  • Getting really irritated by that little piano riff...and Anne's constant moping. It's really quite depressing.

  • A modern adaptation of this could be hilarious. "Haven't seen you.. in a while... yep... Soooo..... Yeah....."

  • Kinda wish I could see the look on Wentworth's face had he been present to see Elliot take Anne's hand

  • If you guys like period pieces and understand spanish you should check out Pasion, Alborada, Amor Real or Corazon Salvaje...

  • omg these comments are hilarious!

  • providence my ass

  • "dead, quite dead" lol

  • Holy sideburns, Batman!!

  • For some reason, this Mr. Elliot reminds me of Robert Ferrars from the 1995 version of Sense and Sensibility.

  • @PrincessAnya91 OMG you're soo right i knew that i've seen him before Lolol =D

  • @Rozziogirl86 No, I checked and I'm wrong. The actor who plays Mr. Elliot never worked prior to 2000.

  • @tdiggs45 -- i believe that's snuff... Or

maybe it was cocaine pretending to be snuff! ;)

  • Okay did anyone else see that at 1:48 Anne's father just snorted coke? Seriously...

  • @tdiggs45 i´m quite sure it was "normal" for gentlemen to do that. you can see it in many novels (i.e.dorian grey, sherlock holmes)- it´s like this dangerous thing, that everyone wanted to get to know or something like that. i´m not sure if it was legal, but still^^;

  • dont flatter urself elizebeth! Mr.Elliot is not after u...u old ugly hag! HE IS AFTER ANNE AND THE ESTATE! wentworth such a clueless man since he didnt realize that Luisa and he was considered couples by others!

  • Is he snorting cocaine at 1:45???

  • For goodness sake woman! Take off that stupid stupid hat.

  • the book says that mr. elliot is not handsom but is a gentleman with good manners!

  • Uhhh..why is the acting in this SO LAMEEEE??? Anne isnt too bad but Mr Elliot is a JOKE and a half! Including his face which was *supposed* to be handsome?! Same goes for Elizabeth, she was meant to be stunning. And I dont remember Mary being a spastic in the books, just a bit of a drama queen.

Ugh..this is the problem with watching movies of books, they tend to kill the magic! >.<

  • @Muslimah1987 BTW the reason for Mr. Elliot the way he asks is because HES FAKE!!! OF COURSE hes supposed to be a BAD actor; but noone notices that!!

  • The book describes Mr. Elliott as handsome. I think not!

  • HA keep on dreaming Louisa - apparently you've taken more then fall to the head.

  • Anne looks like Cinderella :p

  • You would think that Lady Russell would have made provisions for Anne to have better dresses than she had or at least restyled some of Elizabeth's hand me downs.

  • That white room everyone is walking around in is like the Victorian era version of Facebook.

  • @sarahannevaughan1 Regency era, regency.. Victorian era is much later..

  • @sarahannevaughan1 I just about fell out of my chair at your comment!!! So funny-it really does look like that!!!

  • And let's all pause as the baronet fixes his curl.

  • her father is quite Vain!!

  • This poor guy. "You're marrying her, right?" "What?! No I'm not!" "Everyone says you are, especially her family!" "Well FUUUUUUU"

  • @vikingoddess3890 perfectly translated.

  • I love how being attracted to your cousin was just no big thing back in the day. Now it's illegal (in most places) haha.

  • Mr Elliot= total rake!

  • Mr. Elliot does seem to talk with a mouthful of marbles . . . such a drawl!

  • why are all the heroines in austen movies dressed down in muted plain colors...particularly brown, while everyone around them is dressed impecably?

  • @melissaturkey2011 not all of them just some. Emma dressed more extravagantly than others...actually you're right lol only emma dressed better

  • are the english a little above their head, that louisa girl was literally throwing herself at the guy, all he did was play with her like a little sister. just cause he helped her, while her skull was cracking open, that means he likes her n intends to marry her, wow that is soo hilarious and plain stupid

  • Die lady Russell , die!!!!

  • 5:55 ... Screww you Lady Russell, this is all your fault!

  • I read this in High School and I don't remember, is Anne's sister Elizabeth supposed to be younger than her? She looks ancient compared to Anne...

  • @missShylocks older

  • @missShylocks lol I thought that was her mother!

  • Winningisforlosers. Haha, lol true dat.

  • 2 words can b said of mr. eliot peanut head

  • I've only been acquainted with Mr. Elliot for 30 seconds and I already want to punch his smarmy smile in!

  • mr. elliott can't stop saying extraordinary lol

  • Is it just me or does anyone else want to punch Mr. Elliott's (cousin) smug face?

  • Anne's crooked smile is adorable!

  • That Mrs Clay is far too attractive - in the book she had "freckles" and "a protruding tooth"!

  • Why is she curtsing to her own horrible and backstabbing sister?

She is nothing compared to you. Disgusting creature.

  • why are they walking in the room and talking? So funny!

  • @AVBKansas hahaha. ya lol.

  • bleh. my teeth are crooked and I talk in a sleezy fashion, my voice goes UP & down

  • @whatwouldjanedoGD I'm guessing you're talking about Mr. Elliot, right? At first I read your comment, and I was like, 'okay, why would anyone care?' then after watching this part of the video I was like 'duh!' :)

  • Mr. Eliot's manners are so funny... especially when he bows ;D

  • BORG QUEEEEEEEEEN!!!! godmother. O____O

  • @RoronoaEmi holy moly! i read your comment and had to look it up... that's just.. whoa

  • What is sickening is that the elite are still here today. In this period, they met in such places to walk around and meet other rich people, while in most of london, people were starving to death. There are people today who still feel most of us are beneath them. Time to get rid of such class predjudice.

  • Is it just me or did anyone else envision Mr. Elliot much more handsome.? and Anne's sister as much younger?

  • Sorry but she has a cold sore on her lips:////////Shit happens but why didn`t they put some make-up on it or refresh it when it wore down

  • It's weird how all they do is walk around in a room and talk.

  • @0omgw3tf that's why austen hated that place, i reckon :)

  • I love how he comes to the realsation that he's attached himself in others eyes to Lousia when he was only trying to make Anne jealous, trying to show her that he can in fact be happy with out her when the reality is that he can not. Anne is his reason for being, why else would he come back to the place that holds "unhappy memories" for him? He returned in hope that Anne was still available to him and he could maybe win her back even though she hurt him the way she did.

  • Someone please tell me why is Anne always in dull, drab colours, she looks depressing!

  • @chevycheckonit they didn't want to put her in anything beautiful for the simple fact that it might come across that she is like her family, self centred and shallow, looks are important to them where as Anne would "dress down" in order to try and conserve what money her family has left. She is like her mother rather than her father.

  • @chevycheckonit The coloring is a juxtaposition of character and personality between her stern father and witchy sister. Anne's clothing is not necessarily drab. It's actually warm tones that she wears, signifying her warm and caring nature, versus the cool tones of her father and sister, which signifies their self-centered and all about appearance-countenance and personality.

  • @Lee10gasten Wow, did you work on the set as a costume designer? That was cool and informative. Tell me more! lol

  • @nsb5Q322 LOL! No, I'm not a costume designer. But I will take that as a compliment. I do a lot of reading and I'm the type of someone to look for things such as costumes and a person's personality. I think when one watch enough period piece dramas and read Jane Austen, one tends to become a pro :). Take for example, Pride and Prejudice (Kiera Knightly version). If you watch that, look at the colors in that movie. From the houses down to the Bennet sisters gowns. It tells a lot!

  • "dead, quite dead"....says the female dog

  • @thomipamp I disliked her sister for that comment; the disrepect in her voice was horriable but the actress plays the part brilliantly, she makes you hate her character. ^_^

  • only? Capitan Benwick?

  • I can't help loving the way they always say, "Capital" :)

  • wish i could have romantic tension in my life! sighh

  • The dark ages are due to sheer Idioties of peoples.

  • What kind of a place is this where people walk in circles?

  • @Aphroditeuf16 its called Indianapolis! ;op

  • I keep expecting Lady Russell to say 'Resistance is Futile!!' =P

  • @Kitty956 me too, the borg is still in her!

  • Elliot is so accursedly Pompous sounding!!!! GRAH!

  • why are they walking in circles?

  • I always found some of the things in the storyline curious. If you bother to read the book, it makes sense. This version is the least true to the book, though beautifully filmed and RUPERT is ..... beautiful. What frustrates me so much is that there are so many chances for them to talk and they don't until it's almost too late. This is explained in the book by his stubborness and resentment of her.

  • I always wondered if Lady Russel was just trying to keep Anne for herself... She seemed such a cynic and so alone at the same time. Anne seemed to be her only solace...

  • I really don't get Anne's parents!?!

  • @winningisforloosers Hahahaha I agree

  • wow he is a really horrible father.

  • Towards they end of this clip are in they all just walking around a room aimlessly and talking. Seems like a meeting place akin to todays coffee shops minus the coffee and a distinct lack of chairs!

  • @jaz88pa

The city of Bath was built on hot springs. In refined society is was kind of "instyle" to travel to Bath and partake of the healing waters of those spings.

That's what those people are doing in this clip - they have drink of spa water and then take a turn about the room.

  • Anne's dad's the prime minister from Little Britain! lol

  • @mystripeysocks haha...yeah...the one with the creepy secretary..

  • I know Mr. Elliot's one of the bad guys, but he's still really cute!

  • Man, her family is like a big group of Mr. Collinses. lol

  • goodness what has happened to the english language since jane austen's times?!?

  • You call it providential, I call it stalking.

  • @WinningisforLosers OMG lmao hahahahah i just laughed way too loud at this comment

  • @WinningisforLosers

lol, it wasnt stalking, it really was a conincidence...

  • @WinningisforLosers

    what a freak!!!

  • Jane Austen's themes of superficiality & snobbery, & her portrayal of the "caste system" of the day are remarkably fascinating!

  • Ughhhhhhh! how does she bear those b*******h of sisters!!!!!!!

  • HOLY SNAP!

    Mr. Elliot is gorgeous!!!! <3

  • @BtBbri He's Marcus Brutus in Rome!

  • Ann's father is such a self absorbed snob and could care less about her. He views Ann like she is nothing but a bother. How sad.

  • @ccomputa its called snuff, its like powder tobacco, very popular back in the day it basically like having a cigarette but without smoking because they were considered unattractive and common

  • Louisa would make an excelent wife? pff...she's bloody stupid!!

  • @anatinoni And a silly girl, not woman who needs to grow up and realize that jumping of steps and smashing your head is not the way to go about it all.

  • Elizabeth looks quite old!!

  • @anatinoni Elizabeth is supposed to be 29 in the book, so yes she's cast too old here. Also, she's supposed to be the MOST snobbiest of all the 3 sisters. Basically, she likes being admired & is waiting around for the richest guy she can get. But it's weird that no one calls her an old maid! Hmmm...

  • @knightleyemma that's very true, especially when they make it so clear that they would count Anne as an old maid.

  • Mrs. Clay is hot. I don't blame Sir Elliot for wanting to do the dirty with her. Actually, there's a lot of eye candy in this movie. Sexy times. ;)

  • it would be nice to see Anne with a softer hairdo. it looks like her hair is wet. but I like her very much. and Wentworth. dear man.

  • @ccomputa Yeah they do it in alot of films! I want to know what it is that they're snorting.

  • but Mr elliot, you are my cousin!

  • both captain wentworth and mr.elliot are relatively attractive ;)

  • wife? dead, quite dead lol

  • @ccomputa YEA? I thought soo too... either some crac or he has a cold? who knows.

  • What sort of idiot clicks "Dislike" on a clip after watching this adaption of Persuasion for an hour?

  • @ccomputa

Yes, he's snorting Snuff, very fashionable in Regency England. I wouldnt try it though, you can still buy it, mainly from Tobacconists and on line.

  • why must i fall in love with every single one of jane austen's men?

  • @ddaanniieellee1 Heh, even that priggish jerk, Edmund?

  • @thefreeair to begin with i did :P i dont know what is wrong with me

  • @ddaanniieellee1 LOL you're not the only one!!!

  • @ddaanniieellee1 because they are so handsome and rarely today we find men that have the same qualities be available. they are either gay, married and/or both.lol

  • @ddaanniieellee1 you are not alone :) Darcy, Frederick, they are simply perfect men

  • @khadoudja Don't forget Mr. Knighley! <3

  • @xmindframesafetyx you are right :) especially Knighley :)

  • @khadoudja

Darcy?lol..not in my case, the perfect man is John Thornton from Elizabeth Gaskells novel "Northa and Souh", wathat series on youtube, you will fall in love with THE PERFECT MAN EVER!

  • @Kareena1988 : they have some common point, both are confident, responsible, they know what they want, the qualities I like most in a man :) helas! they are rare in our time :-(

  • @khadoudja

yeah, I always wonder where such men live or dont they exist at all on earth?

    I really wonder..

  • @Kareena1988 :) as someone who believes in the hereafter I hope to find them there lol

  • @khadoudja

so, you wont let yourself fall in love with a normal guy here..?

  • @Kareena1988 No, no, I will, but I think we must be realistic somehow on this earth. and accept people like they are :)

  • @Kareena1988

I LOVE Thornton! He is pretty much perfect. I love Darcy, Wentworth and Thornton, because they're all tortured, brooding, beautiful souls. xD Not to mention portrayed by gorgeous men!

  • @BloodOfObsession

    good taste indeed=)

  • @ddaanniieellee1 I think, because she never married, she fell in love with all the men from her books to:P

  • @ddaanniieellee1 Because they are all imagined by a woman... Jane Austen knows exactly what we want!!! ;)

  • @iraqilynn agreed..

  • @ddaanniieellee1 because wen it comes to writing love stories and the men involed jane austen is THE best!!!

  • @chickflickaddict91 that's because Jane Austen had the talent for reading poeple and being able to transfer that on paper. Her descriptions of such charcters and the relations between them is ahead of her time. She will always be compared to but no one will be able to beat her skill at her writing. IMO though,

  • @halistra24 yes i agree with u on that!!

  • @ddaanniieellee1 because characters have to haunt us in order for the story to leave an impression on us, for the story to be SO GOOD! :)

  • @ddaanniieellee1 because they are all extraordinarily handsome, of good character and love with all their hearts. ^___^

  • @ddaanniieellee1 Because she makes them both Irresitable and really drop dead handsome:)

  • @ddaanniieellee1 why can't i find even one of Jane Austens men!!!

  • @Damdiea Im sorry to inform you that they are extinct ,and have been for quiet sometime now.

  • One of the coolest clothing of both sexes in regency times was on the woman, and you see it often in the films and read it in the books, a plain muslin gown, with long sleeves, a silk handkerchief round her neck and crossed in front,(easily as good as the cravat on the male) with parasol and gloves to match.

This clothing made even the plainest maiden look lovely and presentable.

  • I agree with pandorarevolt...Elizabeth is supposed to be extremely beautiful and not look a day over 18. She is rather overdone, and I think she had to be, because they got an actress who looked older. They should have used an actress who could play a mature woman, but who naturally looked younger, instead of applying a ton of makeup to an actress who didn't quite fit. Although I must say, she plays the part perfectly!

  • I want to smell him, I want to know what sexy and gorgeous smells like...anybody?

  • OMG Wentworth is sexy...i wonder if Anne ever thought that...probly not lol :P

  • She really does wear brown, like, all the time. Very upsetting.

  • The men have their nice waistcoats and cloaks billowing around them in the breeze, making them look all sophiscated yet why is it all the women dresses make them look like fat little lumps :(

  • @SkysongOfSerenity

The lady's look just as sophesticated and lovely in their high-waisted and muslin-gowned dresses, bonnets and hooded-cloaks and they would of been just as breezy if not more than the men.

At least the women were women back then, today its all tracksuits, jeans, trainers, big dangly earings and other disgusting clothing that kills feminity off.

    It's tragic.

  • The guy playing Mr Elliot - the young one has the face of a thug and a most distinct trace of cockney in his speech :)

  • NOOOOO WENTWORTH!!!!!!!! dont consider yourself bound to louisa!!

  • Oh my god! Cousin Elliot is Brutus from Rome! I loved that series! Nice sideburns, by the way. They're enormous. And I love how disgusted Wentworth is at the idea of marrying one of the Musgroves.

  • this is nit-picking, but i feel like reaching into the screen and undoing anne's hair, give her poor scalp a break. my head is aching just looking at her do. its s'damn... TIGHT

  • Elizabeth is older than Anne, yet Anne is considered the spinster, even though Elizabeth is not married either.

  • Anne's father is such a sissy! XC

  • wow! cousin eliot is TALL! haha! =))

  • They were just talking about Anne before she entered, and then pretended to be all smiles with her. Pishposh!

  • Ann is soooo pale. you have no idea how much it pisses me off

  • Just thought I'd share this...from an article:

SPOOKS star Rupert Penry-Jones isn't ashamed to admit he was overcome with emotion after filming his latest role. "I've seen it twice now and there's been tears flooding down my face both times. It's a different, gorgeous film."

  • 1:33 GILES!

  • Mr. Elliot is Brutus !

  • the costumes are ugly

  • mr,. e looked better in the 95 verson :)

  • @bchan89, I agree, the one in this version looks like a scarecrow. Also Elizabeth & Mrs Clay are better looking in this version. Not sure if that's true to the book though.

  • 4:35 Wentworth is astonished that Louisa believes he is romantically interested in her.... My goodness! Things have certainly changed. Seems as if in 1810s a man "looked or spoke" to a young woman he was next to being engaged... now adays "kisses are NOT promises" and "sharing a bed does not a commitment make".

  • Hell, even engagment rings aren't promises. Nor marriage really. Now people have choices. Amen for choices.

  • So what would be the point in the first place of been engaged? or married?

    UUGGHH!!

  • I'm not saying that, I am all for marriage. But back then people couldnt leave each other and were forced to stay in unhappy situations. Women were also property and dowrys in marriages. All I am saying is now we get to make a gamble, and it is on us whether or not it works and we go through with it. Thats all.

  • @suelizjohnson: He is astonished at first, but then realizes how "unguarded" he had been.
