Comparing Astrud to Streisand is pointless. Streisand is pure Broadway - Hollywood...expansive, self-dramatising, brassy & sassy...Astrud's sound is quintessentially private & unschooled...innocent on the surface, but hinting at the profound mysteries of the entire Bossa Nova canon! Personally I love them both for their VERY diffirent reasons.

tony, I am not sure what you were expecting, but this is pure Astrud. She was not a professional singer, but her quiet, simple, unaffected, and shy style captivated everyone.

Her husband convinced her to sing Girl From Ipanema on one of his recordings and people loved it. She defined the Bossa Nova singing style and became a worldwide sensation.
