  • The Emperor Basil order to cut hair to her son, the future Emperor Leo VI.

  • A very good work, well done.

I was surprised to watch a miniature of the ship launching the Greek fire. Does the book describe which marine battle attached to the miniature ? and most importantly, against whom ?

  • Greek fire or liquid fire first used against the Pisans who were skilled in warfare at sea.The idea started when the Emperor ordered the construction on all the ships of bronze and iron heads of lions and other wild animals with open mouths and covered in gold leaf. The liquid fire that was to attack the enemy would pass through the mouths of these heads, so that it would appear verily that they were vomiting forth flames.

  • would you be so kind as to tell which was the "composition" of this liquid fire?

i've heared a lot about the greek fire, but almost nothing about the sustances used to burn.

    thks.

  • no1 knows the original composition of liquid fire but there are many exo-heat chemical reactions that cant stop with water similar to the liquid fire reaction

  • @naly202 No one knows to this day.

  • Istabul has nothing to do with turks and the great Byzantine Empire. Don't flatter your self turks! All the monuments that escaped your fury and u use them today as tourist attraction are greek-roman-byzantine.

Istanbul (Is tin Poli) is a greek word that means ''To the City (Costantinople -Constantinoupolis-Polis (City) of Constantine.
