"The word in Tibetan for hope is rewa; the word for fear is dokpa. More commonly, the word re-dok is used, which combines the two. Hope and fear is a feeling with two sides. As long as thereís one, thereís always the other." --Pema Chodron
"Question Everything" was a great way to begin this video! Throughout history nearly every (with a few key exceptions) have held women responsible for every bit of "evil" and destruction imaginable... and the story of Pandora's Box is yet another example. At the very least... the story was lost in translation. "Box" is a mistranslation of pithos, which more accurately means "jar". There is a major ramifications for this error. Pithos were large and often used like coffins for containing bones.
Because of this reference. and the work of some scholarly research, there is a good possibility that what we have come to know of the myth of Pandora's Box is actually based on another myth about Eros (aka Cupid) and Psyche. There are two nice write ups of this story at w w w . a r c h i p e l a g o . o r g / v o l 4 - 4 / w o o d w a r d . h t m and at w w w . p l o t i n u s . c o m / m y t h _ c u p i d _ p s y c h e _ c o p y . h t m. This myth then takes on an entirely different meaning!
This second curse was Pandora. Zeus gave her as a wife to the slow-witted Titan, Epimetheus, and then entrusted him with a box containing the ills of the world. Disobeying her husbands orders to leave the box untouched, Pandora opened the lid and released a collection of evil spirits, which, from that day forward, wreaked havoc on the world.* In punishment for her disobedience, Zeus sentenced Pandora and all her daughters to experience difficult
(1) The Deadly race and tribes of womankind, Great pain to mortal men with whom they live, Helpmeets in surfeit—not in dreadful need. Just as in ceilinged hives the honeybees Nourish the drones, partners in evil deeds, And all day long, until the sun goes down, They bustle and build up white honeycombs, While those who stay inside the ceilinged hives Fill up their bellies from the others work, So women are a curse to mortal men— As Zeus ordained—partners in evil deeds.
(3) childbirth. Having demonstrated the untrustworthiness of her gender, she-and all women yet unborn-were to be dominated by their fathers and then by their husbands.
Pandora disobeyed the order not to open the box because she desired knowledge. Her crime and punishment mirror Eves in Eden. Both stories have the same purpose: to denigrate women, demote the Great Mother, and create a myth that enabled men to dominate women. Women must have possessed power prior to the creation of these (cont)
(4) stories, or it would not have been necessary for mythmakers to try to alter cultural perceptions. **
* Since the Greek word for box, pyxis, was also slang for a womans vagina, Hesiods myth also contained an unflattering pun.
** Pandora is an ambiguous name. It can mean bearer of all gifts (an honorific frequently used to address the Great Mother in prayer) or it can mean taker of all gifts. In Hesiods telling, her name assumes the second, mean-spirited, definition.
Actually Hope is the 8th evil. It is the evil that breaks your heart and soul. When you see what you know is evil you "Hope" that evil will be stopped only to have your prayers go unanswered. Once you realize their is no real "Hope" that it is just an evil trick played on you by the Gods you are then truely destroyed. So there is your definition of why there were really 8 evils in that box.
@Danalegs36 : I always thought that Pandora actually did us a favour by keeping Hope inside - we remain on our own and can think and act... all from the human heart, with respect , of course.

Thanks for sharing, imaginative999..
I think you should maybe forgive, but never end to hope..
I hope..
That we all understand the wrongs and finally could see each other like ONE..
That we all stop to consider 'material things' and crushing others as a purpose of civilization..
And close forever this awful box of horrors..
