there was a missed opportunity here. santorum originally says that his personal and religious beliefs about what is moral and immoral will not necessarily dictate his public policy decisions as an elected official. piers should have stuck with this line of argument because we can examine santorum's voting record and his campaign promises to see if this is true. i think it's clear that santorum does want to change public policy based on his religious beliefs (ie: gay rights, women's rights)

While I strongly disagree with almost all of Santorum's views, I think he's not quite as bad as people make him out to be because he doesn't actually want government to regulate social issues (except for marriage, strangely).
So, I don't think he'd be a proponent of banning contraception and pornography, as people seem to suggest, based on his views that these things are damaging to society. Sure, he may think these crazy things, but that may not have an impact on what he does as president.

there was a missed opportunity here. santorum originally says that his personal and religious beliefs about what is moral and immoral will not necessarily dictate his public policy decisions as an elected official. piers should have stuck with this line of argument because we can examine santorum's voting record and his campaign promises to see if this is true. i think it's clear that santorum does want to change public policy based on his religious beliefs (ie: gay rights, women's rights)
