This is the 1-4-5 in F major. Honestly, I was not aware that you could play a minor scale over those dominant chords. Perhaps thats why they call them dominant....because you can play major or minor notes over the top?....not sure. Usually, the blues is played in minor....so I was surprised to see major chords. They are major 7 chords with a minor 7th....I guess thats why it works. Cool video, and thanks. Ill try it tomorrow.
chord progression is the movement of base chords through a song. for example you can be playing in C major in a song but C major will not always be the base chord of the song. so the accompaniment etc will not just be playing a C chord or arpegio, they will also play things like F Chords just so the music moves along better and keeps it interesting
in blues/jazz the 7th diminished chord its called simply the 7th chord because its widely used (specially as a dominant in chord families). so F A C Eb would be a f7th chord in jazz and a F7th diminished in classic. F A C E its called an f7th major chord
i dont know... ppl just dont want long names on things they use frecuently
so moontusk and the oter with the weird name are both right, one its talking blues language and the other classic :P
Technically you're right. But if you're a jazz musician and you see an F7 you would automatically assume it's an F dominant 7 unless it had a triangle next to the F or if it said Fmaj7. So, I guess you're right. The Eb is the minor 7th, and the E is the actually 7th. Damn technicalities =P
a minor 7th would mean the chord was minor. What you're refering to is a flat or diminished 7, since a single tone can't be major or minor. If the seventh were E natural, it would be an augmented 7 since Eb is in the key he's teaching in.
The interval above the root can be minor/major (in the case of a 7th) though: So goes the blues/jazz terminology, it's one of the reasons classical pianists have a hard time with jazz I guess... I know I did/do :p.

hey thanx for posting such a good instructional vid. i've really been in need for some inspiration for the song i'm working on. it's part of the one that i posted up before. it's not really finished so yeah. but great job! and you need, i mean really need to make some more vids.
I find your video to be very helpful and instructional...like the person before me, I want to bring it all together...Keep up the good work my friend....
I like to play the root of the chord higher than the rest of the notes, it's easier to stretch.

F A C Eb seems like a "real" f7 to me.

Eb isn't part of the seventh the E natural is thats a minor seventh

Yeah, I think it was helpful. I've got the chords and the scales down. Can you give any guidance to making it all come together and sound good?
