My dad had shell shock for a while after Vietnam, he used to sleep with a huge knife under his pillow when he came home. He would wake up screaming many nights for years, he pulled the knife on my mom a number of times thinking she was an NVA or VC.
He never told me what he saw or did over there but he has was awarded a purple heart for his heroism.
incredibly well done. this is fantastic. i respect the creator of this video tremendously for having done such a great job. not only did you make more people aware of the horrors of war, but you created a brilliantly well-done short film. two thumbs up, my friend.
Same with my cus, he was in the JNA in the balkan war, and he would be fine one minute next minute he would keep looking up and not say a word for like 30 minutes, its hard to make them snap out of it.
what is more sad is that not all elderly people are offered help or seat at bus and trains by youngster or men in suite but they fighted for this generation to have country and to live that is the sads od all. some of these oldder people might be suffering all there lives
my grandfather was also in ww2. sometimes he used to stare into space and start muttering things about germans and stuff and start swearing for no apparent reason. if i wanted his attention i had to call him a few times before he realized i was calling him, then he would come to with a wild look in his eyes. i was a lot younger then and just thought it was how old people were, but now i know he was reliving the war. he refused to talk about what happened during the war.
the thousand yard stare... shellshock is horrible. all it takes is a strange noise and that would be it. my grandpa thought the red lights on top of a radio tower were incoming planes and waved a white hankerchief. then he thought there were germans or japs outside and he was trying to negotiate with them. He also had Alzheimers, but the fact he was in WWII may have had a bigger influence on him...

Hm, neat. My grandfather was in world war 2, and he always had twitches and sometimes seemed like he was in another world.
