One thing that I think is so funny is how everyone is bitching the bug didn't use the "special" key. That's how every owner would be driving the bug on the road. The key is useless except for exercises like these. It's a complete joke. Let's not mention that the McLaren won repeatedly in actual filming & the producer was getting pissed, because the Bug was suppose to win easily and was actually loosing. The engineering of the F1 is still a greater achievement hands down.

The bugatti is for the rich idiot, at over 200mph the bugatti's tyres MELT in minutes, the fuel runs out in about 12 mins, the gearbox reaches staggering temps, The F1 tho, ran at Le Mans all day and all night, not pitting in for refuel every 5 mins, these cars can consistently do these speeds, bugatti cannot.

Even to 60mph the Veyron is quicker - after that it leaves the F1 for dead - Top gear admitted that the Veyron had a problem and wasnt putting out full power and they didnt use the launch control - the Veyron would be even faster if it only had to meet the same safety and pollution standards of the F1 - the F1 is so hard to drive at high speed that most people would be faster in a Veyron on track or drag strip - F1 = race car , Veyron = Complete car (the SSC is a joke they havent even sold 10)

@PablooDee How is the Veyron a complete car? Has no no luggage space. Requires a separate key for top speed mode to unleash all the hp and even when that's done the car won't stay in top speed mode if the driver lets off the gas or turns the wheel more than a certain degree it will go out of top speed mode. The F1 has also been proven to be far more safe in a crash via crash test results. More technology equals less reliability over time. The bug wouldn't even last a 4hr race let alone 24hr race

The only reason the veyron wins that race is its a mile, 1/4 of a mile the mclaren would win, so they had to do a mile evidantly.. shame as the mclaren is SOO much better!

no, you get YOUR facts straight. The aerodynamic drag of the veyron with the rear wing up and the 20mm difference in ride height only makes a difference for TOP SPEED, not acceleration, expecially not below 200mph. The reason the Bugatti didnt do as well as it "should" have done is because of the heat in the desert. Hot air is lighter, less dense, therefore cant be compressed properly, producing less power.

Its an expression, and yes they mention that in the video. Let me translate that into Youtube speech. The F1 has the veyron by the balls in the quarter mile, but the veyron just has too much raw power and has a definite win in the mile. Its very impressive the F1 matches up to a car made 15 years later with almost 380hp more. So yeah, it may cost more now because it is a collector's item, but thats not the point.

i wondered that too, but they said in the Topgear mag covering the event that the heat had a massive effect on the veyron's engine, hence it needs 10 radiators to cool it down. I don't know how true that is however

and i will always give my respect to the F1 over the veyron. I believe the F1 is still the pinnacle of car development in the whole world. I mean, it's still naturally aspirated.... one of the few supercars left in the world that doesn't use forced induction.

I completely agree with you. F1 engineer Gordon Murray specifically stayed away from using forced induction, considering that it's a way of cheating and he also wanted an NA engine sound. You truly have to respect how F1 is truly a 'pure' race car. Apart from looking clumsy, Veyron uses quad turbo on an 8L v12, compared to 6.1L NA v12 Mclaren has.
