These weren't bad little cars kinda slow in a straight line, but great handling. The thing I noticed though was that it was pretty obvious why this car was able to keep up with the bullet...The entire cartridge was ejected from the gun without the powder going off!
Actually one of the best cars ever made. The 88-89 cornered like it was on rails and had one of the slickest driver orientated cockpits ever. You can thank GM for running Isuzu into the ground.. It was not "dumbed down" to the lowest common denominators such as the dime a dozen Preludes and Celicas.
@Kirlian196 Isuzu is still alive and well in Asia. They sell some nice pick-up trucks and SUV's here in Thailand and other Asian countries.
Idiot Americans who go from wanting tuna boats to wanting small high mileage cars and back again make the American market difficult. The rest of the World only dreams of $4 gas, few drivers in other countries want the same cars Americans do.
@rsattahip Unfortunately the quality of Isuzus has always been at the low end of the totem pole beneath other Japanese auto manufacturers.
They Isuzus imported in the USA (as Chevrolets, GEOs or Isuzus) did not have exactly a great track record. I should know-I worked on several and owned an Impulse (nicer version of the Geo Storm).
@arashinero first of all it was beacuse of a TURBO that they made 180hp...know ur facts....VWs are all motor and they both had around the same HP with out a turbo.
@Roccyscirocco you tell me to check my facts when i gave you some. you say that the impulse was a scirocco ripoff when guigiaro designed for isuzu first hahaha. so the impulse was turbo. so what? the same year model of the scirocco had at most 129hp. that's a bit of a difference. for the time, that's quite a bit of hp for a n/a engine, that's why i said it's not a bad car. however, 2010 gti with 2.0l turbo still only gets 200hp. vw engines haven't changed much in 30 years i guess lol
@xenon1458 it probably looks like one because the guy who designed the delorian also designed this car. also looks very similar to the old scirocco and a boat load of other cars that giogetto giugiaro designed during that time period.
This guy is amazing! I've actually tried this experiment with my Isuzu Impulse; several times. I could never seem to beat the bullet I shot in a race. Heck, he even drove through cones, making his own obstacle cour.. Ooooooh! Waaaait a minute.. this wasn't actually real was it? Wow, I feel like such a fool now....
Tears slide down her cheek and as she kicks herself mentally, WHY did I GIVE UP MY 89 IMPLUSE. Damn fool I sold it too totalled it two days after he bought it from me. I miss my ol girl. She was so pretty... Sobs.
hm, i did not know that. And i love how people who probably had these cars thumbs downed me twice. I wonder if they realize that this car is almost identical... ha, im glad you enjoyed my comment
the scirocco is remembered by more people anyway. it it werent for some wierd olf african guy i never would have looked up this video of the wannabe rocco. plus the sciroccos were here years before this. i wouldnt be surprised if it was a rejected design from the mk2 scirocco which is sexier anyway lol
@Roccyscirocco You're totally right. Except for your taste. I'd drive an Impulse, especially the turbo, to a Scirocco any day. The difference? The Impulse has the right formula. Front engined, rear wheel drive. I don't see that mimicking VW at all.. For what it was, the Impulse is totally a budget/entry level sportscar, whereas a Scirocco could never be. Front wheel drive sportscar. Oxymoron.. Not to say that the Scirocco is bad, RWD is just plain better...
@travass087 lol it needs a turbo....nuff said...and as far as rwd being better...i know plenty of FWD cars that will obliterate your favorite rwd cars on a race track :). its all a matter of driver and class of car at that point. the 16v scirocco put all your favorite cars in their place with the road testing in the 80's rwd and all. and didnt need a turbo to do it
@Roccyscirocco haha, somehow i erased my comment from this post of yours. basically i said you need to check your facts before you post. i put that the designer giorgetto gugiaro designed the isuzu 117 long before he ever did anything for vw. as for looking alike, most of his designs looked exactly the same from that time period. the scirocco was a great car, but the japanese version of the impulse was pulling 180hp!! that's awesome for the time
Impulse JR ftw! I'm on my 4th one right now. Whatever downfalls these have, doesn't matter... they're just plain fun. And as a matter of personal style, I think they're boss looking. :D
My family had one of these. Somehow we got a lemon because it was always leaving my Uncles and Aunts stranded, but it was quick. My Aunt and Uncle said that some men were circulating the car and looking to rob it, my Uncle put it in gear and peeled off!! Unfortunately not long after it was stolen. But then recovered. :)
haha, your post makes me laugh. you must have never seen any of the joe isuzu commercials. it's supposed to be unbelieveable and stupid. i'm sure they left it in the brass as a joke.
I really don't think so. I think that the bullet without the brass would have not looked enough like a bullet to the general public. Meh, what are you going to do.
Is the fact the bullet still had the casing on it the ONLY thing you found ridiculous about this commercial? Really? Watch it again and see if you don't notice a few other things that got "past the ad-execs". (I'll give you hint to get you started on just one of 'em.... guess around 900 mph...)
The Impulse Turbo was a fast ride, but it was hell to work on.
As you may know Isuzu is pulling its light duty vehicles out of the USA and will continue with the truck division, I guess the market place is just to competitive, Isuzu's not alone other car lines are only hanging on by a thread, Shame! Isuzu overbuilt everything
100-150K before front brakes wore-out, I worked in a Jeep-Isuzu dealership, funny how over half the Jeep Techs drove Isuzu's
isuzu still makes semis and buses in japan. it is true that they are mainly focusing on engines and other components for other cars. we can thank gm for this!
I hate that the bullet he "fired" is still in the casing...as it's in flight.

ahmed20055,
"are you sayin' that isuzu's are really high quality?"
Well, depends on what you have, 1997 and earlier vehicles were best, the biggest problems were with GM parts,
The 2.2L GM HEK motor(98-03?) is a problem,
Vehicles from 02'& Up with GM 4L30-E A/T have many Trans failures, 98'-01' have "less"
Best Models 88-91' Trooper or PU(4 cyl better)
and the 93-97' Rodeo or 92-97' Trooper
Had an 82' I-Mark diesel customer with
440,000 miles no Engine or Trans work
