@Keithy684 I would rather a multihull any day over a monohull. More hulls to keep you afloat and a better chance of survival should you have water ingress. Not only the fact you don't have tons of lead trying to sink you while trying to keep you upright! Bit like a helicopter and a glider! You just have to know what your doing.

"Fastest monohull" is like "tallest midget". Move the righting moment above the waterline. Get a trimaran and challenge Banque Populaire and Groupama for the real records!

@catsailordude BMW oracle, fastest boat in the america's cup was a trimaran, and after that is Alingi, a cat. However on an open ocean race, a monohull will merely broach and then get back up. but if a trimaran or cat goes over it's gone over, you're likely to break the mast as well, so a monohull is the safer alternative.

And while you have google open take a look at "Banque Populaire V" for the current transatlantic record and "Groupama 3" for the current around the world record.

Safer is a matter of perspective. I'd consider a mutihull floating upside down on the surface safer than a monohull resting right side up on the bottom.

Today's fast monhulls aren't self righting. You can find lots of pictures of upside down racing monohulls these days. They're really a lot like racing dingys - wide beam, wide transoms, and very little ballast.
