  • Can't wait to see them at T in the Park and Heaton Park. Just hope Dirty North are supporting them :)

  • GODS.

  • Such bitterness...

  • Never got tickets. Will it be another Reading 96?

  • Check my cover out folks

  • I was there. Great memories of a great gig!

  • i knew the boys would be back lol

  • second coming shouldve dominated america in 94/95 instead of shitty grunge drivel like pearl jam, soundgarden etc. squire on his album was simply amazing

  • @shebangsthedrums89 Being a Manc i adore the Stone Roses, but i also love the grunge scene, and have you ever actually listened to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains? Some of the greatest bands ever

  • I was at this. Ian brown spoke only once ,to say he'd met Gerry Adams the day before.

  • american's never really understud them ... they were loved on there own patch though...

  • First video i've seen of these guys. Opens my eyes to what they, I knew, were capable of that their albums only hint at. Their most euphoric material has gone way under-recognized by the American audience. They need to pay attention, it's not too late to ride the wave of a surging internet awakening!

  • Still the top british band of my generation!!!!!!!!!!FUCK RANGERS, FOREVER

  • love blasting this song out of me car down the motorway ........Stop hogging the middle lane you fucking arsehole!

  • John Squire touches me where girlfriends can't

  • @aderham6 LMAO legend

  • The kingdom's all inside.

  • Squire rocks it with his solo at the end - Legendary

  • I've no problems with Ian Brown's studio voice. Also I can see how Squire matured as a live guitarist between '89 and Second Coming. He seems lazy on Resurrection, Blackpool and his flanger drowned his playing on some songs.

  • i know the audio from this was used on Crimson Tonight..Does anyone have a link to the whole gig ?

  • since the ep release many years ago ive always hoped to see this mighty set on video, just wish there was a better quality release

  • I worked for them on this their final tour in 95 and Ian Brown was not the greatest singer live but he had a fucking an amazing presence on and off stage !! Great studio band though :)

  • watch?v=46CNp89_52Y

  • Get Crimson Tonight on eBay.

It's worth 10 times what it'll cost you.

The jamming in between songs is effortlessly genius.

    X

  • Ian Brown was always the glaring weak link in the band, in my opinion. If it weren't for the rest of the boys in the band laying down such righteous licks and backbeat, there's no way I'd listen to that tosser. Just can't sing. Merely passable vocals in the studio recordings, and downright awful live. I always wished that the Roses had a better vocalist or preferably even two or three for harmony.

Great stuff even despite the vocals, but still, SO much unrealized potential.

  • @JustAFocus Couldn't agree more...Still, i find a sort of charisma in Ian, wich is a plus... But anyway, a shitty singer surrounded by really talented musicians... That's the truth...

  • @LucianoGallagher Without Ian the stone roses wouldn't be half as good, brown and squire are the best combination

  • @campbelllovescock John and Ian wrote the debut all by themselves... I can't deny it, as much as i dislike the singing, i cannot deny the songwriting...

  • @campbelllovescock Nut nut nut, Mani and Reni and were the ones who brought the Groove, dude, Squire, Couzens and Brown were the Colours.

  • @JustAFocus You're spot on, especially considering how minimal his writing contributions were at the end. I'd much rather see the Roses reform without him.

  • classic

  • they dont seem the same without reni

  • @anthny9999 that's a very rhetorical question , you answered your own question

of course they weren't the same band , robbie did a brilliant job on this whole tour

seeing as he had little time to learn the songs

  • emma i love you

  • Ian just makes me cringe in this video - at least in 89 he looked cool doing it.

  • The Second Coming WAS The Roses for me and my mates. Untouchable legends.

  • I love Squire's leaning and staggering around while rocking that guitar! He's the best.

Ian just seems kinda half-there. He's nowhere near the same Ian from the Blackpool '89 video.

  • Fucking miss this band sooo much.!!

  • Totally agree with Johnny1lap, Squires is defo up there with the best, this track shows off his Mastery of his instrument, love it! Jx

  • I remember Dave Fanning playing this gig in Cork live over the radio and I taped on cassette off the stereo (sorry kids, I'm 36 forgive my "old-speak")...anyway I still have it and occasionally listen to it. The versions of "Driving South" and "Tightrope" from this Roses gig are awesome; I believe they released an EP of five or six songs from the show as "Crimson Tonight" or something like that. Check it out, much recommended.

  • @Zeus184 Ha ha!! yes! i remember recording that on cassette that night on the radio!my finger on the stop button so i wouldnt record the adverts!!Tightrope indeed is great on that EP .

  • i was at this gig.the third day of a magical weekend.i could hardly believe it the day i woke up and it was announced....Stone Roses headlining 2 miles from my front door! i dont care what anyone says, i was there,3 rows from the front, and they were amazing. no one can ever take from me the feeling i had as a 15 year old going mental to the Stone Roses live.Everyone has a sound track to their youth and im thankful they were my band.im 31 now but will forever remember that day.

  • Best song ever written.... it really gets me down i will never see John Squire Play the guitar again :'(

  • @thenewfella1994 hahahah^^i am breaking into heaven like ian right now:D

  • Second Coming has gained much respect over the years. Very strong album the got caught in the wake of Oasis' first Album. It's a shame Reni quit. He was the glue.

  • where's reni? o_O there is someone else on drums ?

  • @Lukith66 Reni had already left the band in March 1995 (this footage above is August 1995), the person playing drums here is Robbie Maddix who played until the band dissolved completely.

  • @Lukith66 he left the band before this tour

  • @Lukith66 I think this was after his mountain biking accident and he broke his wrist and then he quit.

  • 啧啧啧,这吉他~~~

  • Ian brown has this 'stage presents' that you just cant explain.... its a sign of a legend

  • did john and mani switched sides in the second coming tour era?

in the old days, john usually took the right side of the stage (that is the left side from the audiences point of view)

    hmm............

  • @febiecha yes. a la mr jimmy page.

  • one of the best off the album - nice one to see it live..cheers

  • That's true a Les Paul and a Marshall & right pedals are a match made in heaven...Killer tones what a great solo....

  • Amazing how f-ing good Squire became on guitar by the end of the Roses! Just think what this band could have done if they'd manage to stay together... I still want to know what really happened between Ian and Reni, which was the beginning of the end of TSR.

  • I was playing this album last week when driving second coming a brilliant.

  • id pay 500 quid a ticket to watch them live again since i was to young first time ;./

  • such an under rated band and album, no one liked second coming but as soon as squire got a gibson lp and a marshall it was so fuking good

  • hahaha this was a day before i was born

    awesome.

  • I was there quality weekend!! The Orb and Orbital played too pity Reni had left the band by then!

  • This makes me want to return to England

  • @jarbo26 this gig was in cork ireland

  • wtf Renis turned black lol

  • haha the ironic thing is tht reni was black haha

  • this gig was just down the road from where i live.... cudnt go cos i was jst 6 at the time!

  • I was at this gig was only 19 at the time paul weller played that day too.. great gig! think orbital closed the show that night they played after the stone roses i think..

  • oh the guitar!!!

  • brown can sing though check out glasgow green

  • Ian Brown is the coolest frontman since Jim Morrison.

  • they played in ireland and i wasnt told????

  • @frunk2007 Talk about hitting a moving target, eh? LOL

  • I was there, it was a cracking gig. The man is cool. Would so love to see recording of Ten Storey Love Song played at this same gig. Anyone got hidden clips xx

  • sanguru100. its clear ur not a fan.ian brown has never been a technically gifted singer but that was never the point.he was one of the last truly cool frontmen.i was there that night and it was a magical experience to see ian john and mani together live on stage.and he actually did a decent job overall that night with his vocals.tightrope sounded immense and he even reached the high notes on resurrection as well!!Squire was just ridiculously good too.Bottom line is these lads had soul and groove

  • worst singer ever, best frontman ever

  • Sadly Sanguru100 you have brought up in a culture where its not the records you produce but the fake stage persona that make the music media love you or not and youve been sucka'd in nevermind with a higher IQ or different sexuality you might not have been so upset that king monkey didnt shake his ass for u keep jerking off to MTV at your favourite dancer forget about the music eh?

  • mate you need to grow the fuck up, and stop goin on roses videos and givin em shit cos they made my fukin favourites ever and he ant killed it cos he co wrote alot of the songs, so jump into a well you dick.

  • this kinda funk inspired guitar with wah wah just kills me, its the best

  • f... great guitar!!

  • who gives a shit who you hate? no one, so keep to your fuck sad self.

  • Oh you sound like a really lovely person - warmhearted, caring... am I right?

  • Dead right, now stop your whining

  • that's what i love about youtube - the sense of community it fosters

  • Ian said alot of the time on the tour he had to shout as Squire was using 4 hotwired Marshall Amps to bolster his guitar sound. If you listen to the acoustic tracks performed on the tour, Ian's voices a lot better.

  • @stoneroses22

John was using 2x 70's Fender Silverface twins. They were at on 7 on the master volume. The other 2 on stage were back ups. I know. I twiddles with em!! But yes they were hotwired( Top end boosted, like mine!!) But, he is using a real 59 standard. Oh yeah!!

  • @justinproducer

Phew, 2 x70's you say. I heard he was using a Master Jango 10.40 Wannabooster as well. This in turn was wired through a Nutler Humdinger with gold plated Archer pick ups. Sound right to you? You sound like you might know

  • @stoneroses22

Phew, hotwired you say. I heard he was using a Master Jango 10.40 Wannabooster as well. This in turn was wired through a Nutler Humdinger with gold plated Archer pick ups. Sound right?

  • great nite.got to smoke a joint with tricky on the saturday.one cool fella.

  • The Roses were awesome, everything about them was top. Great tunes, great lyrics and refused to bend over when their record company were f u c king them. Top boys. Deserve to go down as one of the all time greats.

  • i was there...fu*king brill

  • you lot its not x factor ians voice is shit hot clean out your ears

  • wow! ian really couldn't be arsed there... still sounds amazing. John was realy geting into it

  • got to be the worst singer in the world................but still fuckin brilliant!!!!!!!!!

  • Horrible live singer...brilliant on album.

  • @asadav you knob...

  • wot u on about? ians vocals sound alright

  • i dont care how bad they were. i just want they to play again

  • I think Ian would have sang better, but John did have 4 Fender twin amps set up, so Ian had to shout rather then sing at times. On the acoustic tracks they did live like Your star will shine and Tightrope, his vocal was pretty good.

  • I remember listening to a bootleg of the gig I went to on the Second Coming tour & IB's vocals were weak but at the acual gig everything sounded amazing. The Stone Roses had a massive presence & vibe about them, almost magical. The way that they fell apart was a shame but at least they didn't end up like Oasis- 15 years on & churning out tripe (although they'd be better off financially!).

  • brown's vocals are embarrasing. totally ruins the song....again.

  • This is fucking ACE!

  • shit,they were fuckin top's.

  • One of their best song imo, prefer the version with the 4 minute extended intro. Have to agree Brown isn't on top here but saw him live last year and he was immense. Squire is amazing as always, one of the most underrated guitarists ever.

  • still the greatest, still sounds as good 14 years later. 2nd coming was different however a ' gem ' . Top drawer, ian brown golddust. man u 2009 get in

  • You'd think you were listening to the album cut of the song with that guitar solo. Squire is an amazing guitarist.

  • Was there up the front for this...Feile Cork in 95..great memories!!! Squire was on fire

  • johns guitar playing is epic in this video

  • Nothing more to say than FUCKING GENIUS! The power in this song is incredible! Oh and shame Reni wasn't there... *Cries buckets of tears* :'o( But ego-Maddix didn't do too bad though... still would have preferred Reni...oh well

  • My favourite stone roses song-what a tune. John Squire is a fucking epic guitarist-can't believe he's turned his back on music in preference for art.

He is shit-hot in this version too. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of Ian Brown...although he was a great frontman over the years.

  • I don't think that's John Squire. Definitely not Reni, and it doesn't look like Mani, either. Probably this is 96 and not 95. Aziz and Robby Maddix. Don't know who would've replaced Mani.

  • Comment removed

  • that is john squire and it is mani as well.

mani was there till the end (reading 96) and was never replaced. aziz was there for their reading fesstival performance and thats it. this is from '95. it is maddix on drums though.

squire is fucking epic in this performance, his guitar playing on the second coming shows was so much more heavier (solo to IATR sounding so much better on the tour as well imo)

  • are you blind?

Live In Cork Ireland (Feile) - 5 August 1995

  • it is mani he just got long hair

  • okay, mani with long hair. probably squire, too. the film director must have been in love with ian brown and robbie maddix -- you don't see anyone's face other than theirs. and, frankly, it just doesn't sound like squire normally sounded live, in my opinion.

  • What The Fuck ohgimemo. Ian Brown has one of the best array of vocal talents ever. He's just not into it here, he's already left the band in his heart.

  • man, the stone roses are my favourite band

but listen to them live in blackpool

his voice isn't the best live

and you can't say he wasn't into it then

  • Johnny is the only one really enjoying this, with the Les Paul and just his demeanour on stage. Back in 89 he was just standing in one place playing the 'quiet' guitar player.

  • How did the Roses get signed with Ian's voice? My God, it sounds like they paid some drunken idiot who was a devout fan that new all the words. Ian is just slaughtering this song. Maybe investing a part of that 5 million pound advance (from Gefen) on vocal lessons wouldn't have been a bad idea...

  • Comment removed

  • i fucking love the second coming...........

  • drunmmer is not mani?

    is this from 1995 tour?

but this song from first album?

  • No Mani is the bass player. Reni was the original drummer, he left and was replaced by Robbie Maddox

Yes this is from the Feile Festival, Ireland 95

This tune is on the second album, its the first track

  • creamo i totally agree with you...the vocal intonation is so off especially when he sing I want to break right into heaven...the note is flat and he sustains it. For a musician its like YOU ARE SO CLOSE but not there...its hard to listen to without cringing.

  • Can't beleive I was there...

    *flashback..* :-o

  • I love the music but the vocals are a bit crap

  • thats the stone roses, ian brown is a showman, not a vocal coach lol.........

  • hope someone can answer this,is there a complete video of this show?

    thanks

  • God knows I'd love to see that happen too mate, but unfortunately it seems Ian and John here haven't sort out their differences yet, and I don't really see that happening any time soon, it's sad, really.

  • Apparently John wants to go ahead with it, it's just that they're trying to get Ian Brown on board with the idea.

Still, I haven't got a single clue why everyone thinks Second Coming is one of the worst albums ever. I like it a bit more than the debut, but it does lack the anthems that The Stone Roses had...

Breaking Into Heaven's one of the best songs on there too.

  • I know mate, it bothers me too. The Stone Roses had a lot of magic into it, but Second Coming favours John's Rock N' Roll Guitar a whole lot more.

Breaking Into Heaven is in my favourites, definitively.

  • John definitely doesn't want to go ahead with it, not at all!

  • jakeenan is talking sense. four members .fine tunes. talk of a reform last week 14 12 08. lets hope they sort it for all the real fans still yearning for the third album fix.

  • 1st is great

    2nd is great too.

especially this song. ill never forget when i got this cd.

i was waiting 5years to get piece of them.

also im still waiting my bloody valentine...

    how many years ami waiting?

i cant even remember that! lol

  • John plays really tight here it's brilliant

  • why reni?!?!? WHY?!?!? oh it could've been so much better with reni, the greatest drummer on earth. it's just not the same with robbie, he keeps good time, but reni was just so smooth, so natural. and i don't really care for the keyboards.

don't get me wrong, i've listened to and studied every live performance i can find. i love the roses!

-stone roses fan in west texas (the only one, i think)

  • If I remember right, at this time they came on stage to the sound effects at the start of this song, played Adored & then went into this. Brilliant. Having keyboards was over doing it a bit. Love Spreads is up there with their best.

  • You're dead right. They did the long loopy intro to this, then did IWBA, then finished this. Brilliant start. I was too excited at the time to notice the dodgy vocals, but anyway that's why gigs are so different to listening in yer front room, there was so uch more tha just music going on that day. We only went for SR, but do you remember Orbital afterwards? absolutely wild !

  • I saw them at Leicester De Monfort Hall, I don't think anyone was on afterwards & I can't remember who supported them although someone was giving out Bluetones fliers beforehand & that was a time when I kept seeing them supporting bands like The Charlatans. Bluetones gigs were very dull..

  • second coming is great.anyone who gets to heavy about it not being as good as the first album is a cunt.take it for what it is. top tunes.

  • and breaking into heaven isn't one of their best tunes? There are some classics on second coming. Tears? How do you sleep? Love Spreads? Ten Storey? Tightrope?. Anyone who describes second coming as 'awful' has not a clue. Tears alone is worth the cover price.

  • People who write off Second Coming are basically just saying "I know nothing about music, please scissor kick me in the mouth"

  • Comment removed

  • @DrumnFACE love that dude.. nice one

  • @DrumnFACE Nah man, the album is good but it was too much of a departure from the first. if they had stuck to being the Stone Roses instead of Squires the wanker trying to be Jimmy Page everything would have been cool. They ere the coolest band in the world and they became a sad shitty shadow of what they could have been. I was at this concert and it was one of the high points of my life. But Squires fucked up his legacy with the skag and the crap guitat solos. Wanker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @radiobeefan squire is the man the white jimmy

  • @radiobeefan Are you being serious? If you think this is a crap guitar solo then clean your ears out mate.

  • @radiobeefan ur a twat..second comeing is a fucking classic...ya only have to look at state of music now 2realize that....if they put out same sounding record as first everybody be moaning they were repeating themselfs...they cant win with twats like u..2classic albums that wont be beat.

  • Ian Brown...l'art de la pose et de l'attitude...Quant à sa manière de chanter...c'est assez effrayant...Mais moi, je lui pardonne...j'aime ce gars !!!!

  • "He ain't too young or pretty and he sure as hell can't sing" as Squire sang......wonder who on earth he could have been singing about?

Stone Roses = George Best of music

  • If only Ian Brown could sing in tune

  • What kind of dissipated, lethargic bullshit is this? The only thing Brown is breaking into is mediocrity's butt crack.

  • Oh what could have been.I dont care what anybody says,Second Coming matches if not surpases the first album. They could of had it all. What a waste.

  • How can you say that?! The first album is streets ahead - it was fresh, innovative, urgent, and made by a band at their creative peak. It is only natural that it would be better than an album made as the band fell apart and one man was in total charge.

  • Ian just isnt into it..but John rocks it!!

  • OUCH! help! my ears!

  • I'm amazed to find 2 songs from Feile on YouTube - I assume the whole gig was filmed. Anyone know whether this is available anywhere?

  • ..they surrended

  • Pardon? I can't believe we still have narrow minded people to this extent.

    Fuck's sake. Grow up, man.

  • classic song, lovin it

  • "What Squire forgot above all was: they made each other great"

    jakeenan

Absolutely agreed. If I won Euromillions I doubt I could convince them to play together again - goodness knows I'd try.

Awesome band, wish I was old enough first time round.

That said, I'm old enough to know they don't make them like this any more...

Disagree with some thoughts on second coming though - as a stand alone album it's brilliant, outstanding. Listen to it more than any.

  • I saw them in Sydney in 95 and have Squire leaning back with his gibson shillouetted against the smoke tattooed on my brain!

I also disagree with comments about 2nd coming being less than brilliant. It's fkn brilliant and I listen to it everyday. I can't say that about any other album. I still wear the flared jeans and the moptop hair coz its me altogether which is why I love the roses so much. they are me in the form of music! thk god Ian is still groovin away!

  • it was never about the money for these guys, pitty they hate each other so musch, such a great band

  • sounds like he cant be arsed at all and that comparison between brown and picasso was quite good

  • Don't think they did, would have been great to hear live though

  • They all look cool as fuck, and this performance is quality....Did they ever perform Groove Harder live anywhere? Time probably ran out I suppose.

  • ian brown is the swarvest mother fucker on this planet

  • there is one thing ian brown could never be accused of, and that's a lack of ability to sing in tune.. the guy is so good he doesnt have to hit the notes or sing with energy. he is the musical version of picasso and if you guys dont get it you just dont understand man.....

  • Well said Daverees ....

  • oh sorry. obviously robbie maddix

  • Is this reni drumming on this, or was it after he left?

  • Reni never toured the Second Coming. Reni was the backbone and soul of the Roses- and as good as John Bonham in my view. The Second Coming live stuff is the Roses going through the motions. But even an average Roses gig and tune wipes the floor with most other bands. Its a shame they blew it. Their groove was as good as Led Zep. Reni never drummed again. Brown and Sq
