you coach? I think Pro Tennis is more about who has the money to travel and train to get to that level. So many stories about players who's families had to give them so much money just to make the attempt at a pro career.
That is very true as well. My only suggestion to that would be if you have a great enough desire and show it, there are always people out there willing to help financially. But sure, tennis is an expensive sport to begin with...lessons, equipment, traveling, etc. and it's mostly the wealthier ones that get into it in the first place.....
Back to my comment earlier. Sure, technique is important and all pro's have relatively good technique, but the reason they are so far ahead of the rest is definitely NOT because of technique. I was in Delray for the Ginepri/Blake match 2 weeks ago and if I were analysing their technique,it's far from perfect. Both of them drop their wrists on volleys,Blake's ball toss is too far to the left giving him mostly a flat serve instead of good variety, and a few others. In general, they know how to WIN.
Good technique can be learned by anyone who has some form of coordination and who can listen to a knowledgeable instructor. But once technique is formed, it's up to the individual...how hard to they train (fitness), sure, how much financial backing they had (I had to cut my pro career short due to lack of finances and no support from my home country),
your willingness to battle through and come out a winner in all kinds of elements (traveling, being alone away from family, injury, afraid to lose, patience, aggressiveness, knowing when to grind it out and knowing when to step on the pace, the list really keeps on going.
Exactly. It is impossible to tell anything about a boy this young in regards to a future in tennis. He would be better off playing tennis once or twice per week for 30 minutes max and playing other sports the rest of his play time.
Exactly??? he should have started playing at 12 like all of the guys in the top 100. There is only one thing that is for certain and that is... you have absolutely no idea what your talking about...for about 7 months you have been spewing idiocy. He is around professional people. He goes to school and does normal things any 6 year old does. He is happy on court and off. He plays other sports with the same passion that he does the tennis. But thanks anyway for your positive attitude.
hello im still not sure i see a tennis future for this kid but it lookin positive keep doin what your doin you have to push your kid thats what my parents did and i made it all the way to pro juniors till i broke my wrist and i needed surgery and my forehand serve was never the same and teach him to mix in a short slice time to time good luck to your son and familly
What is going on? A full size racket, a full tennis ball, playing on a full court? Going by new guidelines this guy should be on a mini court with sponge balls with a 23inch racket. His wrists will be gone by the time he's ten! It's happened many times before!
And the rest of you, he looks like he is having fun anyways. Could he burn out? Possibly. Right now he's enjoying it. I have seen better his age, but i think he has serious potential. I hit with a kid his age a couple of weeks ago who seemed to have a similiar skill level, and he made me run big time. You just never know
jsilvaten, not everyone that disagrees with you is going to be a pervert. That was way out of line what you said to tennislegend. either don't post or set it so they can't make comments if you don't want to see people talk junk
Wow!!! You people are nuts. First of all, every great tennis player got pushed when they were young and that is why their is professional tennis. I can't say if it is right or not, but its a fact!!!
hey silva you posted about my bold faced lies about things at your academy and you but since I know Yulia and her mom, and her french friend who who arranged to have her come there and then told her it is not good and she must leave. something for nothing is still nothing or less if it hurts you and you definitely need to learn something. also your volley is pretty pitiful in the vid you were hitting. leave it to the pros to coach.
weeks? how about days, and why do you attack goonerboy23 and his son so much? jealous of someone with quality? i just feel you want so much media attention. i have commented on others as well good and ok. don't take it personally man.
quality? thats funny! your unbelievable, goonerboy commented about things he should not have as he has no idea what he is talking about. He made this personal as have a few other parents with children attempting to do the same thing. Is he jealous because Jan gets media attention and only has 1 video that I posted on youtube?
while he has 20 of his kid and says Jan is being forced to play?
Hey Tennislegend1, you are totally right in every posted comment about Mr Silvas. I would be the first to be there to watch Janni play his first tournaments in USA. Has he already gone back to compete? I dont remember seeing him in any. Has he started competitions?
svajda, you said something off base because silva says he is coming back to usa to compete and play tournaments, how will the boy do? who knows but i think we shall see. basically the boy is stiff and flat footed, nothing smooth stroke wise and what's the big deal having a 1 hand bh that is only slapping and coming across the ball, not forward nor through the ball. be suprised one way or the other
Why does tennislegend1 care so much? Really unusual to me...youtube should only allow you to post one comment. you have been stalking my sons videos for weeks...I dont know, maybe you have some other motives?
My comment was made a few months ago and I believe silva said they were coming back to play in tournaments in his last interview a couple of weeks ago, so I don't believe it was off base. I can't wait until the Jan. Feb. issue of Tennis Magazine comes out so everyone can tell me how bad my 4 year old plays and his horrible techniqe so maybe you guys could give Jan Silva a break. Neither one is being pushed, actually I'm being pushed by my 4 year old to play everyday.

he can always switch later

I mean honestly, you people are critiquing a CHILD! How you have the nerve to say some of the things you have been, i have no idea.
Give him a break!
he's got some amazing talent. best of luck!
