Not necessarily. It depends on what style, system, and school. I've seen a wide variety of different ways that end up 95+% the same.
I learned to tie it mirror the way he does, as it seems you have. But I've always had friends who've trained at different schools that do it a different way.

almost but not right..........LOOK AT ''HOW TO TIE A JUDO BELT'' works with mostly all martial arts with a few exceptions- kung fu sash......?

This is one of the better videos. At least with this technique the belt stays 'single' at the back.

yea but the guy did a mistake. the tag on the belt (it can be black or red) should be on the LEFT side. thats where ur stripes go.
