  • @ObsidianPainting

Wish me luck lucas, Tomorrow I'm going to the 25h anniversary of GW, my first ever Miniature Painting contest (Also first time paint a mini at all!)

  • Best painting video ever about painting mins thanks

  • YOU ARE THE KING, BRO! This helped me SOOO much (I'm a complete newbie)

  • lol did he just paint his window....

  • Gary, you mention "table top" quality on your video. Any chance you would do a video (or is it on your DVD) where you explain the different levels of quality and paint the same model to each quality level? I would like to understand and see the different techniques to achieve each level in a side-by-side comparison. And while you're at it, I'll take a large pizza with everything except....... ;-)

  • @gsw0882 watch this video, now go to my newest how to paint assault on black reach ork series with the warboss. That would be higher than this, i would consider that a little bit below display quality.

  • Do you use a diopter/magnifying lamp to paint under? Because - holy crap - these minis are small! lol

  • Very very nice tutorial.....with a nice sound :D

  • what happend to your thumb... lol

  • Hi!

Watched your WH40K AoBR videos (1-3) and they look great. I am totally new to WH40k...I am buys AoBR for my girlfriend's sons 11th birthday. Hoping he will take to it coz I have flirted with the idea of trying the game for some time and have just found out that the kids grandad, mum and uncle have been thinking the same. Also I have a 13 y/o son who hopefully will be interested so there is a of us which would be good. I'll be using these videos when we make a start. is there a part 4?

  • You got a rockin beard my friend.

  • where do u get badab black, is there a way to make it, the people at the arts and crafts store were like O.o what?

  • @Zlofpgu check out a hobby store for warhammer miniatures. If you want better prices check out places like canadianwargaming on the internet, theres a link int he description. In the first of this series theres a list of everything you'll need! cheers!

  • @ObsidianPainting thanks man

  • @ObsidianPainting do you have painting advice on the sintinel?

  • @Zlofpgu you can buy from Gamesworkshop for about 3.30 per bottle. Though it's basically just watered down undercoat black.

  • is orks and goblins a good army in warhammer fantasy?

  • hi, im going to the crafts store, also im really bad at following things, can u make a list of things i need to get in order to make these, like the glue, primer, paint, exe? Thanks alot

  • What camera do you use?

  • you could just use thick paint and dry brush it

  • insted of macright red would blood red work too? thank you

  • I watched this 3 or 4 times and just realized u didnt clean the mould lines. Is there a reason for that or did you just forget? Because I forget all the time.

  • Can you tell me what type of paints (not the spray paint) your using? I'm new to this. Are they non toxic? water colors? oil based? thanks.

  • @ 07:47 when you said you painted all skin areas you missed the hand with the gun in it.

  • The tune at the start/in the background. It sounds realllly familiar. Is it from Theme Hospital by any chance?

  • is white and skull white the same

  • thumbs up if you think he is gay

  • is there a part four???

  • Enjoyed the video. Thanks. What size brush/brushes do you recommend?

  • why do u use brown wash on the darkson but black on the other parts ???/

  • i like this kind of thing but i live in brazil and in brasil we dont have board games/RPGs and others games like this, we have games like monopólio, its fucking boring

  • who do make paint unthick

  • what happens if you make a mistake? can you just paint over in gray?

  • You should've put blood on his axe and some splatters on him

  • I probably would have replaced all the yellow with either red or purple

  • So, would you consider it better to do miniatures in a assembly line type pattern (i.e. base-coat all the orks skin then all the orks metal) or each model singularly?

  • @Glaiber100 personally i do assembly line. :)

  • could you use the citadel undercoat too?

  • @psnfreak128 you could, but for the price, the quality is sub par. 18$ a can? krylon is 4$ a can, and is much better

  • @ObsidianPainting Yes, i know, but i live in the Netherlands and Krylon doesn´t ship to Holland and the citadel is 5 euros a can at Games Workshop.

  • @ObsidianPainting I agree, it is much better. I personally believe that it also last longer if used correctly as you showed in the video.

  • @ObsidianPainting

Except for the fact that krylon has a larger particle footprint and can obscure the fine details.

  • @psnfreak128

Go with the citadel undercoat unless you understand how to "machinegun" prime. Which is, simply, to use short bursts instead of constantly holding the trigger down.

  • I think you'd be great at a childrens program Obsidian, good at teaching things...really encouraging and just a good voice to listen to.

  • First, I like the videos. They have inspired me to do an Ork army. How come you used a grey primer instead of black??? Is it just personal preference or quality??? On perk that I like is that it's inexpensive as the GW primer.

  • @DINO443jtg krylon comes in all sorts of colours! black, white grye, brown etc. I used grey for the purpose of the video! thanks!

  • Any chance you can do a video on painting deffkoptas and other ork stuff in this colour scheme? I'd like to shamelessly copy it then along with this. Love the extensive use of foundation paints too. Thanks for the tutorial

  • What did you use to wash the skin, black or brown?

  • @jodijustice

washing gives a quick shade to the model. I prefer washing to layering from the darkest colour up. Spray? as in primer? if you don't primer the model, the paint won't stick properly to the plastic(or metal) and will come off quite easily. Also makes for a better painting surface :)

  • Comment removed

  • ha, that looks easy *tries it*.....fuck

  • great stuff, I love how you use almost all foundation paints. I think I'll follow this paint scheme, but I'll stop before the wash (call me simple, but I like that flat colour look)

  • hah! i was always wondering whats the difference of the $17 spray, thank you bro! for showing me the way :D

  • can you paint then stick all the parts together ??

  • Never-ending guitar riff... so... annoying!

  • GUITAR RIFFS ARE THE BEST!!!!!

  • Awesome! Next step next step!

  • 1:39 Oh yeah shake it Bitch :D,thanks for upload

  • Can you please help me with an advice?

I have sometimes problems with priming my models.

I personally use the GW Citadel Primer Chaos Black in a spray can holding the model out of the window and sometimes the minis surface feels like sanded after priming. Its really rough and scratchy / sandy.

What could it be that i did wrong (temperature, air moisture)? This does not happen always but when it does it really suck.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

  • @Umbreon82

I had the same problem, turned out i was holding the primer to far away from the model and it was starting to dry before it hit the model which gives that sanding effect.

  • Nice vid :)

  • if you wouldl paint a whole army, would you prime them all at once or the same way as you explainedi in the video

  • @yorpwnd

I personally, do it the same way as in the video, but to each individual model, to make sure they get enough coverage underneath.

  • @ObsidianPainting Hey im a beginner into painting miniatures. Do u have to undoercoat black for the metallic color? how much time do you wait between each layer of each color? how much water do u put into each pool of paint? THank you very much great videos uve helped me a lot!!

  • @Blair981

Black if you want more contrrast to the metallics, i wait until the paint is dry, water varies, try to go for a 1:1 ratio paint : water.

  • i actually found that you dont really need water in your paints. just the paint works just fine for me

  • @unworldlypath

well, good luck with that :)

  • Recently got myself some ork boyz and this series is helping me begin painting to a good standard without having to invest in 4-5 different shades of each colour! Can't wait for the next part!

  • @TeamBrink

    thank you!

  • please show me more i'm ready to learn!

  • I really want to thank you. I got my first model of any kind done. And it turned out awesome thanks to what you showed.

  • @FlynnMTaggart

yay! good job! now go paint 1000 more!

  • @ObsidianPainting I'm getting there. At least I'm not painting the Orks. There are a lot of pieces to them. My friend is doing that. :)

  • @ObsidianPainting lol true that is true its alot of effort into each mini thats what makes miniwargaming fun

  • Oh. Also. Could I leave like little spots on the black parts to make 'em look dirty? Or do I have to add another layer of paint?

  • @FlynnMTaggart

Instead of leaving spots! what i would reccommend, is taking your black paint, adding some brown to it.(not a whole lot) and then stippling that on to the black parts(stippling is essentially.. stabbing.. poking...proding. no realy brush strokes involved!)

  • @ObsidianPainting Ooh. Cool. I didn't think of that. But what do I know, tommorow will be my first time painting ever. Thanks.

  • Another quick question. Would washing multiple times make areas darker?

  • @FlynnMTaggart

    yes!

  • The music fits really well. I just bought the Assault on Black Reach today and started taking apart and filing everything and making it look pretty before I start painting. And it'll also be the first time I ever painted models before. So I'm basically gonna set up my table and paint while I watch you. My question is do the same paint techniques work for like model ships and such as well?

  • @FlynnMTaggart

yes! paint techniques cross all genres!

  • I love watching vids like these. start out with a generic gray model by the end of em they're all spruced up real nice and such. cheers

  • @Baitgsad thanks!

  • If i buy the Assault on Black Reach & i want to start a space wolves army can i just use the space marines from this set to convert them to space wolves ?

  • @delta3792

    yes!

  • well,..jejeje....sincerally...how many miniatures fall of your window in this past years?...;)

  • I see in this video that you painted the orks with the Bad Moonz colour scheme. Would we be able to follow your video step by step but change the way we paint the yellows for that scheme for reds for the Evil Sunz colour scheme etc?

  • @TeamBrink

    WHY NOT!? :D

  • I like using krylon its cheap and even the black works good even though its not primer. The only time I go for full coverage with primer paint is if I want to use it as my base like for my tyranids. When I use the grey I follow your concept of just getting the primer on it :)

  • Great Video, Great Instructions!! Would be very easy to follow for any beginner.

Another tip along the same line as remembering not to rush and taking your time.. Don't try to paint when your tired even if you really want to finish. You just end up making mistakes and getting more frustrated. I learned that long ago when i used to paint Aircraft models. Your better off just walking away cleaning your brushes and pick it back up tomorrow.

    Val

  • Good Vid Gary. Man..talk about zoomed in, I could see the Hair in the Orcs Nose bro.

    Excellent Job.

  • Great tutorial, but I really can't get the music out of my head now!

  • Nice tutorial thanks a lot :)

  • Well it appears somehow, that 10 minutes of the video was cut off at the end. I'll have to upload that seperatly. I apologize.

  • The pace of this is was excellent and very easy to follow. I have two questions. First, I'm curious why you base coated with black for most of the metal parts when they were already primed. Why not just go straight to the greys and metallic paints? Second, If you're seeing alot of brush strokes what more than likely needs to be corrected? Is it probably the paint mixture?

  • @jimeronimo

Hey! First off thanks! glad to hear you enjoyed it.

So i do black, so the metals have a higher contrast. I'm not sure why, but if you paint metallics over black, they tend to shine more. Where as otherwise, they are still shiny, but not AS shiny.

for the strokes, i'd say add another drop of water!

  • @ObsidianPainting Thanks Gary. I Also think in this case it could be the paint I'm using... Was some cheapo stuff on my son's model car. Was really one of our father-son attempts together on a car. Trying to help him understand patience and layers is a big part of it.. LOL

  • Looking good so far mate. Good tutorial
