actually, i have many proficient guitar students who started on guitar hero / rock band, made it through all the levels and decided to try the real thing. these games are the main reason why there's a renewed interest in guitar-based music with many young people.
are there a few who take the path you say? sure. I dont buy the fact that interest in guitar based music ever declined. Maybe in urban markets where the talentless rap music proliferated. Just saying.

rock band is for losers. wanna play a guitar? spend the time to play on a real one, not some stupid button pushing guitar shaped joystick..:D
